After 7000 games, here is my conclusion

I've played almost 7000 games of Colonist and can confidently say this game is unfairly made.

People tend to think the dice rolls are what is rigged, but I think it is more likely a subtle combination of which development cards are drawn and when 7's get rolled, specifically.

AMA - My name is DudeNolann! Host of the 1v1 Titans Tournament and currently ranked #6 in the world, ask me anything!

Hey! I've noticed a lot of people have been posting stuff about 1v1 recently, so I wanted to do an AMA to see if there's any interest in this type of post. I have a YouTube that features high level 1v1 content, and I do my best to try to grow the 1v1 scene!

What rank could you say that you are 'good' at catan?

This is a gold lobby and I honestly have no clue what some of these guys were doing.. Started learning catan a few weeks ago so I'm wondering how competitive this game can really get

Guess who won

blue was on 6 when the rest of us were on 3, they were obviously robbed on every 7 but unlucky to not have a lot of 6s rolled in the end I sneaked a win with army.

Question about the Seasons

What happens if you go back to a previous season and play a game? Any purpose doing that? Why do we have access to previous seasons? Just so we can go back and see how we did?

Mainly curious about playing games in previous seasons. Assuming it just adds a game to your games played and affects win %, is that it?

How does rating actually works?

Please, can somebody explain why there is such a big difference? The win rate is higher, the total number of games is the same, but there’s almost a 300-point difference.

This just isn’t fun

27-0 in blocked resources, 8-1 in 7s. Wish there was a 4 player mode that didn’t take 45 minutes a game.

Irrational players

This game is so hit or miss. Just played a game of C&K where I used a deserter on a player early on. He targeted me for the rest of the game - I wasn’t even in the lead. We ended up getting steamrolled by one player who was in the lead the whole game and should have received every block that I did (about half a dozen). Oh yeah, the player that was blocking me all game came in 2nd…had he blocked off of gameplay and not his own emotions, he could have won the game. I don’t get it. Out of all the video games I’ve played in my life, I’ve never seen a community worse than colonist. Players willing to sacrifice their own chances at winning just to be petty against another player. This is just one instance of this happening, it’s happened many times to me and I’ve seen it happen to others too. Smack talk in the chat. Bad, doomsday like attitude from some players. Kingmaking. I’ve reported far more colonist players than players from other games I play. Why is this community so god awful???

Colonist.io - No ethics in this camp.

The game is thoroughly rigged. If you start getting ahead the first thing that happens is the dice start forgetting your numbers on the board exist. Then you will start rolling a statistically impossible number of sevens. This is just two of the 30 odd examples of their cheating code. Their cheating programming takes all the fun out of the game. You end up playing against the programmers rather than your foe. This is not baseless. I've documented the cheats.

Forced portrait mode - what about tablet users?

I play mainly on my tablet with a physical keybloard to be able to chat more quickly, but it only works in landscape mode as part of a case. The announcement that the android app will be forced intp portrait mode ruins that for me, is there no possibility for me to be able to choose?

How to trade only 1 resource in app

I don't know if I'm being an idiot, but with the new auto select for trading resources, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to offer ONE of something to another player. It always autoselects four, and if I click on it again, it just deselects everything. Help!

All blocked together

This was my craziest game, everyone blocked and got block from another.

When does Catan table talk cross the line?

I just got out of a game and I’m still annoyed so I need opinions 😭

Everything was going normal until I got Largest Army and jumped to 6 points, but everyone else was still close so it’s not like I was running away with it.

Then one player starts telling the other two what to do to go for Longest Road so I wouldn’t get it. The thing is… Longest Road wasn’t even on my radar. I was literally boxed into a corner with no realistic way to even get it anytime soon. I had a completely different plan for my next few turns.

Anyways, the other player listens, gets Longest Road takes the lead by like 2-3 points and the same person who was orchestrating that then blocks one of my hexes and steals from me.

So I move the robber right back onto them and steal same exact thing they did to me. Then he says I'm “being salty”???

Then they go “focus on someone else, they’re winning,” which is wild because… they literally just told that person to get Longest Road and put them in the lead 😭

They also accused me of lying about not going for Longest Road, which made zero sense because I physically didn’t even have the board position to do that.

I said something like “it’s not fun when one person is trying to orchestrate the whole game,” and after that it basically turned into a 2v1 in chat. This person and another color (that wasn't in the lead) started calling me childish and a bunch of other. It completely killed the vibe.

What really got me is they kept placing the robber on me after that, but when I did it back it was suddenly a problem??

At that point I lowkey just wanted someone else to win because the game wasn’t even fun anymore.

So I’m curious...

Is this just normal Catan politics, or do y’all also find it annoying when one person tries to control how everyone else plays (especially when their logic doesn’t even add up)?

Where would you settle?

I’m black. Red snagged only good brick spot. I feel that brick/wood are more important in 1v1 than 4v4, so I really try to get good brick/wood. That being said, I got absolutely MURKED in this game. Where would yall have settled if you were black and placing back to back?

u/JoeB_111 — 6 days ago

Dumbest decision

I am the black; I could have easily won taking longest road but I made a dumb move of wanting to turn my 4-9-11 to a city and lost the game the next round, have you guys ever made such a mistake where you were close and due to an err in judgement you lost a game? 🙆🏽

What’s the point of going for neither devs nor road?

I just finished a game in which one player rushed to an early road, giving them 6 points while everyone else had 3 or 4 points. Not soon after they managed to get a city, increasing their tally to 7 points.

I would have assumed that at this point everyone else would either buy devs or try to contest road to stop that player from just running away with it.

But that didn’t happen. I was the only one buying devs and the other two were just slowly building up, as if they had all the time in the world.

In the end, I managed to win the game by getting arms and two vps from devs, but it was a close call.

I still don’t understand what the other two were doing. I feel like if you buy zero devs and don’t go for road either, you are pretty much capped at 8 points. You almost never win that way.
