Brilliant jee mains vs pw prayas.

I only had a little experience on entrance coaching . That also in xylem. Which was absolute shit. I decided to take a drop for jee. My first priority was for pw, bcs i watched their lectures before and was quit impressive.

I told my parents that i choose pw the day before they started the classes(apr 21). They said that their fees is too low compared to brilliant. So they must have poor quality. Told me to join brilliant offline and they would arrange money. They paid the registration fee. Few days later. After some research, i got free pirated version of currently running classes of pw. I decided to watch it till june. They start from the basics and goes into higher level. I decided to watch basic maths from it. They teach many basic mathematics needed for jee.(like factorisation, different methods to break equations simpler in higher level. Which no one taught me before. I was going on a track of solving hard looking problems into simpler equations. Also they are rich in lectures(almost 17 lectures including practice sections each of 2 hours). Then brilliant started their online class now . I watched them.(they are starting from mid chapters and are trying to finish it fast. When i compared their previous lectures from brilliant classes to previous classes of pw. There was a huge difference in basis of theory and questions solved in class. I felt sleepy during brilliant classes. Now the problem is choosing whether to stay in brilliant or choose pw.

I will have 15 lect backlog if i join pw now. Also need to convince my parents.

I need a guidance on it from any one experienced 🙏

Guys, let me share my experience at the Brilliant Pala JEE Advanced batch. I was a state board student, but I was kind of a topper there—I scored full marks in Plus One and only lost 9 marks in Plus Two (PCM). I did go to entrance coaching (KEAM) during Plus Two at a local institution nearby, but that was a Sunday batch thing. You only got classes twice a week, and I didn't learn much from there. I got an approximately 10k rank in KEAM and 69% in JEE that year.

So, like everyone else aiming for JEE, I too joined Brilliant Pala. I joined the Advanced batch, and many of my friends joined the Mains batch. My hostel and my hostel mates were really nice, so I didn't feel any particular homesickness. The food was kinda meh, but everything else was nice. They allow phones during the first week; after that, it is restricted to 1 hour, 3 days a week. On Sundays, you get half an hour to go outside and buy what you need—that's when we stocked up on snacks for the week. There are 4 shops inside the campus plus a canteen where you can buy things too. Brilliant has some of the best mutta puffs.

Our hostel rent was ₹9,800 (₹3,800 for rent and travel, and ₹6,000 for food, which is ₹200 per day for 30 days). If you opt for the laundry service—which allows 100 clothes a month and collects everything except undergarments twice a week—it costs ₹1,200 more. (Students usually share laundry, by the way: 1 subscription for 2 students or 2 subscriptions for 3 students). Alternatively, you can wash your clothes yourself.

You can either get a tablet or a laptop and have it customized there. No iPads or Macs are allowed. Laptops are really easy to crack; some crack it the same day they get it, or they install a new Windows OS to completely remove the customization. With tablets, there are only loopholes that allow browser access, which get fixed after some time, prompting students to find a new way—this repeats the entire year. Even if you find a way to remove the customization from your tab, don't do it. You will need to write online exams from your devices, and they can detect if a tab is un-customized during an exam. This isn't an issue for laptops, though.

You get an Onam vacation (7 days) followed by a model exam, but there is no Christmas vacation, just a 2-week break after the first session. They finish classes by November 15th. After that, it is only exams, though you can go to the campus for reference.

If you don't get a scholarship, the total expense looks something like this: ₹1.4 lakh for the course fee + ₹1 lakh for 10 months of rent + the cost of your tablet if you don't have one (you can buy it on your own or via Brilliant, but they only accept certain brands) + your monthly expenses, which are usually about ₹1,500 a month (so ₹15k total there). So, the grand total is around ₹2.8 lakh.

We had classes from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (and every Saturday towards the end of the course). My hostel was about 5km away from the center. They arrange their own buses, and travel usually takes 15 minutes. There are two 10-minute intervals and a 45-minute lunch break. We had 12 batches named i1 to i12, each containing 80 students. The i11 and i12 batches were for students who scored above 90% last year. They get classes taught by the top faculty for each subject throughout the year, while the other classes have different teachers for each chapter. Aside from those top batches, the numbering means nothing; it is completely random, so it's not like i6 is better than i1 or i2. There were also girls-only batches.

Now, for the real thing. After a few days, you will feel the workload building up. They started online classes in May, so when I joined at the beginning of June, I already had a backlog of 3 chapters—and big ones at that (Ray Optics, for instance, had 19 parts, each being a 2-hour class). We had an exam covering about 7 chapters every Monday. The first week's exam was at the CUSAT level, but after that, all exams featured literal JEE Advanced questions. They include some easy questions, but everyone gets those right, so your rank and grades heavily depend on the Advanced-level questions.

