Do not fall asleep with YouTube autoplay on

I realize this is my fault for not whitelisting channels. (Which I found out you can do today by reading someone else's comment, because I don't use YouTube on an app, just the TV) But I digress.

My son really enjoys long-form drone footage of tractors harvesting wheat fields. It's quiet and peaceful and he will drive his toy tractors along with the video playing on the TV and pretend he's harvesting too.

WELL, about 2 weeks ago the peaceful sounds of agriculture lulled me to sleep, and while I was asleep, the video ended. And waiting for me on autoplay was an atom bomb called Hudson's Playground, and my 3-year-old was instantly addicted.

The videos themselves are relatively innocent and the dad in the videos obviously loves his kid very much. Hudson doesn't behave badly or anything. There's definitely worse channels out there. It's just, something about Hudson's dad giggling while grossly misusing expensive farm equipment gets on every last one of my nerves.

Here's the gist of several videos I can remember off the top of my head:

- driving a tractor into a pit filled with millions of orbeez (horrible for the environment as they are made of polymers that do not biodegrade)

- racing go-carts, but they've covered the seats with ranch dressing

- using farm equipment to destroy expensive ride-on toys that don't have anything wrong with them

- trying an MRE and gagging after they try every component

Those are just the most annoying ones to me. The other ones are just general goofing off around the farm, driving vehicles into mud to get them stuck, making a giant water balloon, etc.

My kid has taken to getting pissed at me because we don't have a million orbeez, or a giant water balloon, or a monster truck. And asking me "when is Hudson coming over?". Wtf. This is my first/only kid and I've never had to deal with annoying children's content before.

He's mostly forgotten about Hudson in the last few days, thank god, because my dumb ass doesn't learn and I fell asleep again, and this time Handyman Hal came on autoplay. Which is pretty annoying in and of itself (the Awesome Song sends me to a dark place) but at least Handyman Hal is using the farm equipment correctly.

At least he hasn't been exposed to the Russian-Floridian child exploitation genre (which I also just learned about today) 😭

Skillsville returning?

Watching PBS kids and they are showing previews for skillsville again. It was one of my daughter's favorites and she was sad they removed all episodes from pbs kids app.

Handyman Hal Live Show - Charmingly Amateur

My wife bought tickets for my son to see Handyman Hal live, since he was a fan of the character (I'd weaned him off of Blippi by repeatedly "accidentally" switching to Handyman Hal and then misplacing the remote). The show was... interesting. Since we usually watch very random characters, I don't know which of them were supposed to be commonly recurring ones, but in general, it feels like a lot of people take advantage of Hal and his good nature ($80 car washes? A $25 bolt?) but nothing ran terribly long. Then, there was the production.

There were no big set pieces. The choreography was simple. Things like Hal driving a tractor on-stage visibly showed him pushing it forward with one foot. It felt a bit like it could have been a community theatre production. Which, honestly, suits the character, although it also made me think about how much the tickets cost compared to what we got. My kid loved it, though, which makes it all worthwhile.

Ultimately, it does make me wonder where the character of Handyman Hal ends, and the actor of Shawn Goins begins. My understanding was that he made up the character during the pandemic, and that it's not far from his regular persona as a youth pastor, although I'm sure it's a bit exaggerated. Not like Earnest P. Worrell where Jim Varney was a trained stage actor who just happened to find a goofy character that went over well, and stuck with it.

Anyone else seen the stage show, and have thoughts?

OT: Is there an equivalent sub to DanielTigerConspiracy for the various children toys?

I just opened a Polly Pocket Cat thing and it shot confetti out everywhere. That's a first.

I'd also like to meet some of the upper management at VTech >!in the octagon!<

Amazon Prime full of slop now?

I was looking to turn on Daniel Tiger and saw a bunch of YouTube slop shows on Prime. Was this always the case and I just didn't see it or have they expanded their collection?

SFW: Who are your top childhood crushes?

I'm 23, on the autism spectrum. I had a crush on The Queen of Trash from Elmo in Grouchland, Linda Gunderson from Rio, Rapunzel from Tangled, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Giselle from Enchanted, and Christina Hendricks (in general). These were my childhood crushes.

Weird advertisement on DannyGo YouTube page??

I was pulling up a video on my phone for my son to watch for a quick distraction while we clipped toe nails, and this was the advertisement that popped up when I went directly to the channel. I only use this YouTube account to watch kid videos for my son or my kindergarten class so the algorithm failed us today.

The ice market in Arendelle

Kristoff sold ice for a living before OG Frozen. The opening of the movie has a whole bunch of people harvesting ice, which suggests a number of people rely on selling ice for their livelihood.

What happens to them after the events of Frozen? Is it ethical for Elsa to make her subjects keep paying for ice when she can easily provide an unlimited amount for free? Is she withholding a resource she can freely provide in order to prop up the business of her sisters boyfriend?

Or is she bringing devastation to an entire community and way of life if she provides ice for her subjects and lets the entire ice industry fail because of her magic?

I hope Frozen 3 answers these important questions.

I know it starts with an “S”, but WTF? The circled item in the second image is also concerning.

These are from the picture book Animalia by Graeme Base. Each page is based on a letter of the alphabet, with a painting containing animals and objects that start with the same letter. I was having fun trying to find all the objects hidden in the pictures, but then I came across these and wondered what the hell the author was thinking. I could be overthinking things with the newt picture, but what do you guys think?

Nobody could think of an H word?

This Disney word puzzle includes the hallucinatory elephants from Dumbo as the letter H. Which is lazy AND nightmare fuel. Couldn’t they use the Hound from Fox and the Hound, or Happy the dwarf? How am I supposed to explain alcohol poisoning to my kids? Or those racist crows?

There’s a trend I heard, of parents showing their children quality kids shows from their own childhoods. How many of y’all will introduce your kids to Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Paw Patrol Joke

My kids are always asking me to tell them a joke, and usually it is supposed to be themed (i.e. pokemon joke, kitty cat joke, etc.). If your child also wants the same thing, then here is a Paw Patrol joke you can use that I came up with tonight.

Why was Skye the last pup to join the Paw Patrol?

Because the Skye's the limit.

Does Josh season his food with Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper and their seasoning children?

And if Josh from Blue’s Clues does, does using them slowly kill them? Like if he uses too much Paprika to make chicken paprikash does Paprika go meet the great spice cabinet in the sky?
