Is the salary of civil engineers nowadays low? And is it hard to go abroad?

I’m an incoming first-year college student, and I’m still having a hard time deciding which course to take. I’ve asked some of my relatives who are in the civil engineering field, and most of them told me that civil engineering doesn’t pay that well anymore, especially with the increasing number of graduates in the Philippines.

Right now, my main options are Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Geodetic Engineering. I’ve been trying to research each field, but I’m still confused about which path is the most stable and worth pursuing in the long run.

I just want to ask, are civil engineers really underpaid nowadays? Is it also true that it’s harder for civil engineers to find opportunities abroad compared to other fields?

For Computer Science, I’ve seen mixed opinions. Some say it has high salary potential, while others mention that it can be hard to find a job, especially for fresh graduates without strong skills.

As for Geodetic Engineering, I don’t know much about its career opportunities, salary potential, and demand locally and internationally.

Given these three options, which course would you recommend in terms of job stability, salary growth, and future opportunities (both in the Philippines and abroad)? I’d really appreciate insights from people who have experience in these fields.

Thoughts on Nexus Technologies

I recently got an offer for a consultant role for Nexus Technologies. May I ask if this is worth it to pursue? Mataas ba pasahod nila?

Blockchain Developer Intern ako before and currently working on a freelance project (distributed network using Hyperledger Fabric 2.5/3.1). Ang observation ko kasi, parang halos walang local postings for enterprise blockchain—karamihan Solidity/Web3 or remote abroad.

Early Career Shift from IT Support to Freelance Automation Specialist

Hello, I’m 24M. Currently an IT support for a BPO Company. First job ko IT support mag 7 mos and counting. I want to level up, I know na baka OFF sa iba na plan ko sana is magresign kahit 7 mos palang ako which is not typical for a job history for resume na typical 1 year +.

Gusto ko sana magcareer shift into AI Automation specialist as a freelancer since may skills ako dito and may mga nagawa na din akong projects as portfolio. Asking for advice if okay lang ba if umalis na ako sa work ko and mag full time Freelancer. I believe in my skills and I think eto yung growth na naniniwala ako magiging worth it pero need ko ng advice from others regarding my plan.

I really wanted to be a cloud engineer pero mas nagustuhan ko yung Automation and plano na yun muna unahin bago ko ipatuloy yung aspiration, upskill learning, and dream job ko as Cloud Engineer wherein may foundation ako as Freelance Automation Specialist.

Thank you!
