Got charged ₹8,000 for a tiny scratch on a rental bike — was I scammed?

I rented a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for a trip to Parashar Lake in Himachal. Before renting, I clearly told the owner that the round trip would be around 500 km. He said one day rental only included 250 km, so I had two options: either pay ₹8/km extra or rent the bike for another day.

Because of this, I rented the bike for 2 days even though I only traveled for 1 day. On the second day, the bike was just parked at my home and I didn’t ride it at all because I didn’t want to increase the kilometers further.

When I returned the bike, the owner pointed out a very tiny scratch (will attach pic) and charged me ₹8,000 for it. The scratch was extremely minor, and the amount feels completely unreasonable.

Has anyone else faced this kind of overcharging with bike rentals?

Ozark Trail G1 Explorer - Drop

Is this the bike that everyone is raving about? If so planning on picking up the medium as I’m 5 11. I heard the large is a bit too big.

Ozark 700C G1 Explorer Drop bar Size: Medium - will it fit a 6'1" / 185 cm guy?

Hey all!

I've been trying to get back into cycling recently and happened upon this sub and the Ozark G1. It's great for the $ and allows for incremental upgrades.

I'm looking for anything sub 600 and plan to do a mix of road biking and mountain/offroading. I'm from a Caribbean island with many of our paved roads actually resembling off-road 😂😂. This would be my general use bike.

I'm 6'0.8" (Call it 6'1") / 185 cm height and 92 cm /36" inseam.

Has anyone of comparable height tried the medium? Large has been out of stock for ages.

I've been sized once before at a Sports basement and it was noted that I have long arms, a shorter-than-average torso and longer-than-average legs for my height and should look to 58cm bikes instead of 60 cm - considering I'm on the cusp of Large and medium.

Cheap Hybrid Bike for Short (10 min bike ride) Daily Commute...help

Hello! I was looking into what bike I should buy for my daily commute this summer for my internship. I went far down the rabbit hole of gravel, hybrid, road, mountain bikes, and lowkey, I'm more confused than when I started. Any advice on what bike I should buy and where? From my research, I think a hybrid bike would be the best. I live in a fairly hilly area and will be traveling on the road. I'd rather not spend over 200 dollars if possible; however, I know I will be using this bike to travel to class in the fall. Any advice would be very appreciated!

I found this one on Kent: https://kent.bike/products/26-kent-avondale?variant=42430088347805

Update: I saw this mongoose barely used bike for 60 dollars. Grab or skip

Ozark G1

Just about finished, may replace front rack, I dont like the rear hub so may get a new wheelset, headset would be fun to replace. But other than that great bike not a whole lot of stock parts left lol

Love this bike!

I spent 6 hours crossing state lines on a mission to find it. We finally hit the jackpot at the third Walmart.

Am I the king of the sub now?

Bought the G.1 about a year ago as a “dad bike.” Pulling a trailer, planned to get a rack, etc. Shortly after, I was sent enough money to buy a kids ride shotgun seat for my kiddo. We’ve been loving it but due to frame geometry the shotgun seat is getting a little awkward to ride with a bigger kid.

Been scouring marketplace for a cheap MTB and going back and forth between those and the Ridge M.2. Took a peak at our local Walmart today and saw that they had a medium frame return for $318. Had a flat tire so I asked them for a small price reduction so I could get a tube. Manager came back and said “it’ll just be 20% off.” Felt like I stole it!

Another Ozark G1…

Haven’t done much yet. New tires, pedals, saddle, seat post, mounted a pump and some bags. Mainly cosmetic so far. Scored the bike for $120 on marketplace.

Friendly reminder that you dont need a 5k$ bike to have fun

I love my cheap hardtail 😀 my bike was out of commission for a couple of weeks and I was ITCHING to ride again. Replaced my headset and bled my brakes and she's good to go. Its an amazing feeling to be passionate about something again. When I was a kid I was all about skateboarding and after a couple of injuries I fell out of it and was directionless for so long. I feel so much more clear headed and calm after a good ride.

Market Place finds

One for me and one for the wife. 40 bucks each! Going to give them some TLC. How did I do? Anything I should know? These are our first Treks.

Picked this up a couple months back. Suffered a torn calf muscle about 1.5 years ago on my board, so I figured a bike would be a good way to get some strength back in it. This thing has been a blast to ride. The fact that it’s under $300 is wild.

Anyone got recommendations for a good front rack? I’ve been eyeballing some on Amazon, but I’m curious to hear other people’s opinions.

Also, I’m a photographer, so I’m trying to figure out a way to carry at least one of my light stands with me on the bike. Anyone got any ideas for that?

My Ozark G1

Picked up the bike back in February while my bikes were in the shop. Have a thousand miles on it since I got it. I switched out the stock handlebar for a Surly Crossbar for more of a dropdown and gravel feel. Added purple flat pedals that match the tape wrap on the bars. Have been impressed with the components overall. Rides as good as my other bikes. Will probably swap out the tires as soon as I wear the Kenda tires on them. I have been recommended this bike to everyone cause of the low cost and high fun to get into biking.

New hobby

The wife and I wanted to get into bike riding mainly around the neighborhood and the occasional trail ride. We were unsure if it was something we were going to enjoy doing so we decided to start out on a budget friendly bike and so far so good.

My budget is 20k
Is there any suggestion

I really want the Ozark trail but it’s been out of stock for over a month. The Polygon is nice but at the top of my budget. I’d like to have something before summer starts but can’t decide if I should wait to see if the Ozark will be back in stock.

Based on the consensus of this subreddit, I got myself a G1 Explorer Flat Bar to get into bikepacking. Seems like it is the king for the money and was really the only option in my price range. I'm gonna throw a rack and some panniers on there as well as an old frame bag I got gifted.

I know there's a lot of recommendations throughout the thread for upgrading it, but I was hoping to consolidate it here and maybe get some updated info. I'd appreciate advice on order of impact and best options to upgrade the bike for my needs. I'll mainly be doing bikepacking trips on a mix of gravel, paved, and some light trails. My goal route is to do the GAP+C&O.

Upgrades I'm considering:

  1. Brakes - Seems like Shimano MT200s are the favorites. Do I have to also replace the rotors?
  2. SunRace 11-40t cassette
  3. Maxxis Rambler 45 or 50c tires
  4. Seat, Seat post, Saddle -- any recs on these?

Anything else worth considering? I know it's kinda pointless to upgrade the wheelsets or drivetrain so probably won't do that. I'm looking for bang for the buck, impactful upgrades.

And before anyone says something about I should've just bought a better bike for more money upfront... the whole point is I can start bikepacking now and make these upgrades along the way as funds become available.

Thanks!
