VPN downloads are exploding because of these new age verification laws

Not gonna lie this whole thing finally pushed me into using a VPN daily. I was just trying to browse normally a few nights ago and suddenly sites started asking for ID verification and facial scans like bro what 😭 no way I’m uploading my personal info just to access random websites. Ended up downloading a VPN after seeing everyone talk about it and apparently downloads are going crazy right now because a lot of people are doing the same thing after the new UK and EU rules started rolling out. What’s wild is governments are now calling VPNs a loophole and talking about cracking down on them too. Kinda feels like the harder they push this stuff the more regular people start using VPNs out of spite lol

False positive or malware?

Hi. As you can see in the picture I got a Trojan and it was removed. I did multiple offline windows scans and found nothing and I downloaded malwarebytes and did several deep and custom scans and found nothing related to a Trojan.

I’m thinking it’s a false positive because I have not noticed any suspicious activity since then but I’m unsure and would like some opinions on whether im safe or not.

A guy made me screenshare and guided me to this download which he meant I needed to play faceit tournaments. I got to the download from the faceit client tho which make me think im safe but I don’t remember if I left the client.

What im looking for is basically peace on mid, that this was a false positive and I can calm down.

Sorry for bad English and grammar.

Malaria Bytes not working

Hello all, I have been playing a few online games via steam on my PC recently and wanted to run my yearly security check. However, when I go to the malwarebytes website, I am blocked from using it on any wifi network I join.

Any troubleshooting tips to help me out here?

Svchost making requests to riskware website? Or false positive?

https://preview.redd.it/2tyz98lo6n0h1.png?width=1446&format=png&auto=webp&s=aa003afb1c7c0f280af0400484e82c98de07c348

Woke up to this detection notice (total of 6 outbound requests to this IP) and have been endlessly worried since.

I saw other posts with similar IP addresses being indicated as false positives:

But also saw this post (that's older than the above 2) where most have said this is spyware:

VirusTotal shows only one malicious flag and indicates that this IP is also registered by Edgevana:

https://preview.redd.it/5xyx9o648n0h1.png?width=3683&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3a9a8f6d14f0aeb82df85bb3717b475bec200c1

I did see some WindowsUpdateClient logs at around the same time so I am not sure if it does have to do with the Windows Updates as others have suggested.

Any advice or input would be much appreciated 🙏

Idk if this is malware or not HELP

I’ve had serious problems with malware infecting my computer and finally was able to get malware bytes to download after sending it through a email to my computer. Now I’m getting a notification that says it’s blocking a potentially dangerous website. I had a problem where I downloaded a fake link to a FACEIT clan for Csgo a few weeks ago and have been facing problems with checking for windows updates on my computer, games not launching and unable to load websites on my computer. Please let me know if I need to I can fix this myself or should just take it to a computer shop.

Website not working.

I cannot open the website to download it, I know I have one of those redirect search viruses, it's very annoying, malwarebytes has worked in the past, but for whatever reason I uninstalled it a while ago (dunno why). I just tried to download it again but it ain't working. It immediately goes to 'Ip not found' when I open it.

Want to download the old Slenderman must die games from 2013-2015, but keeps giving me windows protection screen, and virustotal always flags either 2 or 3 trojans, malware or adware. Am i safe to proceed?

Yeah, title is very self explanatory, Im downloading it from the official Poison games page (Developer of the game) on Gamejolt. Yet Virus total always flags trojans and adware.

Im pretty sure its false postitives, the scanner that always scans and finds trojans is Jiangming and two others i don't recognize.

I also searched and said that if official and big scanners such as Malware bytes, Microsoft and others say nothing is off. Then its most indefinitely fine.

Still a bit suspicious over the windows protection screen, is there someone who likes indie games that can help me?

I ran a deep scan on my Dell ultra 7 laptop, the fan was at max speed and it was scanning fine for about 4 hours, I left the room, when I came back the screen was black and it wouldn't turn on, I waited four more hours, then I hard reset it with the power button. When it came back up it was in BitLocker recovery, then I entered the BitLocker and it said my computer couldn't be repaired, I've tried all the options, I think malwarebytes outright just destroyed my laptop entirely, I wasn't doing anything else except running a scan, what are the chances they'll pay for the damages?

Trojan detected by Windows Security

Threat quarantined
05-05-2026 10:11
Detected: Trojan:Win32/Cerdigent.A!dha
Status: Quarantined

Message:
Quarantined files are in a restricted area where they can't harm your device. They will be removed automatically.

Date: 05-05-2026 10:11

Affected items:

  1. rootcert: 0563B8630D62D75ABBC8AB1E4BDFB5A899B24D43
  2. rootcert: DDFB16CD4931C973A2037D3FC83A4D7D775D05E4

Windows Security today detected this. I'm very surprised because I'm always careful with my browsing habits. I never browse without 'ublock origin', and I have hardened it.

