Chasing the "Old School" High: Do landraces and skunk #1, etc. still hit like they did in the 70s/80s?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been a silent reader of this sub for quite a while now and I love the knowledge being shared here.

To give you some context: I grew up with cannabis in the late 90s with classics like White Widow, K2, Purple Haze, and Bubble Gum. Today, I’m growing legally in Germany, but I find myself increasingly disconnected from modern "hype" strains. They just don't seem to have the soul or the specific buzz I remember.

I’m planning to go back to the roots and grow some legendary genetics like Skunk #1 and various Landrace strains.

My question to the older generation / OGs:
If I grow these legendary seeds today, will the effect truly be the same as what people experienced in the 70s and 80s? I often hear people talk about a certain "magic" or a more complex, well-rounded high that seems to have been lost in modern breeding.

Have any of you successfully "revisited" the past this way? Does the terroir and modern growing equipment change the result, or is that old-school feeling still locked inside those seeds?

Looking forward to your insights!

Wanted to show my big and beautiful Panama x Oldtimers Haze by Ace Seeds.

The Panama x Bangi Haze that stood beside her is already harvested and it came out perfect for me. Not too much thc, and a very clean, happy, moderate, stimulating high. The smell on the Pangi is a mix of Panama Incense, a little bit of honey sweetness, musk from the Bangi and lastly reminds a bit of green apple sometimes.

The Panama x Oldtimer on the other hand smells like pure metal! Bloodlike almost. Can‘t wait to finish her up and try smoking!!! It was the plant with the most vigour I have ever grown. It grew double the pace that my other plants were growing. Also was fast in rooting cuts. And even the cuts have so much vigour…

Panama Haze on Harvest Day

Harvested on Day 99F. Although I saw her everyday the size and weight of those buds surprised while I cut her. After having a plant for that long, it is even harder for me to harvest. But if she smokes good, I have some cuts of her saved :)

Update Day 52F - ACE Honduras, ACE Ethiopian & Pura Seeds Mexicoatl

Update from previous posts.

Stretch is finally over since 1 or 2 weeks now. One Honduras and one Ethiopian were pushing the limits of my tent, reaching 160cm and 155cm.

The other 2 Ethiopians and 1 Honduras stopped earlier and between 120cm to 135cm, but are a little more advanced regarding the amount of flowers.

The Mexicoatl will be finished first, with about 3 weeks to go according to the breeder. Both Honduras and Ethiopian should be around halftime, currently being in week 8 of flower.

Run into some deficiencies for all plants and light stress for the taller plants, but hopefully everything is balanced out now.

Not a perfect run by any means, but I am quite happy nevertheless. It’s still a learning experience for me, especially with pure Sativas and indoors

Unknown landrace in South Africa

have been strain hunting African landraces for years it is found in a small rural area 18 miles (30km) from the Lesotho border just outside a small town called Himville. It’s to low for Lesotho and to high for Kwazulu, and they don’t even look the same as those two. but have no idea what it is. Anyone familiar with the area know anything about landraces from that area?

Dashkinali flower day 69

This is almost at 10 weeks of flowering, but it really didn't take off with many pistils until like the fourth week or so.

The buds are still very airy, and I am predominantly growing for seeds.

Is harvesting in four weeks reasonable, or do I need to just let the plant tell me? I'm not a super experienced grower anyway, and this is my first landrace; I have done a lot of reading, but I know that can only help me so much.

I'm hoping to cut back on the amount of lights running in my room for preparation for the hot and humid summers in my area.

It's nice in the winter, but once it started being warm not so much; my power bill is like double what it was this time last year.

Does anyone know if you can make good rso oil from feral hemp plants?

I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience making rso oil from feral hemp plants?I know where there are some big patches of feral hemp and thought it would be a good idea to try to make a concentrate like rso oil out of them to increase the potency of it.Its free to for me to pick as much as I want to.All the feral hemp plants seem to have a different taste and smell to each individual plant. Some of the plants have thicker wider leaves and some have skiny leaves with definitely different terpene profiles depending on which plants you pick. Some plants are smaller plants that branch out into a big bush ,while others plants right next to it are growing tall with very little branching. Most of the hemp in the USA that was planted in the 1940s is Chinese fibre hemp which has the smallest thinest buds with a horrible taste and it doesn't get you high at all. This hemp I plan on using is feral hemp that has been growing feral since the 1800's so its definitely a different type of hemp, then the common type of Chinese hemp that grows throughout most of the USA.I think it has a much more diverse make up of genes in it,which makes all the hemp plants look a little different from each other. Most patches of feral hemp originally derived from Chinese hemp tend to all look the same so this hemp I will be working with, will be a unique type of hemp that is not the common Chinese fibre hemp.I think the hemp I would be using was hemp that became feral out of cultivated plants that were grown in the 19th century or earlier.

Ive heard you can put the colas in a big pot with high proof alcohol in it and heat it up gently at a low temperture to evaporate out the alcohol out of it to make the RSO oil.I was wondering if this method is worth trying? If you have any other suggestions as an easy way to make it,please comment on here how you think is the best way to make it.

I plan on updating on here, how good or bad the rso oil turns out in the future.

Did I get a rare landrace from a hemp brand? (ik it seems dumb please just read)

I got a bag of kona gold from a hemp brand (i wont list the name incase of sourcing rules) and the aroma and flavor most people report is sweet, honey, and tropical fruit. Mines straight up chili pepper, ancient herbs (like a different type of rosemary/thyme mix), sticky hash, and a small hint of floral that really shouldn't be in this mix. The taste is also similar, i smoke it and it tastes like im smoking a chili pepper with hash in it, and mid way through i have to stop because its genuinely spicy. After being smoked it leaves that chili hash smell lingering in the air. The effects start off as a really strong sativa, like I did a lot of caffeine. I feel locked in but extremely calm, absolutely no anxiety and then after 2-3 hours, specifically 2-3 hours, i get super sedated. I believe i might have found the breeder, Hyp3rids kona gold IBL, specifically a mix of ph#1 and ph#3

Scythian on the Shelf

Kazakhstan by LRB; 14 Weeks

A little lanky, but she makes a nice houseplant. Though just like a real Scythian, she longs for the outdoors.