At first, the exams and classes are in sync, so it won't affect you much. But later on, we get different chapters to study at the campus, which means you have to revise those at the hostel PLUS handle online classes at the hostel. It was overwhelming. For example, the Probability chapter had 7 classes of 3 hours each, and they gave us just one week to finish it 😭. Combine that with a weekly Advanced-level exam on 7 chapters and having to watch solution videos for the previous exam. Compared to what I was studying here, they taught me nothing at my state school. Every single chapter felt entirely different from the state syllabus. I also didn't like Chemistry much, which was another hurdle.

No matter how much I studied, I couldn't cover more than 3 or 4 chapters a week. By the end of October, half the syllabus was in my backlog. During this 5-month period, you simply won't get good marks in the exams because you are studying 3 or 4 chapters for a 7-chapter test. Every week brings new chapters, so performing poorly on the last exam doesn't even give you a breather. So all week kashtappett padikkum and you won't get a good mark, and you repeat this cycle for 4 or 5 months. Man, I was completely burnt out by then. Every single time your parents call, you have no good news to share. That is the worst feeling ever. My parents didn't force me to go there; I went on my own, so it felt like I was the one wasting their money. Full mood povum.

Slowly, November arrives, and Brilliant says portion full theern. Meanwhile, there you are with a half-portion backlog, and you don't even recall what you studied a few months prior due to a lack of revision. In total, you only truly know about ⅓ of the syllabus. Brilliant's own faculty and mentors tell you not to concentrate on the weekly exams as they won't matter for your final exam, but how could I not care? That was the only progress metric I had to share with my parents and peers.

Don't think I didn't like studying or anything like that. I didn't get my state marks by doing nothing. The problem is that up until Plus Two, I got instant results when I studied. If I studied for an exam, I got good results in that exam itself. But that didn't happen here. It was effort with no results for 5 months straight, and I couldn't handle it. When I came here, I thought I could manage it, but that feeling of not improving even after everything you do is absolute hell.

Somehow, I managed to finish over half the syllabus by December, but after that, the full-chapter model exams started. I scored below 120 on every exam, and that was the breaking point for me. Pina maduth. I started getting sleepy when studying and couldn't focus at all. I was like, enthina padichatt padichalum mark kitilalo. The real exam arrived, and I got the worst possible shift. The paper focused heavily on the chapters I hadn't studied and excluded the chapters I was good at—there were no questions on circuits, modern physics, or YDSE. I got 78% on that shift. Yes, only 78%. And you know what? It was the exact same story for almost ¾ of the students in my hostel. Out of 140 of us, only 5 scored above 99% in that session. Some of us improved in the second session—I managed to get 88%. And that was the end of it. I vacated the hostel and am currently back home. Finally, my advice to my juniors: if you are from the state syllabus, the Advanced batch is nothing like what we studied before. Try watching Physics Wallah one-shot videos and practice some hard JEE Main questions. If you can confidently finish 5 chapters per week, go for it! There is still one month left before all offline classes start, so pick your stance before then. Don't be like me; you really need a strict plan and constant revision. I am sure I would have gotten a better percentile if I had found at least some motivation from the weekly exams. I think the Mains batch would have been better for me, as I didn't gain much from the Advanced batch and would have saved me 70k. However, I heard from friends that the Mains batch hostels and hostel mates weren't as good. Both batches have their pros and cons. I can only speak for the Advanced batch since that's where I was.

There are about 6k repeaters from all institutions across Kerala, and about 1.5k integrated Plus Two students. These 7.5k students stand at the top of the KEAM rank list. Only the top 700 will get into IITs or NITs, and a few into BITS (₹40 lakh), Manipal (₹28 lakh), or VIT (₹18 lakh). After that, you need to be ranked under 500 to get into CET, and under 1500 to get into TKM or MEC (for CSE, of course). So, ¾ of repeaters won't even get into MEC for CSE. However, I can guarantee that if you repeat, you will definitely get a better college than local private KEAM colleges, along with some really valuable connections. But I can't guarantee the same for NITs or even MEC. I know it's a long-aah post, but if you have any doubts, feel free to ask!

Do not go to travancore medical college for PG or MBBS. The management and the system will drain life out of you!

I am in the mood to vent today.I really hope this post will make this college least preferred among private colleges or the management will change for the good.

