Separation Anxiety

Hi there! I’m new to the community, and new to my lil’ English Setter Mylo. He’s 4mo. He’s a little happy go lucky guy who loves to play and loves being around people. He is slightly hard of hearing but can hear certain tones and we’re learning how to communicate with him on his level. He’ll follow us from room to room and is just excited to see everything we’re doing. And eating. Especially eating. 😅

I’ve had 3 dogs prior, all mixes from the animal shelter in the past. We still have a black lab who is 7. He tolerated Mylo but isn’t exactly enthused that we brought a baby into the house.

My question - Mylo has pretty bad separation anxiety. If we put him in his crate, even for 5 mins, he just absolutely freaks out. He can’t be alone for even a few minutes. Is this common in setters? Our other dogs were never excited to see us go, but when we did they’d kinda just shrug and go lay down until we came back.

Mylo won’t have it. He just cries and cries and howls until we come back. I know he’s still a puppy so that probably plays into this, but even our other puppies didn’t seem to struggle with this.

I’d love to know if there are any tips or best practices out there for any other setters that might be similar? Thanks in advance!

Bed wetting

I’ve had a few puppies in my life and never one that pees in its sleep. This is an 8 wk old male Llewellin peeing in its sleep. Short of taking his water away before bed time what am I to do since he does it mid day during a nap also. Is this something to worry about? I’d imagine he will grow out of it.

Any Groomer Recommendations in Southern California?

I've been to three different groomers around the Los Angeles area, and it doesn't seem like any of them have an idea of what an English Setter should be cut like. Two of them just wanted to know what length to shave him down to (meaning full body shave, all one length) and one left all the hair on his head long because they thought it was cute. I disagree, and think he looks like Einstein when his head hair grows out.

I'm way out of my element when it comes to this type of thing, so I'm not sure what to tell them about how to cut it. I'm wondering if there is a groomer, or is there a certain level of groomer that would be familiar with a less common breed, and what a more appropriate style of cut would be.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have on a specific groomer, or just a better way to guide them.
