People going 60+ on Pulaski into Huntsville

I drive this way every morning into work. And the majority of the time there's a pick-up behind me with their high beams on tailgating and blinding me. Then when Pulaski turns into 2 lanes, they zoom past.

I've talked to people that live around me and they say they'll be going 55 there and people will still fly past them when the limit is 45. If a bunch of cops sat where it turns into 2 lanes between 330am-600am they all could fill their monthly quota from all the pick-ups in the left lane going 65. Which it seems like 90% of them doing this are pick-ups.

Then they'll either turn into the Toyota plant or fly down to Bob wade and take that into Huntsville.

Homeless Help Group/Garden

Hey everyone!

I have been obsessed with the thought of creating a community garden specifically for the less fortunate/homeless so that they have access to free food that’s good for their health and possibly even an outlet if they want to help maintain the garden. I also would like to start a volunteer group that collects backpacks and fills them with essentials/non perishables (donation based hopefully) to give out to homeless around Huntsville. I was going to start around thanksgiving last year so that the homeless could feel thankful for something and then do another around Christmas because everyone deserves gifts but life was well……life. I’m ready to try again this year and realized it would be fun to create a group of people that would be open and willing to help with this initiative. I became even more obsessed this morning after doing a discussion post for college and realizing that if Americans cut our food waste by just a quarter we could be around 25 million Americans per year. If we eliminated it entirely we could rid the ENTIREEEEE world of hunger.

Both my mom and I moved here 2-3 years ago so we are always looking to meet new like minded individuals with kind hearts. Let me know if this is something that interests you or any ideas/donations you have! Thank you! 😊

Jobs for moms

Are there any jobs that pay 20+ an hour part time or full time that shifts are from 7-3:30? I just had a baby and I’m willing to go back to work long as it fits my kids schedule…

More experience doesnt mean a job apparently in this city...

Soo long story short, ive lived in huntsville since 04' when i attended college. Got my BS in mechanical engineering in 09' couldnt find a real good job at that time, just retail. It wasnt till 7yrs after undergrad where i landed a job with NASA as a contractor, working on the International Space Station program. Mind you i had an internship/co-op my senior yr in college 08-09, for Boeing & NASA on the Ares I program, which is now SLS/Artemis. Anywho was on ISS program contract with 3 different companies at no fault of my own. Then got with JSEG now Amentum in 23' and lost my job along with others due to funding an favortism. Aint been back to NASA since Oct 25-Feb 1 where i lost my job again due to cut of contract time an terms. Have had several interviews even a few i thought and knew i had (partly cuz i had friends who told me to apply) but somehow didnt get. Either cuz i dont have a SECRET clearance or not enough yrs, or in the case of my NASA experience, the DoD side wont hire me cuz i dont have enough DoD experience or a cert or a clearance. O got nearly 9yrs of NASA experience and nearly 15yrs in customer service retail. As a newly married man with a 2yr old an another son due in June, im starting to feel less of a man, dad, an husband. Dont know really what to do.....

What was the sports store in Best Buy's parking lot?

What was the original store in that building in the Best Buy parking lot which is now Pier 88 and Kyuramen?

It was some kind of sports clothing store?

This is driving my wife and I nuts.

In a huge fit of embarrassment, Yassen Kabob has closed. Permanently.

So I posted asking about this place last year, so exciting to get a kabob place on Madison Blvd. Well turns out it was just Al Shish opening a second location. Less exciting, but I was still a fan of Al Shish so I had to go try it.

We went the first week or two of them opening. It was horrible. Everything was being made at the Hughes Rd store and being reheated at the new location. No Baklava. I was promised if I came back tomorrow they would have baklava, I came back tomorrow the guy who promised it to me didn't know what I was talking about and then when he remembered he was apologetic.

But the service and management was an absolute joke, the girl the owner had running the store was trying to also be an assistant manager at BK next door, I asked her if she still worked there, she said she was doing both, I knew her vaguely so she was jovial when she told me. I mean sure get that bag, but for fucks sake the food is horrible and the place you are actually supposed to be managing is NOT working.

They were never busy, they relatively quickly "closed to make improvements" or something, hand scrawled note on the door, but I checked in, nothing moved or changed. I talked about how he is burning rent but it's cheaper than losing money on wages and food costs.

I know they have several stores in Michigan and it was named after his son, Yassen. The custom sign alone is a costly reminder of this absurd endeavor.

You always hear the joke about mattress stores and car washes being money laundering fronts. Cafe 153 being another one, how do you pay the manager of a coffee shop with insane overhead $50k a year? This in my opinion is the most likely case to be made. Otherwise its the worst business decision I have seen locally since the donut place on University did a gofundme to get money for a food truck and blame DQ for their problems..

Working Conditions at Rosie's Cantina

I think this allowed here... but this post is about the working conditions at Rosie's Cantina.

Despite successful recruiting, there are several systemic problems preventing new hires from staying.

First, there is a significant issue with a core group of long-term employees targeting new hires through bullying and sexual harassment. This behavior goes unchecked because management has developed unprofessional personal relationships with these employees, often socializing with them outside of work. This closeness clouds their judgment and prevents any meaningful resolution to workplace misconduct.

Furthermore, the hiring process seems to overlook clear red flags regarding mental health or substance abuse issues in new candidates. These hires often struggle and ultimately leave or are terminated within a month. I have also observed deeply concerning behavior, such as staff discussing providing alcohol to underage coworkers and making inappropriate sexual remarks in front of management without consequence. One lead server, in particular, is frequently verbally abusive toward new hires in front of both staff and guests.

The current scheduling practices are also unsustainable. Employees are consistently scheduled for double-like shifts, such as "splits" or "working through" rush times, without proper breaks. This schedule is physically demanding and makes it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, the sidework system—specifically silverware rolling—is inequitably distributed and the method required is physically painful.

Finally, the practice of managers hiring or managing their own family members and spouses has created further conflicts of interest.

I believe these issues need to be addressed to improve staff morale and operational efficiency.

Any security managers here in the area who can answer some questions about clearance and how long it is good for? I am aware that SECRET clearance is good for 5 years.

So I am currently at a job where my SECRET clearance is not being used at the moment for 2 years now, long story short I took on a different role to gain some work experience and hands-on in the field, nevertheless, I am looking into finding a job in the near future where it will utilize my clearance again, however I am still within the 5 year window of the investigation since 2023 in which I should still be good until 2028? Right? If that's the case, when I apply for jobs in the near future, will the employer have to start everything all over again for my clearance? or they can pick up my clearance again since I am still in that 5-year window of investigation?

Providence Indian Creek Green-way is still 0.9 miles after 23 years.

Any ideas on when the bridge over Indian creek on Hwy 72 west is going to be redesigned and rebuilt?

https://preview.redd.it/9hc48v07ocwg1.png?width=1559&format=png&auto=webp&s=587a95cb6ed625c1b8a8b24fa01da30a71101f08

This bridge rebuild is the linchpin to extending the Providence Indian creek green-way and linking it up with the Madison Indian Creek green-way.

Thanks!

Space and Rocket Center Flight Jacket Patches

I got my very own flight jacket yesterday! I'm curious if the large Velcro square and the USSRC patch are removable. I can clearly see that they're sewn on, but I'm not sure if they're glued. I want to remove the visitor center patch and replace it with the meat ball. I'm an Alabama resident so it's obvious where I got the jacket so that's why I'm considering removing the USSRC patch
