Hello,

I was wondering if there is any car electrician here experienced in old VWs of 90’s era that might help me.

I’m currently restoring my ‘91 Corrado and got to the crispy wiring that I need to replace(most of the wires in the car are 35 years old after all, so I will end up replacing altoghether)
I have the entire schematics and I know how to crimp terminals, also have the right tools for the job, my question is regarding the terminals themselves.

I have the female Bosch style terminals that clip into the plugs, however, I don’t seem to be able to crimp correctly any wire above 1.5mm2(15-16AWG). When I try 2.5mm2(13-14 AWG) the crimp is not folding the terminal completely, it just feels like there is not enough metal to cover the wire strands. Insulation is fine since I use FLRY anyways, si the overall diameter is closer to 1.5mm2(15-16AWG) , but the actual conductor seems way too big for the terminal.

The first pic is the original crimp on a 2.5mm2, the second one is what i manage to do on a 2.5mm2, and the third is what it looks like on a 0.5mm2 wire using the same tool (obviously smaller crimp, but same pattern)

Are there different terminal size(only the crimp side) with the same plug dimenstions or am I just going mental?
