Why hatchbacks get dirty rear windows but sedans don’t

AeroJAX GitHub Repository - Drop a ⭐ if you find this kind of real-time CFD interesting

Real-time CFD comparison: sedan vs hatchback wake structures

The hatchback develops a much larger rear recirculation zone, which is one of the reasons hatchbacks tend to accumulate more dirt on the rear surface.

OBX CatBack Installed on My CT200h – First Impressions (No performance expectations)

Just installed an OBX cat-back exhaust on my CT200h and wanted to share some quick thoughts for anyone curious.

First off—this wasn’t about performance at all. I know this platform isn’t built for that, and I wasn’t expecting any gains. I just wanted something a little louder than stock to make the daily a bit more enjoyable.

So far, I’m actually pretty happy with it. The sound is deeper than stock and gives the car a nicer tone without being over the top. One of my biggest concerns going in was drone, but I’m not experiencing any so far, which is a huge plus.

Build quality seems solid for the price, and overall it feels like a good value. The only thing I’m still getting used to is the center-exit tip design—it sits right in the middle, kind of like the newer Civics. Didn’t love it at first, but it’s slowly growing on me.

For reference, the video attached is just the car parked and idling at light revs around 1,200 RPM to give an idea of the sound. I’ve only put about 40 miles on it so far, so I’m curious if the tone will deepen a bit over time. Also, excuse the transmission input damper noise in the clip.

Overall, I’d rate it around a 7.5–8/10 for what I was looking for. If you just want a slightly better sound without making the car obnoxious, this seems like a solid option.

Basically a CT-F at this point 🤭

The hottest, but slowest, hot-hatch on the road. 🐢

When I was a kid, I heard someone say the wheels make 80% of the look of a car - and I keep proving (to myself) that statement right, over and over. Crazy how the right set of wheels can transform the look of a car. Feels like I have a new car now.

Also, those 6 hours I spent paint-correcting, polishing, and ceramic coating were definitely worth it to bring this paint back to life. 🫟

OEM+ CT

Picked up these 18" wheels off the current-gen upper trim Corolla. Love the OEM+ look and sport-hatch proportions with these. Now it doesn't look like it needs 1" lowering springs - the wheels visually make it sit slightly lower.

MPG didn't drop at all - even gained a few. I did 38 MPG on the way to pick them up (91 miles one way), then mounted these wheels and did 42 MPG on the way back, though that was probably due to heavier traffic and me not pushing the car as hard.

Comfort: the car now handles potholes noticeably harsher, but feels a bit smoother on regular roads and highways (probably due to the different, softer tires).

  3. mpg screen on gauge cluster
  4. wheels

  6. grille

Rattle? Death rattle? What’s a normal rattle

Just bought a CT200h did my research on the battery, not on the head gasket issue if not I def would’ve shopped for a 2015 or newer
Got this 2012 with 116,000 miles 2 previous owners. Car looks in good condition but not I’m a little terrified from this sub that I’m on borrowed time.

Need advice on my car “issues”

So recently, I took my car (2016 CT200h) on a fairly decent road trip through small hills and climbs (100 miles 1 way) for a job opportunity. On the way there, my check engine light came on climbing a hill. Soon after the overheating light came on as well. I questioned why the hell it was doing that if I took it to Vegas (over 400 miles) a few months back and nothing popped up.

I stopped at an autozone when I reached my destination and said the coolant temp sensor was malfunctioning. I had no way of fixing it at that point so I just drove it back home.

Again, the check engine light and overheating light came back on again and when I got off the highway onto the streets, it turned off.

The next day, I checked under the hood and saw the coolant tank was bone dry. I checked for signs of leaks and found nothing that showed recent or old dried coolant in the engine bay, so I filled it back up thinking maybe that was the cause of the lights coming on.

Few days go by, no lights. Was driving a few miles a day, purely on the streets, so not much stress on the engine. Now, I took it for a bit of a longer ride and there it is, both of the lights on again. I checked the coolant tank again, but it was still full, no signs of it dipping.

I took it to my mechanic and he said, without even looking at the car, “ look man, I have worked on a lot of these cars, and when they came to me, I found out it was the head gasket.”

Now being on this forum since getting the ct, I knew this was a common and reccurrent problem.

I am asking to see if this is what happened anyone else, if they had a similar situation as me?
What did you guys end up doing? Replace the engine, or the head gasket? I know it’s roughly the same price.
I can’t sell the car cause I got utterly F***ED in the A** at the dealer charging me for a brand new car and needed on at the time, so I’m still paying it off.

90K service due

I have a 2011 CT200h that is due for the 90K service. What additional service should I do that is not part of the standard 90K service? Should I have them replace the EGR? Replace the transmission fluid? The previous owner had this car serviced at the dealership each time. There is a reputable Prius mechanic in my city, so I am contemplating using them instead of the dealer. Any opinions on if there is any value in continuing to go to the dealer?

Looking at buying a 2016–2018 Lexus CT200h and trying to understand the real-world risk of head gasket failure on the later models.

Looking at buying a 2016–2018 Lexus CT200h and trying to understand the real-world risk of head gasket failure on the later models.

For owners/mechanics:

- Have you seen head gasket failures on 2016 or 2017 CT200h? I'm trying to buy a 2018 model*

- At what mileage/km did it happen?

Trying to figure out whether the later years are genuinely safer than the 2011–2014 models.

Weekend Glow Up

Brother cleaned up my headlights and sprayed a clear on them, also painted my Tom’s lip (rep) and f sport wing and threw them on also. Pleased with results.

Headlight upgrade installed

The fact that this car didn't even come with LEDs as standard in 2014 is still mind boggling to me. I can finally see at night too.

Replaced sunroof seal, what a difference!

I was struggling with a rattle in the sunroof when tilted up, together with a loud wind noise when im driving on the highway. Yesterday i decided to replace the rubber seal i bought from Japan for 30 euros.

Now the windnoise on the highway is completely gone as well as the rattle! Took me only 45 mins together with siliconespray.

If you have a sunroof and experience the same, definitely recommend replacing it!

Got my first Lexus!

I got my first Lexus and I love it so far! It is 2013 model with 141000 miles on it. I got it for 6800. Did I get a decent deal out of it?

All LED lights, xenon headlights. I even changed the turn signals to LEDs.

17" Japan Racing wheels.

Front and rear window tinting + sun visor strip.

Black details on the handles and mirrors to match the roof.

It has 218,000 km and is from 2015, but the Alcantara interior is like new.

I'm thinking about painting the Brembo brake calipers red. What do you recommend?

Thanks everyone.

Note: Reddit deleted my original post because of the Carvana screenshot (wtf?) So instead here's my CT. You will have to go see the prices for yourself on CarMax and Caravana.

Original Post:

I’ve been stalking the used market for months trying to find the right deal, and jumped on a 2014 Fully Loaded F-Sport in early March.

The Specs:

63k miles

2 owners / No accidents

Extras: A sweet custom sound system/sub, fully tinted and new tires

Price: $19.5k

At first, I had some minor buyer's remorse feeling like $19.5k was a bit steep for a 12-year-old car, but I loved the spec and the condition was too good to pass up.

I’ve continued to keep a pulse on the market even after my purchase, and it is getting wild out there. In just the last week or so, I’ve seen prices jump another 15-20%. Finding even a base 2014 with no accidents and 80k miles for under $20k is becoming nearly impossible.

I’m definitely glad I trusted my gut and didn't wait any longer. If you’ve been on the fence about selling, it feels like right now is the absolute peak.. just look that Carvana screen shot from today!
