Tie rod rubbing against sway bar links

Tie rod connection to drag link is rubbing against the underside of the drag link when turning right. This is causing both abrasion to the parts and a limit to the turn radius.

Recently replaced track bar. I want to replace both the tie rod and drag link, but I don’t want to buy thicker parts and have even worse issues.

As far as I am aware, the control arms (upper and lower) are stock, and I have a suspicion that the axle is slightly more rearward than it should be. But that wouldn’t fix this particular issue as far as I am aware.

I’m hoping the issue is sagging due to deteriorated tie rod/drag link causing rubbing. But really, my opinion is worth zilch; what do yall think?

ZJ 5.2 1996 No start (tach not moving)

Hey all!

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 v8. About two years, it completely died on me while driving (was idling at a traffic light, then it stalled). Since then, I haven’t managed to get it started. The engine turns over, but the tach is not moving. I initially thought it was the CPS, but I’ve now replaced it with 3 different ones (am in Europe, so hard to find original parts). At this point, I’m inclined to rule out the CPS itself (even if I still don’t have a mopar). I’ve also tried to wire battery negative directly to the blue/black wire for the CPS to rule out bad ground (makes no difference). I’ve also replaced the PCM, which made no difference.

Other things I’ve checked:
* Fuses
* Relays (swapped the horn relay with the ASD)
* The fuel pump runs for a few seconds (I can hear it, and I can smell the gasoline)
* Tried start spray

At this point, I’m running out of ideas. I’ve tried to measure the signal and reference wires (black/white and orange or red) but I’m not really sure which is which. At least one of them gives constant 5v. Other things I’m thinking:
* Other sensors (MAP, TPS etc) shorting the circuit?
* Camshaft position sensor?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! I’m getting quite frustrated with this car.

Coil springs

Those that are lifted, what coil springs do you have? I have rough country 4 inch springs and they are way too bouncy.

New to me '98 ZJ

She's a little rough in some spots but I've always wanted to get another older Grand Cherokee after I had to relinquish my Liberty to my mom mid winter (her Durango went out, and I drove Dad's Tacoma instead).

4x4, 4.0L inline 6 with 163k miles, and 2" lift with barely any rust at 2500? Shoot I was about to go look at an '02 with similar miles but some beginnings of rust at 3,900.

She needs some tlc, first thing that I'm gonna address is the headlights and AC, and then addressing the light wandering second (I personally don't think it's bad, I mean hell the Liberty had far worse plus steering wheel trying to take my legs out). My guess is that it's just an overall parts swap that needs to be done, previous owner goes down to Arizona every couple of years and rock crawls with it hence the 2" lift kit.

If anyone has some good headlight suggestions and or steering mods please let me know! :D

Very excited to own this and if all else fails then I guess I refire up my grandma's '96 v8, however I'd have to fight my cousins for that lol.

Rear Axle Sound

Hello! I am a new owner of a Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ from 1997 Limited

Since I bought the car, the rear axle diff makes a big time sound when I take turns at different speeds, but the more I turn the wheel, the more sounds it makes.

I have opened the diff and I found out there was a red fluid in it. I suppose it was transmission fluid as it was red, while it should have been yellow.

It seems stucked, the inner bolt seemed to be a little bit loose.

I have put the correct oil in it, i think it s an open diff, although I have received an opinion that it has LSD while I spin the wheels they go the same direction.

I want to run more with the car to see if something gets unstucked.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated ✌🏻

What do we think of a “Scat Pack ZJ?”

My 5.2 just absolutely blew up (still looking for the reason) and I think I’ve absolutely lost my mind. There’s a scat pack motor from a wrecked challenger in my area for super cheap. Should I swap it in and slap on the badges while I’m at it?

Loses gear / shifting issues

THROWS NO CODES

EDIT: After replacing fluid and filter, it shifts fine. Tons of metal shavings inside the trans pan tho :/

Something is definitely falling apart in there. I likely just band aided it.

Thanks for trying to help

—-

it does not go into gear without some serious playing with it.

Anything into 3rd gear+

I had to run it up to 4500+ rpm, drop it down to 3500, and it would stay in gear for a little while (1-2 miles max) Then slip out of gear and sky rocket RPMS..

I had to hold it around 3.2k rpm’s and it would maybe hold for a little. But would ultimately slip back out of gear.

throw itself into neutral it felt like. to protect itself I’d assume.(definitely was not getting any gears, I could drop down to 2,000 rpm up to 5,000.. and nothing)

did the 4.5k->3.5k rpm’s throw itself back into it.

I then had to repeat the process a million times, take back highways etc. and that’s delicate af as I already said (keeping at 3.2k MAYBE worked)

—-

Or anything under 35 mph it’d do just fine.

——

I noticed if I just stick the jeep in second gear with shifter, it does that no problem. So I limped it home with flashers on.

——

I can do pretty much all work to a car.. besides insides the trans I’m totally ignorant.

I plan to change the trans fluid/filter today, check for metal shavings or anything obviously wrong. // it’s just all I know how to do to a trans 😭

what could be the cause of these symptoms? This all started in the 150 miles I drive TODAY.

no issues literally yesterday.

I got work in 3 days and pretty much all the tools to get this done. PUH LEASE jeep community. Give ideas / input.

Let’s get me rolling again

Thanks
