McMaster Eng or UofT Mineral engineering (but potentially transfer), also get ready for a yap

Hey guys I’m currently having a lot of trouble deciding between these options right now and feel super lost and was hoping for some insight from you guys.

I’m have sort of created a pros and cons to both options but need more advice and opinions.

Uoft

Pros:

\\- a more reputable school for engineering internationally and in Canada

\\- Cheaper, as I can live at home so likely around 17k for first year

\\- Less debt if at all any

\\- Likely an easier time getting a job in the US

Cons:

\\- I would have to try to switch after first year but for that I would need a 80%+ to switch which is likely difficult to achieve first year

\\- Having to commute every day about 30 mins there and back

\\- Miss out on dorm life though not sure if the experience is worth an extra 15k a year minimum

McMaster

Pros:

\\- more likely to get electrical engineering (my top choice) though not guaranteed

\\- Get to experience dorm life

\\- More flexible co-op

\\- still pretty reputable

Cons:

\\- No grantee of my choice for Eng

\\- Extra debt due to residence likely end up around 40-60k on debt

\\- A bit harder to get opportunities in the US

Future international student school decisions

Im a caribbean student(trini) figuring out where to go as theres little architecture opportunities here in the caribbean and i have no interest in uwi usc utt etc, I had looked at the best schools to go to and canada showed up with ubc and mcgill and I couple others i lowk wanted to go to america to study when I was younger but given the current political climate I am absolutely not going there i like myself alot!

Im writing csec this year and going to do cape, I did mock exams and got all 1s and a 2 in maths (which can change) so im not too worried for csec besides maths im doing an extra subject and have good ecs like a journalism course and whatever else I did in the 5 years at my secondary school

When I looked at ubcs req it said social, maths, art, and English and i have a 99 p2 56 p1 in English, 97 p2 55 p1 social and art my journal is completed and I did all 6 pieces already and maths is a work in progress w 74 p2 and 48 p1. (But im doing 3 other classes rn and theyre all 90%+) and im still gonna apply to US schools cs i hv alot of family there and ill probably take the SATS if needed but I really would like to not go there atm.. and it doesnt looked like it'll get better in the next two years

I looked at the ubc subreddit and lowk scared myself a bit and idk if ubc is right for me tution was my main problem but now im seeing that student life is dead and I hearing that abt mcgill aswell.

I dont know where else to apply and europe is on my back up list I saw a good school in the UK(i think im Manchester) and the UK has good opportunities for caribbean students but I only hear that about nursing.

I still have 2 whole years of cape to do but I wanna figure this out way before and have alot of backups

I really did like ubc tho but also Vancouver is hella expensive and I didnt have much interest in learning some French for mcgill but I will if I have too any other recs??? Uoft was also on my list but its the highest tution out of the 3.

Sorry if this sounds annoying as hell btw literally atp idk what else to do also istg guidance does gatekeep these kinda of things like nbdy does go aboard anymore.

SFU or McMaster? What should I pick?

Hi, I am currently torn between which school to pick for university. I am mainly between McMaster and SFU, both for business.

My current dilemmas are:

Reputation: I know Mac has a better reputation than all, but how much does that matter?

I liked the feel of Mac (I've done campus tours of all, fortunately), it gave a better feel that was more comforting, whereas SFU felt colder and from what I've heard, is more depressing.

Location: I like the location of SFU better, as it's in Burnaby and closer to Vancouver and such. I also like the weather in Burnaby better in comparison to Hamilton. I prefer rain over snow and cold, and the views and environment of Burnaby felt like it fit me better.

Social life: I want to have a good social life where I can hang out with friends and do activities. Not so much as going out every night, but I want to have a good student/social life. I’ve heard that there is no social life at SFU, and it's hard to make friends unless you already know ppl from hs, whereas I've heard Mac has a pretty good social life and student events. I know Burnaby offers more stuff with restaurants, activities, malls and such, whereas I’ve heard Mac is a smaller city and doesn't have a lot to offer (is this true?)

Housing after first year: I know SFU has better housing options that are on campus, so it makes the commute very minimal and efficient, whereas Mac doesn't really have housing on campus, and you have to commute (I don't know how far)

Program: I’m not too picky with what program I do because, at the end of the day, I know I'm getting roughly the same education, but I know SFU Beedie is rising and is a slightly better business school than DeGroote whereras Mac has a better reputation and ranking overall. (true?)

Academic pressure: How bad is the academic pressure at both? I’ve heard Mac is a very academic school, but I don’t want to be under immense pressure. And what's it like at SFU?

Sorry for the long summary, but these are just my thoughts. What are your opinions/advice on each university, and kinda around those topics I brought up? I don’t know where I’ll fit better tbh. Again, SORRY for the long summary and thank you!

MUN Stipend

I’m an international student and have been offered admission into a masters at Memorial University in Newfoundland, CA. The annual stipend is 10.5k with TA. I’m not sure this is sufficient for living costs in the area.

If you live nearby and is a grad student, how do you handle your living expenses? Is this enough for one person?
