r/Civic_Type_R

One week in with the Type R. I don't think I'm going back.
I had a GR Corolla before this and loved it, but the Type R is just better to drive. More communicative, more composed at the limit, and the steering actually tells you something. The GRC felt a little blunt by comparison, which I didn't fully notice until I drove the Civic back to back.
The other thing nobody talks about enough: the back seat is actually usable. I've got a kid now and fitting a car seat in the GRC was a whole thing. The Type R has real room back there. Still a hot hatch, just one where you don't have to apologize to your passengers.
Finally saw a yellow FL5 Type R. Now I have seen all the colors
Type R vs STI?
I bought an FL5 last year in December and I loved the car, never had a sports car before so it felt amazing (and still does). However, I purchased a 2009 WRX with 57k miles as a daily and the damn thing is more fun and sounds better than my FL5 , just not as fast in the top end.
So now I’m thinking, WRX is fun, I’ve never had an STI, is that gonna be more fun than an FL5 ? Looks wise FL5 always wins, I just don’t know if I like the boxer engine and AWD better now 😭
Anyone with experience with both types (STi and type R) can tell me their opinion. Thank you!
Saclam exhaust finally installed!
Finally got around to installing the Saclam exhaust on our FL5! It truly is a beautiful exhaust system, and we wanted to share it with the community.
It's OEM+ at idle and at lower RPMs, but once around 5k, it sounds amazing!
I was shopping around for around 10 months for an exhaust, and my heart was set on the Salcam. The craftsmanship is truly something to admire. Too bad the diffuser covers the mufflers.
Can't believe I was stupid enough to pass up such a deal......🙄
Driving through a small town in central Indiana I found a twin!
Idk if the owner is on here or not, if it was the dude inside looking at me like WTF I had to stop and take a Pic. I like your car whoever you are
Finally started driving my FL5. Did a proper wash, paint correction, and ceramic coating.
I bought this thing brand new in Jan-2026. I asked the dealership NOT to clean it up before delivering it.
I then let it sit in my garage for months lol.
Recently started driving it...so deciced to clean it up.
Clean!
Love cleaning my car! 😁
I highly recommend applying Yum Foam+ after washing the car. Very easy to apply and leaves the car very slick. 👍
PRL go tsutsutsu
Finally got around to installing my PRL Titanium Turbo Inlet and Intake. Def feels like the car pulls a little harder and you can finally hear the turbo.
Lug nut recommendations
I am looking for some nicer lug nuts for my summer setup. if anyone here is running aftermarket lug nuts I need help finding some good ones! also, is it important to get closed end or is open ok? thanks!
Need help if this set of wheels and tires will fit
I am picking up my 2017 type R next week and I am looking to replace the stock 20" wheels with 18" wheels.
The fitment calculator on every website thinks that it can only fit 20" wheels so they're unreliable. I don't know if these wheels will fit: https://wheelsco.ca/products/entusets5mabr?variant=47313780310268&country=CA¤cy=CAD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOoqYF9mDdgCxnd4PXiQ1uCZzixSwppulDjv9G2CGUm8uPCbkajUlXko
Also I am looking to buy Yokohoma apex v601 in 265/35/18. Will it fit without any rubbing?
Thanks :)
Best milage to buy 2019-2021 type r
Looking to get a 2019-2021 type r in the uk and assuming you generally want a lower mileage one [60k or less] was wondering if there is a sweet spot for mileage to balance price without being about to hit a point where work is likely to be needing done.
What points have people found they have to have stuff done?
