As many of you know, Hillary Clinton ran official State Department business on a private(at her home), unsecure email server, using an illegal private email address for official govt business, during her time as Secretary of State. This violated longstanding State Department policies (per the department’s own Inspector General report). If you or I did the same thing we’d be in prison.

The FBI later recovered 110 emails containing classified information (including some at the Top Secret level) from the 30,000 she turned over. However, roughly 33,000 other emails were deleted by her team and never recovered.

According to the FBI’s own investigative files:

• In late March 2015 (after the House Benghazi Committee had already subpoenaed the emails), a Platte River Networks technician deleted the Clinton email archive from the server.

• He then used BleachBit (a free open-source program designed to securely shred files and make recovery extremely difficult) to wipe the exported .PST files.

• Around the same time, backups on a third-party cloud service (Datto) were also manually deleted.

The FBI ultimately concluded there was no clear evidence the deletions were done specifically to hide classified material(sure we believe that 🤷‍♂️). Then FBI Director James Comey publicly stated in July 2016 that while Clinton and her team were “extremely careless,” and “no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges.” The Department of Justice took no action, and did not “bring charges.”

Fast forward to the Anthony Weiner laptop:

In October 2016, the FBI discovered that Clinton aide Huma Abedin’s laptop (shared with her then-husband Anthony Weiner) contained hundreds of thousands of emails, many of them Clinton related.

Comey notified Congress and said the FBI would review them. In his November 6 letter, he stated they had reviewed the relevant communications and their conclusions hadn’t changed.

However, later oversight reports and declassified materials (including from Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office) have raised serious questions about how thorough that review actually was. Some accounts indicate the FBI only conducted a limited review of a small fraction(4,000) of the emails rather than a full forensic examination of the entire set (despite Comey testifying that they did a full examination). This matters because the laptop reportedly contained thousands of Clinton emails that were never part of the original 30,000 deleted emails. It’s SHOCKING.

It’s just another chapter in what many see as a deeply flawed and inconsistent investigation. Aka: a disgusting cover-up.
