Was gifted to me and came from Brazil mine. In direct sunlight it seems more blue and indirect it’s more teal. Very clear and can’t spot any imperfections. I know nothing about gems but curious what people think.

Hi all! I'm VERY new to this and somewhat impulsively purchased this loose sapphire. For reference, the listing described this as "1.19 Ct Natural Orange Pink Sapphire" with no indication of heat. I' had this untreated star saphire (9.2 carats) set in 15 grams of platinum. Overall cost: 4300 dollars. Was this too much for the stone and ring or is it a good deal? I'm thinking of asking the jeweler for more work but wanted to make sure I'm getting decent prices here. Thank you

I’m having these set into an engagement ring with a 7 carat princess cut diamond.
Can anyone give their opinion on whether this is turquoise or something else? I purchased this around 2000 in a department store in the costume jewelry section. I remember it had a high original price, but I got it on clearance. They have a very rough stone look and feel, so I don't think it's plastic. I know they dye or treat some stones to look like turquoise. I will like it regardless because I like the style, but I was just curious what it might be?

Hi! I recently bought a custom piece with a colour-changing stone that was sold to me as “alexandrite” (likely lab-created), and I’m trying to figure out how to verify what it actually is.
From photos and videos, it shows a noticeable colour shift (blue/green in daylight to pink/purple in warmer light), and it’s faceted and pretty clear. But I know lighting and cameras can sometimes make things look more dramatic than they are.
I’m not expecting it to be natural alexandrite, just want to confirm whether it’s genuinely lab-created alexandrite vs a generic colour-change synthetic or glass.
What are the best ways to tell at home?
• Are there specific lighting tests I should do?
• Any visual signs I should look for in the facets or colour shift?
• Or is the only reliable way to take it to a jeweller/gemologist?
