Comic con lightsaber teacher: what to teach kids?

Hello! I was asked by a friend who’s in charge of planning 501st events at comic con in may, if I could be in charge of the lightsaber teaching class at the convention. I cosplay as Obi wan and Ben Kenobi and often do shows with showing accurate saber forms and training with looking flowing in my choreography.

In my spare time, I’ve only “taught” my younger brother and cousins how to strike, block, flourish and pose with lightsabers. I also practiced martial arts like kendo, bujinkan and HEMA (German longsword) and still remember so e of the basics in stances and dueling.

But I’ve never “officially” been a teacher or taught newcomers like this. I do take big respect for teaching, not it being perfect but being practical and most of all: FUN.

Any tips on what I could teach a group of 6-15 young padawans about? I don’t want to go to advanced but would like to include something they could try to do that advanced, like an Obi wan flourish.

All thoughts and opinions are welcome (I’ll include it as in my presentation as “teachings from other Jedi masters and Sith Lords”)

CQC Light Saber

Practicing CQC with the Saber with quick blocks and strikes, but ofcourse easier to imagine than actually being in a closed space area. Definitely worked up a sweat! 🤘🤘
