CENSUS - Query
"Yes, in Canada, individual census records containing full names, personal identities, and detailed personal information are released to the public 92 years after the census is taken. These records are transferred from Statistics Canada to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) for public access. [1, 2, 3]"
I keep reading the census data is anonymized, but clearly they are keeping the data tied to one's personal identity for many decades to come.
How do you feel about that?
Also, if the census is about providing alleged services for various communities, why not merely ask the residents to full out a quick survey expressing their desires about which services they would most like to see and/or see improved? Profiling residents with all kinds of invasive questions doesn't seem the right way to go about it.
My area has been selected as a testing ground for a new census. Estimated completion time is forty (40) minutes and a response is "required by law". Given the length of time required to complete it, I can only imagine how invasive the questions will likely be.
All answers are "confidential", but given the recent DOGE data breeches of our personal information, I am very leery of disclosing much beyond the bare minimum, as you can imagine.
Should I refuse to complete the questionnaire, a representative could be summoned to my abode for in-person information collection. At the moment, I am considering only answering questions I'm comfortable with, but beyond that, I'm reluctant to divulge intimate details of my existence.
What is the best way to respond to this situation?
The Census--what was the length for you?
Just like everyone else we got the letter in the mail and filled it out online. Normally I've done it for our family but this year my husband did it for us and helped his parents complete theirs.
Through convo with his cousins he realized ours only took like 5 mins and so did his parent's and he was able to submit and get a confirmation code and everything. His cousins' ones took over an hour and and detailed questions about the length of their commute to work and other things.
From my own past experience census has always taken me close to an hour or more and there has always been a lot of questions.
My husband is thoroughly confused, he's pretty confident he only got very basic questions like how many people in the household etc., I feel like he likely somehow skipped everything but he's pretty adamant that's not possible. Was anyone else's this short?
If not we're going to try to look into what went wrong and what the error could be.
Guide me with Census please.
Hey guys, this is my first time hearing about Census and I heard that we all are supposed to do it. I didn't receive any mailed paper for the questionnaire so I'm not sure how to do it.
I am a pgwp holder, am I still counted? If so please guide me on how I can access the questionnaire. Thank you.
Can I just not do the ACS survey?
I’m told by law I need to give personal information. Could I just not do it?
Anyone else feel the questions are invasive? They were very personal and I’m uncomfortable.
Are participants who are sent the ACS 100% randomly selected, or is there a pool of participants within certain criteria?
A little background information is needed for this post, so I was born from a relationship of my mom and some dude at her college, but he got her pregnant and wanted nothing to do with it, so and later my mom married my dad (non biological) when I was about 1 year old. My mom and my are both white Americans with a few Pennsylvania Dutch traditions, and that's how I've been raised Flash forward to a few years ago when I took a test, and I found out that I'm a quarter West Asian (Turkish and Iranian). Should I check off White and MENA on the next census or should I just check White? I want to respect both my parents, not biological one, but I also feel that it might be more accurate to also put MENA to acknowledge my entirety. Lmk what you guys think
