"I love when my friends have their fridges covered in Polaroids. It’s often a visual crash course of what’s been going on in their lives chronicling recent adventures, get-togethers, and other fun moments. But I don’t love the idea of schlepping around a clunky instant camera or paying a premium for instant film with hit-or-miss results. That’s why I’m infatuated with these magnetic digital Polaroids from a small company called VidaBay. They look like instant photos, but use NFC tech and color E Ink screens so you can change the image as often as you want without ever having to charge a battery."
I just got one of these hoping to give it for mother's day but I can't get the display to update. I am able to transfer the image pretty reliably now but it seems to fail on the "refreshing" stage.
What a great technology - infinite photoframe!
I absolutely love it.
Was waiting for them to arrive for around 2 months
(the package has been sent to "billing address" instead of "shipping address").
Now i can proudly say - they're Real!
To transfer picture to device it needs precise positioning. I found a trick for alignment. Magnet comes with sticker. And i cut out positioning frame from that sticker, so you’ll have a an example how to connect it with your phone, until you’ll not need it.
Ordered a few of these things direct from the website several weeks ago. Couldn't really find any legit-looking reviews, seemed sketchy at best, but... I wanted to believe!
Well it just arrived. Took it out of the box, tried it with my iPhone Air and... failed. Half way through trying to send the photo over NFC, it failed. Several times in a row.
I almost gave up on it, but then I looked more carefully at the instructions and tried a different position (diagonal, positioned on top of the iPhone Air's camera bump, squeezed tightly, hold very still, sometimes do it twice in a row), and... IT WORKED!
And it looks GOOD! (for a "magic polaroid" that updates itself with no batteries by just touching it to a phone!)
I'm kinda shocked actually. Apple/Amazon/Snap/Meta should buy and mass produce this, it would sell like CRAZY.
I know this post totally sounds like an ad, but it's not, I'm real, google me 😉
Great work Vidabay! The app and transfer process definitely needs a LOT more work still, but you've shipped a genuinely magical little device and I am extremely happy with it.
p.s. Vidabay, please DM me now with that 20% discount code so I can order a bunch more of these for holiday gifts 😄
Just received my 3 pack. I love them! However one had a horizontal line at the bottom and a vertical one on the left side after transferring my first photo. I tried different photos and a plain white background.
