Smooch is a well loved almost 5 year old mastiff. She thinks she’s tiny like her chihuahua sister. She just started fighting with the chi for dominance. I know that if she wanted to hurt the chi she would, but that hasn’t happened. The issue is that my 82 year old mother just moved into the house with us due to health reasons and I’m so worried that Smooch is going to knock her over.
We’ve had our English Mastiff for 12 years.
She was the runt. Passed over from her original litter, then passed over again when the next litter got adopted before her. Somehow, we ended up with the dog nobody picked first, and she became everything to us.
She’s dealt with thyroid issues most of her life. Medicated since she was 3. Never slowed her down from being part of everything though. Camping trips. Friday night pizza. Kicking a soccer ball around with our son, her “little boy.” She showed up for all of it. For our family as a whole, and for each of us individually, in whatever way we needed.
Tomorrow, we’re giving her a dignified passing. It’s going to be the hardest thing we’ve ever done as a family. But I don’t regret it. She’s lived an incredible life and gave us more than we could ever give her.
If you’ve got a dog, go sit with them a little longer tonight. Take the extra walk. Let them be part of whatever you’re doing, even if it’s nothing.
Dogs are only a part of our lives, but to them, we’re everything and that time goes faster than you think.
We’ll miss you, Zella. Thank you.
My family is looking for a reputable Boerboel resuce to rehome our 3 year old intact male. He is food aggressive and has environmental allergies.
The other day, we had to make the difficult decision to put down our mastiff.
Honestly, I was someone that really wasn’t fond of dogs in general due to having dogs in my life that barked excessively and it would interfere with my sleep throughout childhood, on top of other reasons...
That is until my family brought along a mastiff who I grew extremely fond of. She was a docile, giant teddy bear that just wanted to cuddle and lick every chance she got. She barked, of course. But she was not excessive.
She was a playful, gentle giant until the end. She came in during such a difficult time for my family and was a bright spot. We put down our mastiff at 9. It feels so short and unfair. She still had such a friendly and playful mind but her body and joints couldn’t keep up. I’ll miss you forever buddy.
Medically complicated but we're managing to have a good time anyway. The whole goal is to make sure he doesn't know he's aick and we seem to be managing that really well.
He's pretty hefty now, but he's still just a little guy in his heart and spirit lol
This is my adorable Daisy. She's a 6 months old Great Dane, Mastiff mix. Isn't she beautiful?!?!
These dogs man 😂 she was a normal dog 10 mins ago and now she's doing what we call "bed whale". She just ... Flips and jumps and rolls and pounces all across our bed, rapidly. Like zoomies, but on a king sized bed. She's begging me to push her here so she can bed whale more. 🥴 It's 10pm
Hello,
From the UK.
I will be getting a bullmastiff in the future, and when looking for puppies, the parent dogs are always small? For a bullmastiff...
Every bullmastiff I see in videos etc are lovely big dogs, but all the ones available for purchase the parents are larger "medium" dogs. As big as my now passed American bulldog. What's going on?
They largely are KC registered so I can't figure out what's going on.
My mastiff/pitbull mix has a lot of mouth issues. Of particular concern to me is this. It comes and goes. I have the vet keeping a close eye on his mouth but they aren’t sure about this issue since it comes and goes. Anyone have suggestions?
