Let's help our neighbors.

This a special exception made to our normal rule of no non Lansing related posts. This has mod approval. As I am sure many have heard by now. The Village in East Lansing, suffered a devastating fire. Forty plus people lost their homes, and everything in them. If you are looking to and can help here are a list of places that are accepting donations, they do not have to be monetary. But some of the things that they are looking for are things like clothes for all genders, both new and gently used, and things like hygiene products. Some places where donations can be made to are the Red Cross and the also the leasing office of Block 36.

Stolen bike from TJ. PSA: no CCTV on their bike rack.

My Felt B12 was stolen from Trader Joes on May 12th. If you see if let me know. I built it myself so it's super obvious that it's mine. Attach some pics of the equipment that I installed.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on when it’ll be safe to get warm weather plants in the ground this month?

I’ve got tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, basil, marigolds, and nasturtiums getting big in my basement grow tent (squash have already started flowering) and I’m anxious to get them in the ground before they outgrow their cups.

I know 30-day forecasts aren’t always terribly accurate but based on https://www.myforecast.com/30-day-forecast.php it seems like starting May 11 lows will be pretty consistently above 50 degrees.

I know growth will be slow since the soil will still be pretty cool, and I’m fine with that.

Thoughts on when it’d be safe to transplant?

East Lansing proposes cuts to police oversight, human rights commissions

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The city of East Lansing is proposing $40,000 in budget cuts for its Independent Police Oversight and Human Rights commissions, a move drawing concern from some community leaders.
The budget proposal would cut $42,000 from the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission (ELIPOC) and $2,000 from the Human Rights Commission (HRC).
The agenda item report for the 2027 preliminary budget explains the cuts by saying they were to funds that had been budgeted for previous years but not used. However, ELIPOC Vice Chair Kath Edsall says it’s not just about the money.

“That was retaliatory. To pull our funding is retaliatory,” Edsall said. “This city manager has been embarrassed by human rights commissioners and independent police oversight commissioners coming forward, speaking out publicly against the actions of this police chief.”

What is it?

My dad and I were at The Graduate and while walking to the car on Albert Ave we came across this cube of metal and hadn’t the slightest clue what it’ll ultimately become. Can someone fill me in please?

Adult beginner swim classes

Does anyone know if there are any adult beginner swim classes in the East Lansing, Haslett, Okemos area? MSU lists one but there is no information. This is for a young adult who had learned to swim as a small child but has not swum since, so might have some swimming skills. Thanks.

Hello! I am moving out of the state soon and have been working on downsizing my closet and basic household items. What are some good organizations that would accept womens clothing? I also have items like pots and pans and an air fryer that I would love to donate to someone who needs it rather than take it to Goodwill.

I won’t drop what apartment complex we live at but I will say it’s not owned by DTN. Our AC unit broke April 1st. They had a company come in to fix it. Still wasn’t fixed so maintenance came in a couple times after that. Didn’t say anything about it, didn’t send us an email or anything. Still not working. We talked to the front office and apparently they need to replace the whole unit. No updates or anything for a month and they didn’t give us a portable unit. We live on the third floor and it has been freakishly cold and very hot on the warm days.

Went in a week and a half ago to ask about it. They go “Yeah the whole unit needs to be replaced, we are getting quotes for a new one. There’s a list of units that need replacements but you are towards the top.” I asked for a portable unit and they said they would make a note. Still no portable unit. Still no update on a new unit.

My roommate went in today and they said that maintenance ignored their text about getting us a portable unit. It’s going to start getting warm out soon.

I’m getting really agitated. I’m genuinely really chill about living conditions and we don’t make a fuss about much. AC is something I don’t play about though, especially paying $1,600 a month for rent.

Has anyone else has an experience with this? I don’t know if there is anything I can do about it. I don’t think AC is a necessity item for renting but maybe I should look through the lease. Don’t know if I might be able to push for getting money off our rent?