\*The management is extremely orthodox-moral policing and slut shaming\*

1)UG students have to go back to their hostel by 6pm. No night life.

2)Girls were restricted from wearing jeans in the campus and sitting together with male students in class or around campus draws a lot of unnecessary attention.Moral policing is in the air even for pgs

3)The management is also known to favour muslim students or staff more in case of any conflicts. This is not an exaggeration. Those who have been in such situations will know better.

\*Work culture is really bad for both PGs and interns\*

Interns:

1)Very less hands on clinically and in procedures.

2)Interns are mostly into scut work and are treated like clerks- Run around, write orders(popularly known as evening and morning rounds),complete files, type discharge summaries, get them signed. Interns grow to be the least reliable set of doctors in this system when they pass out from this college. They are invisible to the consultants here

Post graduates:

1)I have gone through so much stress and burn out that I am on basic psychiatric meds to help me survive this phase. Is it because of the workload? No. This is a private college and the workload is considerably low when compared to a government college. This college has a fair share of case load in some of its departments and the exposure is good but the system doesn't favour learning. Hands on is way less in surgical specialties compared to other private colleges in Kerala

PGs are forced to do the actual job of interns including very basic procedures and even scut work to an extent. I have spent my first year being an actual intern-complete files, prepare discharges, run to the wards leaving my food halfway just because the interns are not reliable enough. I still take my phone to the bathroom when I bathe or even poop because not picking up calls even when not on duty can turn into a complaint if the staff desires to

2)Punching rules: The punching time is 8am-8pm unlike so many other colleges that follows NMC punching rules and the timings are mostly 8/9am-5/6 pm. But, this hospital looks for every opportunity to cut stipend amount using their god damn attendance rules. The issue with 8 pm punching is that suppose we are done with our work for the day or it was a lighter day and we want to go out to a friends place or hang around with them in the evening, or even go home at 6 pm after completing evening rounds, it's not possible. PGs are the most overworked population in any teaching hospital and we deserve a break so that we can study or take a break and come back fresh and ready to work and learn the next day.

3)Incidents and complaints to DMS: You will never even be able to guess when something will turn into a complaint against you and reach the management. Pgs are the least supported here. The amount of stress that a lot of us go through just because this power gives a lot of intolerant, egoistic people a weapon in their hands to be used against others is insane.

\*The management is all about money\*

1)Pgs are not given full stipend unlike most of the other private colleges in Kerala. They hold back stipend for petty reasons. There is a history of struggle for even basic amenities like decent food in this college and the stipend amount given now.

2)No cultural or academic events. Nothing! If at all something happens, it's supposed to be over by 6 pm

\*Toxic departments\*

Some of the consultants are known for mental abuse and some departments for physical abuse. I can't talk more about this because it will most probably reveal my identity. The management does nothing for the students and the toxicity still continues

I personally know my batchmates in govt colleges who deal with higher case loads but do not deal with so much stress because the work culture is so much better.

I had to delete my alternate account due to suspicious situations. Today, my post will stay and I hope this helps someone.

i feel really bad bc i think i influenced my friend a lot to join the jee advanced batch

she registerd for the mains batch because previously i saw so many redditors and people online talking about how jee mains repeater batch in pala is not all that great and everyone who getgood marks in mocks are the ones in jee advanced repeater batches. and i mean SO MANY. so i really urged her to join the advanced batch. however recently i came across a post here talking about their experience in adv batch and i think they had no prior coaching (my friend's same situation). basically they talked about how it had been really hard, had classes from 8:30 to 5 pm and had online classes on top of the regular lectures. by the end they got burned out and ended up getting 78 percentile in their first shift.

i think she switched the batch bc of my take and idkk like i dont want her marks to be poor or be overwhelmed after taking this batch bc i suggested it.

Drop - JEE , Eranakulam

Guys , I'm planning take a drop for JEE. I didn't study for jee in plus one or plus two. I only have board level knowledge and I did pretty good in plus one and plus two ( state syllabus). I'm planning to repeat in Eklm. Is this a good idea?

Is JEE Mains repeater batch a scam?

This is just something I've read countless times on this subreddit. Having no base in JEE and scoring only 69%ile in both my attempts because of zero effort, I think Mains batch is what I need because I have to start from scratch. Also I'm state syllabus and while I have 99.5% in PCM it doesn't really show anything. I will definitely have poor marks in +2.

