New to me ‘87 RG550

Found a first year for a killer price, none of the typical nut or pocket cracks. No idea what pickups are in it (some kind of Dimarzio) and not tempted to try to find out for fear of messing anything up. Everything else is original and it sounds great so I’m not worried. Anyone else have an 87? Recommend any mods?

Ibanez JEM 777 LNG #656

Hi,

I just picked up this JEM 777 LNG #656 last week in Sweden.
Really happy about it even though it was quite expensive... I have a 1988 JEM 77 Floral that plays good but this guitar plays great and it is in very good condition. One little line where the neck meets the body. Signature is on the plate and in good condition too. I think the previous owner(s) always had it off and so do I. In fact I don’t think they played this guitar much at all.

I emailed the greenjem.com but never got a reply. Is that site still active? They are trying to find all original LNGs out there.

Is this a real Ibanez?

Seller is listing this item as an Ibanez RGDMS8 but my concern was that the switches and frets do not match any images i can find online.

Bought 2001 Ibanez rg570, after 2 years i checked the serial number...

Few years ago, I was a total gear noob. I just wanted a cool-looking guitar and found a listing for a "2001 Ibanez RG570" for $500.

I liked the color, I knew the brand, and the price felt right for a 20-year-old guitar. I bought it, played it casually, and never thought twice about it.

After 2 years of playing, out of boredom, I decided to randomly feed the serial number to google's Gemini model and ask a few questions. The AI tells me: "This serial doesn't match a 2001 model. This is a 1991 Golden Era build from the FujiGen factory.". I called it complete bullsh*t hallucination, but then i checked manually, and GuitarDater reported it as 1991.

After quick check on marketplaces, i found out real resale value - around 1400 usd.

Basically, I accidentally bought a way better guitar than I thought I did, and it plays perfectly to this day.

guitar help

So I really like the P1 Petrucci guitar, but it costs like 10 grand. I wanna know if there's any modern alternative with the same looking white binding neck and HH pickup configuration

TOD10N - Catastrophic Failure

Another TOD10N has fallen - This one lasted 3 years - Production date was 01/02/23.

I hadn't restrung it since I owned it (Bad I know) but i just prolonged the job until the intonation problems became too much. But I gave the guitar a full clean down, oiled the fret board and even went out and got the Tim Henson official strings...

Only for the guitar to last 3-4 days before it spontaneously ripped itself apart.

I personally think the stress of new strings was too much for the guitar and the glue to handle - which is scary to think that if you change your strings... you risk the life of your guitar.

What really is upsetting, is i was playing in a lot of dropped open tunings - so i didn't even reach "Standard" levels of tension for the first few days - and just allowed the strings to naturally stretch and settle. Worth noting - I owned a nylon "no named" acoustic for 20 years and that thing must have been 15+ years old when i got it - has never skipped a beat, made from thinner wood than this too - if you can believe it. So this bridge explosion is just wild to me for a brand new guitar.

Thomann the company I bought it from, refuse to repair and have been told the manufacturer wont repair it due to "customs" - So even though the guitar is probably... 15 days outside of their extended 3 year warranty. I'm left with no support and no guitar.

I'm genuinely sat here trying to consider what to do...

Is this even worth repairing?
If i do, Will it just spontaneously fail again next time i change strings or look at it funny?
and even worse the least of all I'm considering, buying a brand new one...

Of all the guitars I've ever bought, this was the first one brand new, just for me...

So to say Im gutted, is an understatement.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations?

NOTES:
https://www.reddit.com/r/polyphia/comments/11wz2dq/tod10n_came_and_went_i_guess/?sort=new

Other threads show the glue failure - worth pointing out how mine is different so a big warning to other owners out there...

EDIT: someone noticed the entire underside of the bridge was painted then the glue was attached... Its not wonder it failed really...

I’m actually stunned. The guy selling this put up the worst photos I’ve ever seen on his ad. I honestly didn’t even know what model it was. His ad said “Guitar and stand. Best offer.” THAT’S IT! I said hey would you take $100 If it’s still available? He replied why in fact it is and he will take $100! I thought for sure the entire drive I was absolutely falling victim to a scam. There’s no way right? Maybe the guitar sucks or doesn’t work and then maybe it could be real. No man. 100% real. It all works and it plays and it’s gonna be so sick.
He’s cleaning out his garage AND he’s thinking of donating a ton of other guitars to a local school. we’ll see if he’s down to donate to my small studio. I have a few really motivated kids who could take off with a better guitar. Some of the instruments they bring in are just miserable.

I’m about to clean this up. As you can see in the photos there is quite the dust layer on here and I got it for my sister. She’s gonna be stoked.

For those curious this is an Ibanez Prestige RG657PB-AGF. The stand is an actual bomb casing. Unsure how it was sourced but I wasn’t about to start asking questions.

NGD '24 RG8570

Sorta NGD, I have it since a couple of weeks. I was looking for a Prestige, as J Custom was a bit over budget. Got a sweet deal on Reverb, even with import from Japan (I really like this Japan-ezclusive color). I don't regret, this is a very nice guitar, I really enjoy the versatility of the Dimarzio HSH config.

A lesser seen gem, 1996 J Custom RG1708

The flame and top colour (amber) looks different on this in every photo I take of it.
It has a DiMarzio SFP/Steve’s Special in the bridge, Blue Velvet in the middle and an Air Norton in the neck. Slightly thicker than Wizard neck which is comfortable and fast. It also has the recessed Dunlop Strap Locks which are 🤌🏻

Sugi Custom Shop AZ IVS3AZ

Haven't seen this mentioned on here yet - but this new Visions AZ will be at the guitar show in Italy next weekend, along with 2 other new Visions RGs. Not clear from the translated posts if these are one-offs or precursors to new Visions models that will be produced, but I have been waiting for a J Custom AZ model, so this one really tickles my fancy. Will be looking out for this one to go on sale at some point after the show. I want it just to tell people I have a guitar with a cocobolo fretboard.

Doing my normal rounds of neurotic guitar refreshing, reverb, guitar center online, market place etc., I saw it.

I saw an RGDR3127S, for $1599 on Guitar Center online. You might be thinking so what? That's not a crazy deal for a 3127S from 2020, what's the big deal?

My friends... it's the purple neon flat 3127s from Axe Palace. A special run with a unique color, birds eye maple fretboard with no inlays, reverse headstock and stainless steel frets. A 1 of 15 limited run!

Guitar Center didn't know it was a limited edition custom run and priced it like a normal used 3127s production. I can't believe it. I never thought I'd score one because they're so insanely rare and always at least $2400+ when they pop up. The only one on reverb currently is listed for $3500.

Absolutely insane win, I'm still shocked. I'll follow up with pics once I get it. Just wild, feeling so lucky.

More info: https://ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/RGDR3127S also included pic from original axe palace page and convo with their owner.

Cool find

I was totally gonna buy this for 79$, but upon further inspection the neck was super bowed. Would it still be worth trying to fix ? Super cool flamed neck.
