I’m a beginner fursuit maker and I’m so lucky to have friends that support me and commission me. This was such a fun challenge and I got to learn so many things.
Time taken: 13 days
Cost: 300
Times needle stabbed into my thumb: 1000
Title. Head made by SergNDerg Fursuits. Done a lot of small refurbs/repairs on it. How does one go about adding hair to something that's already finished? Send me ALL the hair tutorials!
tomorrow i will be remaking the same piece for the fifth time, because somehow, somewhere, the fur points the wrong way every time.
i got this piece done perfectly on the other side of the head, no clue why i cannot get this side to work. but here we are. making it a tomorrow issue because i got so tired of looking at it i had to leave the house.
(basically, the bridge of the nose and part of the muzzle close to the eye are pointing the right way, but for some reason the part in the middle is pointing towards the center. idk how i did that.)
Also would I be able to like… blend (I think thats the word) the patches/hair or would I have to buy each color (art by courier666 on toyhouse, character is mine ofc)
I feel like in places my head looks really asymmetrical, and kinda... weird looking? I dont know if I've been looking at it for too long or not, but it'd be great to hear your opinion or general critique while I can still shape this head!
Also, it'd help if anyone has made floppy ears before (like a labrador) and can tell me whether the foam parts of the ears are too large/too far apart etc!
also ive temporarily mask taped my 3d printed eyes in, they're also making me doubt how symmetrical the head is :')
This is a rough sketch of my pattern does it look good? Should I simplify or emphasize certain details so they don’t get lost in the fur? (I plan to shave the face down quite a bit to show the smaller details like the whiskers and eye marks.)
And should I separate my pieces like in the first picture or should I keep them together by fur color? I’m worried that if I separate the white pieces there will be a visible seam line since I’m new to sewing also also my base has a moveable jaw so should I keep the cheek and jaw in one piece instead of splitting them? (Second image has examples of alternate pattern)
(also I plan to airbrush/dry brush the black eye patterns and the purple accents on the fur, cuz I don’t have the confidence to cut and sew small intricate patterns in fur)
Sorry if this is a mess I didn’t want to make a million posts so I tried to condense all my questions into one post. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
While I'm waiting on paint to dry I was wondering.. what are flaws in fursuit making which are acceptable? From buyer and seller side, let's say I make paws and at the end when adding cuffs material slides in machine and they don't look perfectly smooth would you redo it (ripping machine seams is hell) or leave it as it is? Or beans not being the same shape, markings don't align, fur lenght not being the same on both sides, fur color not being the same shade (I have short n long white fur which has different color) etc. While those mistakes don't affect the use and is only visually imperfect
Hard to describe what I have exactly in mind tho when i received head with glued zipper in the back.. like c'mon
they always seem way to big, even after I've glued them down
Option A is to build a full fur face with a 1/4 inch foam based snoot and have it zip into a hoodie made out of the same fur but I'm not sure if that'll look weird or not
Option B is just fursuit eyes like how some kigus have ones that come down over your face a bit and also pair it with my neoprene muzzle
Option C is no face, just a cozy hoodie modeled after my sona, but I kind of want to feel a bit more like a cartoon character
Material is frocked fur and sona is an orange and white dog with a bowtie
Also, on a tangentially related note, what material should I use to line it?