But I've seen a lot of opinions here that contradict my presumptions about this batch. Apparently they don't really teach you anything and are indifferent to your individual performances. Some teachers don't take classes well. This is devastating for me as I rely on good lectures and find it hard to rectify any mistakes or fill in any conceptual gaps that isn't included in the lecture. As I mentioned, my grasp of +1 and +2 understanding is below compared to someone from other boards or to someone who has scored 600/600 in state boards.

My second issue is the pace. Most coaching centres start out slow and then overload the students after 3 months in the Mains batch. If the teaching is subpar and the schedule is tight, that could makes things worse.

Also another issue I've seen repeated is the peer group. In Advanced batches, as expected, more industrious students are present. My only worry with joining an Advanced batch is that I'll fall behind. If I fall I can't expect any mentors, students or teacher to pick me back up. Being overwhelmed is one thing, being hopeless is another. So even if Advanced batches have better faculty, what is the point if I can't find the rhythm?

If you've already repeated in the Mains or Advanced batch, what do you suggest I do? I might be severely underestimating my abilities but I don't think I'm good enough for the Advanced batch. I need some time to settle into a change of environment and a change of lifestyle. I'm sorry this post is unstructured and asking a lot of questions, I'll jot it down for better accessibility.

TL;DR

1. Is Mains batch or Advanced batch better for leaning from basics and for those with minimal entrance experience?

2. How inferior is the Mains batch in terms of quality of teaching, effectiveness, schedule, peer groups, results etc.? If my aim is atleast 97%ile is it advisable to join Advanced batch even with no prior coaching experience?

3. If you have repeated at either Mains or Advanced batch, how was your experience? Knowing all the issues you faced and the lessons you learned, if you could restart that repeat year, what mistakes would you avoid, what changes would you make?

I'm sorry for such an annoying post that asks too many questions. But please take your time to type out your best response. I prefer long essays instead of DMs because I often forget to check them.

JEE advanced online or JEE mains offline

I'm going for repeat. I have 93.5% in plus one. so I cant get adv offline batch. my aim is 99% in mains , but from what I've read everyone says if you want 99% in mains you should go for advanced batch. As their mains batch apparently suck and only focus keam mainly. But I can't get adv batch because of low mark in plus one.

So whats the best for me to get mains 99%+?

Should I go for Mains offline batch? or Advanced online batch?

or should I go to eduport or something where they focus on mains better?

messed up all the criteria's to join the jee mains repeaters batch

I'm a jee aspirant and I really wanted to join the Brilliant Pala JEE mains repeaters batch, but I messed up the screening test which happened yesterday, also couldn’t get through the other criteria since my JEE Main April percentile was only 57 and the cutoff was 60 percentile, and my 10th marks also didn’t meet the required cutoff. and with the 12th results, honestly I don’t have much hope for them either. I genuinely want to take a repeat year for JEE and work seriously, so I just wanted to ask if there’s any chance of another screening test or any other way to get into Brilliant Pala. If not, are there any other good alternatives ? I’ve been thinking xylem but idk much about their criteria or admissions Would really appreciate any honest advice from people who know about this.

Taking loan for neet

Need honest opinions about taking a loan for NEET repeat year 😭

Hi everyone 👋 I’m planning to join a NEET repeat batch this year, probably in Pala. The coaching + hostel + other expenses are becoming a huge financial burden for my family 🥲

We’re thinking about taking a loan for my repeat year, but honestly I’m very scared.

What if I still don’t crack NEET after repeating? 😭 Sometimes I feel guilty seeing my parents spend so much money on me.

So I wanted honest opinions from repeaters/seniors:

  • Is taking a loan for NEET repeat worth it? 💭
  • Did anyone here study through educational loan/financial struggle?
  • How did you handle the pressure and guilt?
  • Did repeat year actually improve your score significantly?
  • Any advice before making this decision?

Please give genuine replies 🙏 I’m really confused and anxious right now.

Neet repeat

Going to repeat for NEET in Pala this year 🥲 Need some advice

Hi everyone 👋 I’m joining a NEET repeat batch in Pala soon and I’m honestly nervous 😭 I had some doubts and wanted to ask seniors/repeaters there.

  1. Is hostel changing based on Monday test performance real? Like if we perform well can we get shifted to a better/controlled hostel? 🏠

  2. Is the food same in every hostel or does it depend on the hostel? 🍛 Some people told me food quality changes a lot between hostels.

  3. Any advice for someone starting repeat year? 📚 Especially how to stay consistent and not get mentally exhausted.

  4. About tablets for study — should I buy one from a normal store before joining or buy through the institute? 💻 If I buy through the institute, will it become fully mine after the course ends or do we have to return it?

Would really appreciate honest replies from seniors 😭✨
