Concerts

Just turned 17 on 4/20, got two tickets to see GNR in Hershey in 8/1, what should I expect? This’ll be my first real concert. I don’t think I want to record anything because I just want to the embrace the full experience, because ik there will be videos circulating the internet. How much better do they sound in person compared to videos (especially Axl)?

All gnr songs ranked! (Besides the b sides)

I just listened through every gnr album and while it’s fresh in my head i ranked them all in the form of a tier list. I also took the singles as well as shadow of your love and oh my god and listened to them too. Nothin and Atlas weren’t on this tier list so i added them myself.

Legendary GNR Shows: Mannheim 1991

The show that took place on August 24, 1991, at the Maimarktgelände near Mannheim Germany is widely cited by GNR historians and Izzy himself as the "last straw" that convinced him he could no longer stay in the band.

The tension on the Use Your Illusion tour had been building for months, especially after the St. Louis riot in July. By the time they reached Germany, the band was on edge. During the Mannheim set, Axl became frustrated - reportedly due to monitor issues and people throwing things at the stage -and simply walked off, throwing the microphone up in the air behind him. Izzy can be seen in footage of the show kicking the mic back toward him.

Axl didn't just go to the dressing room; he walked straight out of the venue, got into a car, and demanded to be driven away. The show's promoter, realizing that another riot (similar to St. Louis) was about to erupt with tens of thousands of angry fans, took drastic action. He ordered the security teams to lock the venue gates, physically preventing Axl's car from leaving the premises. The promoter allegedly threatened Axl with massive legal action and criminal charges if he didn't return to the stage. After about 30 to 45 minutes of chaos backstage - during which drummer Matt Sorum famously challenged Axl about his behavior -Axl eventually went back out and finished the show.

Izzy, who had recently become sober and was already traveling separately from the band on his own bus to avoid the party atmosphere, watched the entire meltdown from the side of the stage. For Izzy, the Mannheim show represented everything he hated about the new era of GNR. He was tired of the constant threat of riots and the stress of never knowing if a show would actually finish. He felt the band had become a "tyranny" where one person's mood could jeopardize the safety and livelihood of everyone else.

Izzy later noted that after he finished the Mannheim show, he looked at the chaos and the anger backstage and realized the "brotherhood" of the band was dead.

While he finished the remaining European dates (ending at Wembley Stadium on August 31), Izzy returned to the U.S. and officially resigned from the band in November 1991, famously sending his resignation via his legal and management team rather than calling Axl directly.

Chinese Democracy 2000

So i just randomly happened to listen to some early demos of Chinese Democracy on youtube and man, what a pity that Axl didn‘t release that album in that form at that time. I‘m sure it would have been huge… And I like the official release too, don‘t get me wrong. But, for example, I played an early version of this I love (with drums by Manta If I am not mistaken) and It‘s so much better, it‘s a real rocker, while the official version is more of a musical number. And I‘m like, wow, the production can really make or break a song. Again, I also like the maximising strategy of creating a bigger than life sound a la Queen, but most of the songs just sound way better stripped down. Man, I love the internet, ‚cause now I can appreciate even more Chinese democracy and can safety say that it‘s genius. I‘km just sorry for the music, because it will never reach a bigger audience. And there‘s something about these songs (the industrial/alternative/electronic sound) that reminded me of guns in their prime (Appetite for destruction), listening to this music, which again, is totally different, I felt again that danger and and eerie feeling that was absent in the USe your illusion era. What a pity really.

I went to 2 Slash concerts and got this

Back in 2012 my dad and I (15 at the time) went to see Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. My dad snatched a poster off a wall and I got Slash's setlist (see his footprint) and two picks. After the show, Slash signed both of them.

In 2014 they visited Amsterdam again. My little brother joined my dad and me. I brought along my album poster and 2011/2012 CD boxset. Slash signed both of them and told my little brother "Hey I remember you from the front row!"

Fond memories from two amazing shows by one of the nicest musicians I've ever met.

Anyone know which ‘The Spaghetti Insident’ was out first/ is less common?

I bought the top one first and originally from a seller on Ebay, i found it started to skip, so when i found another one in my local record shop i had to buy it. I noticed they have different cd designs and im just wondering which is ‘rarer’/ the original, any insight would be helpful, thanks

Question about Live like a Suicide? vinyl

Hello,

Lately I've bought a Live like a Suicide vinyl. Seller said it is original, but when I' ve got it I've seen it has no STERLING press in runout and the cover is in bad quality. Seller said that vinyl was bought in 90s. I wonder is it true? That album was bootlegged in 80s,90s?

Edit: And is it worth something?
