Gems Nether Hub Glass

Does anyone have a guess or a rough idea on how many layers of glass Gem used to get that fog effect? I want to use the same technique for my halls in my storage area and I’m about 12 layers deep and it does not seem like it’s going to be enough!

All together now!

Final final hermit tamagotchi post. Someone asked me to explain the thought process behind the designs, and I also tweaked 2 of them. So here it goes, horizontally top left to bottom right.

  • Doc: sparkly pink because we all love poking the GOAT
  • Impulse: probably one of the most iconic ones, his yellow I on a black background
  • Keralis: boosh
  • Beef: one of the tougher ones, I went with his butcher's apron
  • Gem: cottage core queen. Would probably redo this one in a dragon theme if I did this again
  • Jevin: just his skin's color. I did go a little too dark on it though
  • Scar: someone suggested jellie or hotguy colors. I did both, though they don't really work together
  • Skizz: a giraffe doing the limbo painting its toenails red. If you don't get that, I recommend watching Guess The Build videos, they're a ton of fun!
  • Ren: another tough one, I just drew dog ears, his iconic sunglasses and a dog nose. I like Ren a lot, and really don't like how this one doesn't do him justice
  • Mumbo: moustache pattern and a color that feels like it could be in his title cards
  • Zedaph: easy peasy, just his channel's colors
  • Grian: pesky bird
  • Etho: eefo
  • Xb: also a hard one, I don't know him that well, so I just went with his skin's hoodie. Was going to put an observer keychain on it but I forgot
  • Joe: the @ symbol on his shirt
  • Bdubs: master builder, redstone genius, champion of hide and seek, and most of all, moss man
  • Xisuma: his color scheme, at least for his current music arc, but I think overall as well
  • Cub: in hindsight I should've done sculk, it's a picture of the night sky instead because iirc he has some link to space engineering or something?
  • Cleo: another tough one, I went with their 80's aerobics vibe that they use for the Life series
  • Pearl: was just the Minecraft moon, is now another Life series reference
  • False: I still associate False with steampunk because of her (I think) season 9 base. Just went with her outfit instead
  • Joel: his hair definitely makes his face one of the most iconic hermit faces
  • TFC: I was using the Hermitcraft website banner as reference and he was on there, so if I was going to do all hermits, I was going to do all hermits
  • Tango: looked like a red and yellow marble but got changed to a more vampiric color scheme. It's not much of an improvement though
  • Hypno: another hermit I really don't know at all, so I just took his skin as inspiration. Made the yellow part glowy to make it more distinct but that was just on a whim
  • Wels: I like Wels, he's soft-spoken and I align with a lot of his views, but there isn't much about his default skin that stands out. Idk why, but I associate him with yellow and red

Alright, time for me to never think about Tamagotchis ever again

Should the C Major Chord in the chord maker not have the notes C, E and G?

I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if it is a typo, but I would have thought the C Major has the notes C, E and G, and not C, E and F, no?

Grian's album cover

I'd like to propose the cover of Green Day's American Idiot for Grian.

P.S. I could create this image myself, but I don't have the time this evening. It's just a concept. Please be kind. 🙃

Has Scar discussed the Mandalorian and Grogu at length?

I’m curious if he’s discussed it yet, I would be fascinated to hear his thoughts especially about all of the behind the scenes work which we have seen, bringing in old school animatronics and miniatures rather than just using CGI. I haven’t found any clips of it, but I feel like it would be like a dream for Scar to talk about it.

We owe Joe Hills alot.

Just a reminder. At the end of Hermitcraft season one, Generik B wanted to finish Hermitcraft. It was Joe Hills who pushed to.make Hermitcraft season 2 happen. Taking the reigns of it until X took over admin early in the season.

The community owes a great deal to Joe.

Do you know the origin of each Hermit's name?

Hey everyone.

I started watching Hermitcraft videos in session 9. I love the community, the Hermits, and everything they all do. 🥰

I have a question, just out of curiosity: Do you know the origin of each Hermit's name?

I know, for example, that Gem is named after a horse she had as a child;

Doc is named after a basketball player, if I'm not mistaken;

Zombie Cleo is from a character she had in a game before she played Minecraft;

Etho is because he likes names that start with "E." So he grabbed a dictionary (if my memory serves me right) and saw "ETHO." He liked it and chose that name. 🤣

But I don't know the reasons why the others chose their names. And I love a good story. Thank you!

Where do I find vods from the Blindfolded Bingo?

Just as the title says, I saw a few of them and i'd like to see more. So far i found Gem/Grian, Scott/Jimmy, Impulse/Skizz and Bdubs/Tango, but i can't find the rest. I really wanna see the one with Joel/Scar and False/Cleo.

A phonological pronunciation of Xisuma.

I believe I can solve this debate through the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and my own personal etymological reasoning for once and for all two seconds before we go back to the debate. (Turns out I didn’t help at all).

Using the IPA I can deduce the pronunciation of Xisuma is pronounced as (German)ch, i (as in it), s (as in soup), u (as in French où), m (as in make) and a (as in German Tanz). You might notice, this is really hard for an English to pronounce, so instead I’ve opted for a slightly more rational… rationality?

I have recently learnt Xisuma’s name comes from a backwards spelling of the English word “music” (received pronunciatio /ˈmjuː.zɪk/) with an x replacing the c and an a to make it sound better (yes I’m an idiot). Now let’s get into it. “X” (/ɛks/) in the English language when used as the initial sound in a word usually makes a /z/ or a /ʃ/ (sh) sound. I more often hear /z/ and music spelt musix would sound like /ˈmjuː.zɪks/ I’ll go with that. I ends up being pretty easy, just ending up as the IPA spelling /i/ which is like i in “it”. In music “s” is not pronounced /s/ like normal but rather /z/, and the same I think would work for Xisuma. “U” ends up a little difficult, as the first element of music /ˈmjuː/ could be interpreted as the /m/ taking the /j/ (English y as in yogurt) or the /uː/ (oo) taking the /j/, however I personally find /juː/ easier on the tongue. Now we’ve sorted /uː/ and /m/ in one go we’re now at “a” which we could easily just sum up to being the IPA /a/ and call it that, but we’re a lazy language and are accustomed to the “-er” noun ending so I think we can make it an /ə/.

So in the end the phonetic spelling should end up looking something like these:

Xisuma: /zi.zjuː.mə/ or /ʃi.zjuː.mə/ (zih-zyoo-muh or shih-zyoo-muh)

I of course, am not a professional, and just have linguistics as a hobby. However I thought this was a fun thought experiment.

Thank you for reading

16 more Hermitgotchis

The other half of the Hermit Tamagotchis. I really struggled with a few of these. I just don't know some hermits that well, like Hypno or Beef, and I didn't know what to do for some of my favorite hermits, like Gem or Ren. Some of these, like Keralis and his booshes, were a bit of a stretch. Maybe I should've gone for a Roman theme after all.

This was fun, though I'm kinda glad they're done. Time to de-hermit my brain.

If you don't understand the Skizz one: it's a giraffe doing the limbo while painting its toenails red XD
