Moving from Buffalo to Hartford, I need some advice

Hey everyone! So I'm planning on moving from Buffalo, NY to the Hartford area sometime in July/August and honestly I could use some advice from people who actually live there.

Quick rundown of my situation: I'm a recent grad, I don't have a job lined up yet or a place secured. My plan is basically to find a one bedroom apartment, get something in retail, office work, or even a factory/warehouse job just to cover my bills while I job hunt for something in my actual field (actuarial science).

I know it's not the most airtight plan but Buffalo winters have finally broken me lol and Hartford has been on my radar for a while since it's actually a solid market for my field. I just wanna make sure I'm not walking into any obvious pitfalls.

Some things I'd love input on:

- What's a realistic price range for a one bedroom apartment around Hartford? I know Downtown Hartford is probably on the pricier side, but I'm totally fine commuting 25–45 minutes if it means more affordable rent. So what areas should I be looking at?

- Are those Facebook Marketplace room/apartment listings legit or should I be careful with certain ones?

- How's the job market for entry-level or temp work if you need something quick to get on your feet?

- Anything you wish someone had told you before you moved there?

Any advice is appreciated, even if it's just "don't do it" lol. Just want to go in with realistic expectations. Thanks in advance!

moving to the area for work, looking for a apartment.

Moving to the Hartford / East Hartford area soon. Only staying for 1 year for work and trying to look for an apartment in a decently safe area. Looking for a 1 bd room apt with a budget of 1600$

I don’t mind up to a ~30 min commute, so I’m open to surrounding towns if it means a safer environment.

Would love honest input from locals:

  • Any areas/towns you’d avoid completely?

Mourning Dove juvenile in need of transport and rehab

Hello. I’m visiting from out of state for a Wedding. I leave tomorrow (Monday) at 6pm for the airport. On a walk today, I found a juvenile MODO fallen and removed from its nest. It is close, but not flying age yet. Lots of ferals in this area, so the bird is in my possession. I do not have seed, millet, time, resources, or transportation. I really don’t have much at my disposal here, except what you’re looking at. The money/bill is for size reference. I spoke with police because I happened to come across some officers during my walk and I asked them. They basically said I was SOL. I would like Reddit’s second opinion, connections, community, and resources.

TLDR- I need someone to pick up and transport to a rehabber. I’m not from here and I leave tomorrow afternoon.
