Its been about a week since i watched gintama, but i came back when the Yoshiwara movie was dropping

For context, ive dropped gintama a few times but pick up where i left off, and when i saw the trailer for the Yoshiwara movie i had to pick it back up cuz i wanted to experience the anime adaptation compared to the movie release cuz it looks generally beautiful seeing the extra detail and the redesigns of the characters.

Spoilers ahead for people who havent watched the arc, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT WATCHED IT.

And for th most part, i was basically itching to watch the Yoshiwara in flames arc cuz of the moments that occur and the high stakes odd jobs went through just for a kid who wants his mother. Shinpachi and Gintoki almost died for this kid and it was satisfying to see that Yoshiwara became a district where these women are now free and able to see sunlight over being used for their bodies.

And i think my favourites moments was ofcourse Kagura going apeshit against Abuto, Gintokis entrance where he throws his sword at the door where Hinowa was behind, Seita realising that even if Hinowa was his adoptive mother he still saw her as his mom and finally got to hug her, and the King of the Night dying cuz he couldnt handle sunlight.

it was a pretty disappointing backstory, where this man who could rival Umibozu did all of this, trapped so many women to be sex slaves to deprived men in an underground city blocked by metal flooring, that not even the Bakfuku could touch, cuz he could die to sunlight, but it did have a good conclusion where Hinowa can live out her days without the fear of being trapped or used for her looks or body.

This arc was a lot better than the other serious ones ive seen, but it had a much better tone with less humour and a more dark theme to it which is what you should expect in shows that are meant to be comedies. 8/10 for me

But one thing i look forward to is the extra content in the movie, i am so glad that the Shinsengumi and Katsura are also infiltrating Yoshiwara, and seeing Sogo and Hijikata fighting Amanto in Yoshiwara, with KATSURA FIGHTING KAMUI. LIKE GINTAMA FANS WHO WATCHED THE ENTIRE SERIES ARE EATING GOOD. YALL GOT THE GINPACHI SENSEI SHOW, THE YOSHIWARA AND A NEW ANIME FROM THE CREATORS WORK.

Just finished season 1 of my first watch and I have a few thoughts. (Watching DUBBED)

First off I would just like to point out that I was never really that interested in watching this series and figured I never would (btw I’ve seen the most recent movie which I thought was ok although obviously I missed most of the jokes/references) but I’ve seen so many clips and moments from the show that I finally gave in and I’m glad I did wait so long as I really only watch DUB especially for longer shows and I recently found out that the show was somewhat recently fully dubbed and put on HULU so I guess my hesitance paid off. I know some will recommend the SUB to me and I just wanna say thank you but i only watch DUB and if it’s not available I usually won’t want the show. I know there might be different jokes/lines but I’m perfectly fine watching it this way. Anyway

I went into the show thinking it was fully episodic and it still somewhat appeared to be imo for the first few episodes or so but around episode 10 when things got a bit more serious I started to pay more attention to the continuity. Partially due to that I kinda forgot who certain characters were at time and their importance to the story/Interactions that they had with other characters that were referenced in other episodes so I had to go back a few times and do some quick research to jog my memory (Hasegawas first episode for example)

It maybe took me until the Desert episode to realize that there are in increasing number of people from Gins past/the war that are popping up here and there which I’m guessing is gonna lead to some kind of rebellion especially since so many people have a reason to hate the Amanto

I think I was mostly lukewarm on the show until the Sadaharus first episode, note sure if I was used to it or if it just got better from there or what but starting from that episode I started to enjoy it a lot more.

My favorite episodes so far have been the Katsura Ramen episode/50th episode celebration/when Gin gets his memory back/when they infiltrate the Club/Sadaharus transformation/

Least favorite-When Kaguras dad came back/rescuing Elizabeth as ninjas (although the fight was cool)/some other ones I can’t think of

Not sure if it’s just the DUB I’m watching but it feels like what you would get if Adult Swim made an anime (Aqua Teen Hunger Force vibes comedy wise). I say that in a mostly positive way although still a bit strange

Something about Kaguras voice was a bit distracting at first. I can’t tell if it’s the voice itself or the delivery or both but I always take note of it. Also she kind of reminds me of Ed from EdEddnEddy with her side comments and non sequitur

Are there any Kingdom Hearts fans here? That song “Mukashino Yujinga Kawarazuni Irutoiunomo Warukunaimonodana...” sounds like the Twilight Town Theme and I think about it everytime it plays during an episode

Also what’s with all the Bald jokes? How does the bald headed community who are fan of the series feel about it? I’m sure it’s just supposed to be lighthearted jokes but they seem pretty mean spirited in my opinion

Rewatching Courtesan of the nation arc + questions for critics

i absolutely love it , its so beautifully written , all the characters truly shined , all the new character introductions we’re brilliant , yorozuya + tsukuyo is always peak , but yorozuya + tsukuyo + shinsengumi + shogun + miwarugumi?! that’s literally peak. I really think the writing went up from thorny arc and just elevated after that . I haven’t seen a better anime then Gintama that is so creative with such interesting arcs and not just fighting (except AOT) , but these days I’ve been seeing a lot of people shitting on Gintama and saying it’s “poorly written” , i wouldn’t mind if there’s a critic that can calmly explain to me why they think Gintama is poorly written

I watched a bit of the 2017 dub and I realized something about Gintoki’s english voice actor

For context I live in the Vancouver area in Canada and I still listen to the radio and holy shit I just realized that Micheal Daingerfeild does a lot of ad work in the Vancouver area I’ve heard Gintoki tell me that it’s time to register my home for tax exemptions (I can’t find the public service announcement anywhere but I’m like 98% sure it’s him) as well as Daquil night and flu, vicks honey lemon drops, ritz, travellers insurance, and so many others now I don’t think he’s a bad choice for Gintoki (to be honest no one besides Tomokazu Sugita will ever be as good as Gintoki) but now any time I hear his voice doing ads I won’t be able to think of anything else besides Gintoki trying to scam me

Made Gintoki in Tomodachi Life

I’m artistically challenged but I did my best. I like how the outfit turned out the most.
