No Eggs
This is Calgary NW btw. Anyone else in Calgary able to buy eggs at their warehouse?
Does no one ever give a thank you wave while driving anymore???
I have lived in this city all my life and it use to be that people would always wave to say thank you for letting them merge into the lane. I honestly can't remember the last time I even saw it. I guess Calgary is just becoming less polite which makes me sad.
New waxwing bird flocks?
Lately I’ve been seeing these massive groups of birds showing off around the city. They swoop through the sky showing off like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
Finally got a quick picture with my camera, poor lighting so I brightened the photos to show the colours better. Does anyone know why they have shown up this year? I don’t think I’ve seen them here before.
Inspection of Bearspaw South Feeder Main starting this week
This week, The City of Calgary is conducting a proactive assessment of a section of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main running from the Bearspaw Water Treatment plant to the 33 Avenue N.W. pump station. This section of the pipe is made of steel and was not inspected at the same time as the Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) segments that were assessed in 2024.
The inspection will use a robotic PipeDiver, a tool that assesses pipe condition by measuring the thickness of the pipe walls using ultra sonic technology. The PipeDiver operates while the pipe is full of water. If all goes as planned, there will be no impact on water service in Calgary or the region, and no water restrictions will be required.
It will take approximately two hours for the device to “swim” the two-kilometre section of the pipe and collect data. The City will receive results in a month, which will inform future plans.
Water restrictions are not planned, but Calgarians are encouraged to stay prepared
Water restrictions are not anticipated during the robotic PipeDiver inspection. In the unlikely event we encounter issues, we may need to implement water restrictions for a brief period to lower demand until the feeder main is brought back into service.
We are asking people to stay prepared and follow local news, The City’s social media channels and calgary.ca for updates.
As we head into spring and summer, residents are also encouraged to consider purchasing a rain barrel to collect rainwater for yards and gardens as an alternative to using treated drinking water. The City’s rain barrel rebate program offers $50 back on eligible purchases. Details are available at calgary.ca/rainbarrel

Stay informed
We encourage Calgarians to stay informed and prepared by watching local news, following The City’s social media channels, downloading the Alberta Emergency Alert app and visiting calgary.ca for timely updates.
Migraine day?
Curious if anyone else is experiencing a migraine today? Not surprising with the weather and wind we've had. Currently getting the thing that affects my vision primarily.
To the Higher Ground Coffee Angel
Stopped in for a meeting this morning and ordered a fantastic coffee only to be told that someone had placed a fair amount of funds on the tab and paid for everyone’s coffee ☕️. What an amazing thing to do on a cold and snowy morning.
I just want to say “Thank you”. I will endeavour to pay it forward.
CPS RADAR UPGRADE??
Seems like the city is selling speed guns. are they upgrading to newer technology?
Dear Calgary MLAs…
Can you use some of the money that you’re siphoning off from our property taxes and patch the funking potholes on Deerfoot? And also so it lasts more than one season?

Transit is uncomfortable
Just needed to rant but have you guys been finding that the transit is getting more and more uncomfortable? You’re either packed like sardines trying to hold on to anything you can find to grab or you’re squished into the seats. The seats feel so tiny that anytime someone sits beside me I feel so squished that my back can’t even be straight and it ends up getting sore! I am an average sized person, probably on the smaller side so I can’t imagine what it feels like for taller people! Sometimes I regret taking a seat because I feel so squeezed between people.

open.spotify.comInglewood Bird Sanctuary
Hi all,
Does anyone know what the current conditions of the water are like at the Bird Sanctuary (ie. is the water still mostly frozen over?) I’m going birding with a small group this week, and we are trying to decide where the best place to do our observations would be. If the water is quite frozen in Inglewood, we may go elsewhere.
I would go down to see for myself, but it would be a long drive into Calgary for just to check on conditions, and no one else in the group is currently able to do so. Thank you!

Public alert for potential measles exposure

Individuals who were in the following location during the specified date and time may have been exposed to measles:
**Location:
Rockyview General Hospital, Emergency Room
7007 14 St SW
Calgary
Exposure time periods:
April 4: 10:27 am – 6:17 pm (MST)**
Anyone who attended this location at any of these times, who was born in or after 1970 and has fewer than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine or has never had measles disease, may be at risk for developing measles and may be asked to take additional precautions if presenting to a healthcare facility. They should monitor for symptoms of measles and are strongly encouraged to review their immunization records.
Measles is an extremely contagious disease and the virus spreads easily through the air.
Symptoms of measles include:
Fever of 38.3° C or higher; and
Cough, runny nose and/or red eyes; and
A rash that appears 3 to 7 days after fever starts, usually beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs. The rash appears red and blotchy on lighter skin colours. On darker skin colours, it can appear purple or darker than the skin around it, or it might be hard to see.
If symptoms of measles do develop, individuals are advised to stay home and call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 before visiting any healthcare facility or provider, including a family physician clinic or pharmacy.
Measles vaccine is highly effective at preventing infection and complications. In Alberta, measles vaccine is offered, free of charge, through Alberta’s publicly funded immunization program. The recommended schedule for measles immunization is two doses, the first at one year of age and the second at 18 months.
If you think you have been exposed, and you are not protected against measles you may be able to receive immunization to reduce the risk of infection. A dose of vaccine needs to be given within 72 hours of exposure to prevent measles. Babies under one year of age, people with severely weakened immune systems, and those who are pregnant may be able to receive immunoglobulin within six days of exposure to prevent disease. Call the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434 for more information if these situations apply to you or your family.
Albertans uncertain of their, or their child’s immunization history, can check eligibility and/or book an appointment by calling the measles hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
Individuals who are 14 years of age and older can also check their immunization history using My Health Record. You can also text 'Measles' to 88111 to get measles health information texted to your mobile device.

What is it like to live in a homeless shelter in Calgary?
My relative is on the verge of homelessness. He has been living in a dingy, bed bug infested motel in Calgary for the last 2 years. He kept all of his issues hidden as long as he could, but long story short, he's an alcoholic, has effed up his brain from it, plus he has some other health issues. he claims to have not drank for the last 3 months but i don't believe him.
He is about to turn 60 years old and has nothing left. He has alienating himself from all other friends and family, our parents are dead and we have no other siblings. His EI ran out in January and I have been paying his rent and sending him groceries since. I've been paying his cell for 4 years.
In March I told him that's it, no more, he has to figure his shit out. He was banking on his tax return to float him a few more months but it hasn't shown up yet so of course he begged for April rent. I paid it but again said that's it. I gave him links to Income Support, and the Rent Assistance program through GOA. I suggested he go to his doctor and get connected to a social worker to find other long term supports but I doubt he will follow up on any of this and I will be forced to essentially get him thrown out of his motel when i don't pay his rent. I just cannot enable this behaviour anymore. A homeless shelter will be his next step.
Can someone please tell me what it's like to live in a homeless shelter in Calgary as a male? I need to mentally prepare myself for what he is facing. What are accommodations like? food? daily routine? how dangerous is it? Any advice?
