Anyone using Expedition mode all the time to squeeze more battery life out of Garmin watch (Fenix 8)

Today I suddenly thought about whether Expedition mode can squeeze more battery during paused mode and after I tried I can still use the watch as usual.

Remaining life jump from 25 days to 70 days with 77% battery left.

Which watch?

So my fenix 6s pro 42mm died on holiday last week. Fermin are offering me 30% off a new watch! My only issue is I loved my fenix but the 42 battery wasn’t as great as my partners 5x(which is still great) I went to try on the 47 but it’s so uncomfortable and the black strap is so long! I hate the white garmins as mine was white and got filthy. So I can get the gold either way sandstone for about £610 with discount. Not actually a great saving as 3rd parties selling for £700! O had really hoped to get the 47mm but I don’t know why it’s so uncomfortable! I even tried the Apple Watch Ultra which is huge but comfortable! I don’t know what to do! I’m worried about 43mm battery, do I just like the look of the Apple as it’s shiny? Will I miss Garmins sensible features? I love using maps and that’s the big thing for me! I love body battery and training status etc! Help a small wrist hiker out!

Couldn't decide between MIP & AMOLED so I got both

My first Garmin(s). Coming from Galaxy Watch Ultra. I already love the battery life. I couldn't decide between the 2, I see advantages and disadvantages of both. Still a lot to learn about but I'm looking forward to it!

My leather strap finally arrived!

Looks amazing with black Fenix 8!
That’s original Garmin Chestnut leather case.

PS: Used for a bit but for me it even better for leather!

Trying this guy again! Fenix 51mm

Has anyone had a tough time adjusting to garmin coming from Apple?

I Got this same watch over a month ago but I never really tried to give it a proper go. I decided to return it and go back to my Apple Watch Ultra. But I noticed last night that they were on sale by a lot. Got it for $1100 CAD so it was kind of a no brainer. Basically the same price for the ultra.

Screen issue on Fenix 8. sort of.

Hello everyone.
I hope someone has an answer for me.

I have this white "line"? at the top of my watch, between the screen and the Bessel" and halfway around the watch.

It doesn't seem to be dirt, I assume it could be a scratch but I haven't noticed it before today.

It doesn't affect the watch so far, but I do worry whether it can affect the actual screen in time.

Current Garmin sale Fenix 8 vs pro

I’m deciding on buying either the current sale either the fenix 8 or the fenix 8 pro. I’ve seen the screen is better in the pro and I was thinking will probably be supported longer as far as software releases.

I don’t think I will immediately use the lte and in reach features but for $100 over the regular 8 was thinking is with it?

Anyone who has upgraded to the 8 Pro or just have thr pro can provide me some advice?

Thanks

Matte MIP with leather strap

Accidentally took a look at my wrist today when driving and thought that it looked good.

I just got Quatix 8 Pro and it’s my first treadmill run with it. I was using Apple Watch before which was 10% over treadmill’s distance, however Q8Pro is 10% below. This sounds like quite a big difference to me. I believe the treadmill measurement is, or should be, correct.

Also the calories based on the same weight input are 620kcal treadmill vs 540 Q8Pro.

Any thoughts why and how this can be fixed?

So instead of amoled, which looks super nice, but unfortunately burns in and therefore can't be always on without dimming, and the highly unaffordable micro led, which is technically a great option, but yeah, unaffordable...

Why exactly don't they use MINI LED displays, which do not burn in? They can also get very bright and could in theory be always on, without risking a burn in. I don't watch any films on my watch, I don't need a trillion colors and perfect pitch black, I need a functional watch without having to wake up my watch by doing a wrist gesture...

So the point is you could in fact let the screen always on for the miniled, instead of the dimming problem with amoled.

Has anyone who purchased a Fenix 8 in the last week (preferably solar model) experienced issues when updating to the latest firmware?

Trying to see if this is still an ongoing issue or if it affects all new purchases or just some. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, due to super bad decision making,
I bought my first (and last) Garmin product.