I never download random files from the internet on my laptop. I never torrent. I never install anything from outside Windows Store (except Firefox).

So I can't understand where this thing came from.

I performed a full scan after this and according to windows Security, no new threats were detected. I followed that with deep scan, with Malwarebytes. Again no threat found.

Do I need to worry? And what else do I have to do?

Hey, I could use some help figuring out what happened on my PC.

I downloaded a cracked game called Gamble With Your Friends from this site: https://online-fix.me/games/adventures/18079-gamble-with-your-friends-online. html
(i put a space before html to prevent accidental click)

I extracted the archive with WinRAR and ran the game. A few error popups showed up, then Windows Defender threw this alert:

https://preview.redd.it/kz79u2hk5ezg1.png?width=355&format=png&auto=webp&s=d1409cc3bca744cade021d1bc51da550c6077d93

About 5 seconds later, the alert just disappeared from the protection history on its own. I didn't have time to quarantine it or click anything, it was gone before I could react. When I click Run on the game again, nothing happens, no alert. But if I uninstall the game and reinstall it from the archive, then run it for the first time again, the same alert comes back, stays for 5 seconds, and disappears the same way.

That's the part that's bugging me, the alert vanishing on its own without me being able to do anything with it. Is that a normal thing or does it mean something specific?

I'm on Windows 11 fully up to date, with Windows Defender as my only AV.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On the 22nd of April.

I stupidly downloaded "archive", extracted it, and ran the "instaler". My discord was hacked and spammed Mr. Beast crypto messages. Following that I reformatted my PC completely with no files saved or transeferred. Reinstalled a clean installation from a clean device on a USB stick that wasn't used in the infected PC but was reformatted anyways. My discord, emails, and steam passwords were reset and 2FA was turned on for all if there weren't already.

Today, May 2.

I saw that my entire steam friends list was wiped. I haven't downloaded anything that wasn't from a trusted website (Discord official, Steam, microsoft). My windows defender offline scan didn't find anything nor did my malwarebytes but malwarebytes occasionally pops up with notification shown above.

I realize I may not have been on top of changing every password and turning on 2FA and signing out of all of instances but I'm not sure if my computer is still infected or if I'm possibly overracting.

I can’t send a picture but I’ll describe the exact words here.

I’m a very paranoid person with the rise of that “Renpy” and mrbeast one’s going around I check my system often, I reset my pc after it slowed down (I leave it on for extended periods of time.) and when it booted up I saw 3 cmds, normally stuff like that dors happen but I felt off so I took out my ethernet, ran a windows defender full scan, nothing. Ran a full scan from malwarebytes and got this:

Malware.AI.49713… File, in Microsoft androidndk-R2C3 toolchains llvm prebuilt windowsx86-64 bin it looks to be called LLDB-ARGDUMPER.EXE

Is this a false positive or something I should be concerned with? Nothing else was found. I know of it is a virus I haven’t ran anything in that folder nor can I recall placing it there myself, this is the first time it’s ever come up. Sorry just panicked and paranoid

Edit: please ignore any typos I’m tired and typing on my phone, as I still have my pc unconnected to internet for reasons that I believe make sense.

I need to know if this happened only to me or if it's common.

Setup: Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM, RTX 3060 Ti — a machine that runs everything smoothly, heavy games, editing, dev work, no stutter at all.

I installed Malwarebytes 5.5.5.253 yesterday to do a quick scan and the PC simply STOPPED. CPU pinned at 100%, mouse stuttering, Start menu wouldn't open, any screenshot took 5 minutes to render. I'd reboot and it would come back already frozen, because the service starts with Windows.

I know about the "don't run two antiviruses together" thing (I read that mixing it with Windows Defender causes conflicts), and that's fair — but I never imagined that the simple act of INSTALLING it would bring down a machine that handles AAA games without breaking a sweat

The most surreal part: I spent a full day trying to uninstall and couldn't. Their self-protection (Chameleon) blocks even Task Manager from killing the process. Control Panel hangs forever on "Please wait for current uninstall to finish". Their own uninstaller wouldn't open. I only managed to get rid of it after asking Claude Code to write a heavy custom script that force-stopped the services, disabled auto-start, killed every Malwarebytes process, disabled all scheduled tasks, and only then could fire mb5uns.exe to actually uninstall it.

Honest question: is this a common experience with Malwarebytes 5.x? Did I screw up some configuration? Or is the app really in this state right now? Worst experience I've ever had with any app in my life.

Have a question just got our grandson a new computer to replace an old one. Had Malwarebytes installed on the old one, and he deactivated that computer before setting up the new one. Got the new one up and running, downloaded and installed. Went to activate on the new one and got a message exceeded device limit or something. Used the same keys as his old one.
