[BG] Dad trying to help my 11 year old son build his first his first pc so he can get into coding and gaming development [H] £100-150

I hope this kind of post is okay here.

My son is 11 years old and has become absolutely obsessed with PCs, coding, and game development.

He spends hours watching videos about building computers, learning how games are made, and talking about wanting to create his own someday. I’d really love to encourage that interest because he’s genuinely passionate about it.

The problem is that money is extremely tight for us at the moment, and I simply can’t afford to buy parts to help him build his first PC.

We’re based in the UK, and I wanted to ask if anyone in the community has any old or spare PC parts sitting around that they no longer need and would be willing to donate. Even older hardware would mean the world to him and would give him something to learn on and experiment with.

I’m more than happy to pay what I can and cover postage costs.

Even if nobody has spare parts, I’d really appreciate any advice on, cheap starter builds, beginner resources for coding/game development or anything else that could help him get started

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi Guys,

I've got this superb system for sale. Yes it's a few years old, but it's still very capable. It's never been abused, it was my dev machine for spreadsheets and other coding, so the CPU, RAM and GPU haven't needed to be overclocked:

Ryzen 9 5950X

Asus Rog Crosshair VIII Hero X570

64Gb (4x16Gb) Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 RAM

Gigabyte RTX 3060Ti 8Gb

It does have 6Tb all SSD installed storage but I'll only be selling with this one:

1 x 2Tb Sabrent Rocket NVME PCIE4.0 (split into 2 partitions)

Corsair RM750 PSU

Custom Cables (except the one which I couldn't get when I'd updated my GPU).

Deepcool ARK 90 Mid Tower Case with built in 280mm AIO.

Deepcool Gamer Storm Frameless Fans with controller. I'll also provide the original 140mm Deepcool RGB fans that came with the case.

I may be open to splitting into bundles, but would prefer to sell as-is.

I may also be open to trades. Let me know what you've got.

Collection preferred (near Cheltenham) or can ship. I'll split the shipping cost with the buyer.

I have a DELL 24" Ultrafine monitor I can also bundle with this if wanted.

[SG] Gaming PC - ASUS 4070 Super & AMD 7 7800X3D & 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL60 [W] £1175

Selling gaming PC I assembled around 1.5 years ago, fully functional and runs games on ultra settings 1440p at amazing fps with no issue. Selling as these days I only play games that I can run on my laptop so it feels pointless just sitting there! The RAM in it is worth alot alone but my work life is too busy at the moment to sell the whole thing individually.

Component List as follows;

GPU: Asus DUAL EVO GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core AM5
RAM: ADATA XPG LANCER Black DDR5-6000 CL30 32GB (2x16GB)
Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe
Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 DDR5 ATX
PSU: Corsair RM750e (2023) 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Water 240mm Black
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 PWM PST 120mm Black 56.3 CFM 1-Pack
PC Case: Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower Black Tempered Glass Side Panel

The PC hasn't been used for a while but I have ran through and tested games on it recently and updated drivers. It does have a slightly long boot-up of about 45-75 seconds but I understand this can be fixed in the bios by someone smarter than me! To note - it has personally never really bothered me. The USB ports on the top of the case that no one ever uses aren't wired to the motherboard, this can be connected at any time I just chose not to fiddle as I knew I would never use them.

Please drop me a message if you are interested!

[BG] DDR4 2400MHz 16GB [H] £30

Just wondering if anyone has some ram laying around. 2x 8GB DDR4 at 2400MHz is what I'm after. Doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Thanks!

My preference for payment is BT, then PP F&F or G&S. Buyer ideally will need to cover fees if paying with G&S. Fees calculator: https://www.clothnappytree.com/ppcalculator/

Best way to contact me is on HWSUK discord and then Reddit chat, but might be less active on Reddit chat. Thank you

**FAQ**

* I do these upgrades as a pet project. I'm trying to prevent e-waste by basically fixing otherwise perfectly fine controllers to a useable state and get satisfaction from doing so. I'm just a normal guy, not a professional repair man doing this for a living.

* Unless stated in my listing, all my controllers have K-Silver JS13 Pro+ TMR joysticks installed. They are really smooth and are one of the DIY joystick replacement/repair community's favourites, calibrated to between 7-9% as per community advice.

* All controllers are deep cleaned, tested and are working to the best of my knowledge. I do not sell faulty controllers knowingly, unless I state it explicitly that the controller has a fault.

* Remember these are used controllers and therefore potentially have cosmetic flaws and worse battery life compared to a brand new controller. Please ask for and check photos before purchase. I also cannot fully test battery life on these controllers so please set low expectations.

* I barely break even in these controllers after cost of new joysticks, time spent, soldering equipment and disposables (e.g. solder, flux, electricity) spent.

* TMR sticks are designed to not drift and last much longer than ALPS sticks. You as a buyer potentially save money not having to purchase a new controller at retail price, only for it to fail again months down the line

* From my perspective, the continued use of standard ALPS joystick components, which wears and tears quickly, over TMR or Hall effect joysticks in DualSense controllers, leads people to spending more money to buy replacement Dualsenses.

* I do not provide customisations such as shell swaps, click switches, battery replacement or back paddles - like I said above, I'm just trying to fix e-waste.

* The difference between BDM-030, BDM-040 etc. is the higher the model number, the newer the Dualsense hardware revision, and more likely the better they will be (better internals, potential less worn battery, less use etc.)
