Will this 50mm hole saw clear this conference table, or do I need a different approach?
I’m installing 2-inch (50mm) desk grommets in the middle of a conference room table for cable management to get cat6 to a conference room phone.
Looking at the depth of the hole saw vs. the thickness of the tabletop (see photo), it looks like the table is thicker than the saw’s internal depth. I'm worried about the saw "bottoming out" before it reaches the other side.
Has anyone dealt with this specific depth issue on heavy conference tables?
If I drill until it stops, clear the plug with a chisel, and keep going—is that the move? Or should I drill a pilot hole all the way through and finish the cut from the bottom?
Any tips for avoiding massive splintering/blowout on the underside of a finished table like this?
Appreciate any advice on how to best get this done and if it’s feasible. Thank you!