1000 euros for the Fenix 8.

On the 1st day of usage i encountered a black
screen that you have to work around it. Also you cant have “always on” feature turned on because it also triggers the black screen appearance.

It seems that many users are encountering this problem.

While Garmin says it’s a high priority issue, 2 months have passed and they have not yet provided any fix.

This experience has made me reevaluate what I thought about my apple watch. I prefer to charge my watch every night rather than have a watch that is not working properly.

Stay away from this trash company. Probably they will change their approach when they see their sales going down.

Fenix 8 Sapphire Titan vs. 8 Pro (Both €800). Which one if I don't care about LTE?

Hey everyone,

I'm debating between the Fenix 8 Sapphire Titan and the 8 Pro since I can get either for exactly €800 right now.

Here is what I already know:

  • I will never pay for LTE.
  • Battery life isn't an issue for me.
  • The Pro's screen is brighter.

What I'm still trying to figure out:

  1. Sensors & Hardware: Are the HR/GPS sensors identical? Does the Pro have a better processor that makes it smoother?
  2. Software: Will the 8 Pro get software updates for longer, or are they treated as the same platform?
  3. Bulk: Is the Pro noticeably thicker or heavier? I'm wondering if it will be annoying to fit under a ski jacket cuff this winter.

If LTE is totally out of the equation, which one is the better buy? Thanks!

I’ve been using a Garmin Fenix 8 for over a year and generally trusted the wrist-based heart rate data during walks, workouts, and recovery tracking.

Today I did a side-by-side comparison that made me question how accurate my wrist HR has been for walking workouts.

I regularly do the same neighborhood walk that includes rolling hills.

Walk 1 (Fenix 8 wrist HR only):
- 3.97 miles
- 1:09:20
- 17:28 pace
- 420 ft elevation
- Avg HR: 110 bpm
- Max HR: 138 bpm
- Zone 3: only 10%

Walk 2 (same route, using Garmin chest strap):
- 4.33 miles
- 1:13:18
- 16:57 pace
- 400 ft elevation
- Avg HR: 122 bpm
- Max HR: 144 bpm
- Zone 3: 27%

What surprised me:

- The route was nearly identical
- I actually walked slightly farther today
- Pace was a little faster, but not dramatically different
- The wrist sensor appears to have underreported my average HR by 12 bpm

That feels like a pretty meaningful difference because it completely changes how Garmin categorized the workout.

With the wrist sensor, Garmin made it look like I was mostly doing very light Zone 1 work.

With the chest strap, it showed I was actually spending most of my time in Zone 2 with meaningful Zone 3 work.

Now I’m wondering how many of my workouts over the past year have been misclassified. My whole motivation for getting the chest strap is due to the watch showing a low HR when I’m sure I was near my max.

For those using a Fenix 8 (or other Garmin watches):

Have you noticed wrist HR being significantly off during walking, hiking, lifting, or interval workouts?

And for people who switched to a chest strap full-time was it worth it?

Hello,

I received my Fenix 8 47mm AMOLED yesterday, and after updating to the latest software I am left with a black screen. I have manually powered off the device, but after powering back on I am left with a black screen AGAIN. The only way to get the screen back is to plug the watch into a power source.

Should I get a replacement device or wait for a software update?

My Fenix 8

Step Counting during motor Rides

When i drive my motorcycle my watch recorded steps.

This seems like a significant error,

such inaccuracies are concerning.

For me is ugly watch

Honestly, I'm starting to think about selling it.

What a flop!

They're talking about sensor accuracy.

If it can't even register real steps, then the whole day is going to be a disaster, haha.

I’m looking to buy a new 47mm Fenix 8 AMOLED but am hesitant because of all of the issues related to the current firmware (specifically when updating from the out of box firmware to the latest firmware).

Does Garmin force you to update to the latest firmware when you first set up the device or can you skip the update and just stay on the initial firmware? Ideally, I would just avoid updating the firmware until a fix is released but idk if this is possible when setting up a new device.
