Old or New? - Jabba’s Palace
“Duel of the Fates” isn’t Maul’s theme. It’s Anakin’s.
In the prequel trilogy, John Williams’s masterpiece “Duel of the Fates” exclusively plays during key moments where Anakin Skywalker’s fate hangs in balance.
I - the final climactic duel entirely determines Anakin’s future. If Qui-Gon survived, he would have trained the boy as intended. If Maul won, Anakin likely would have been sent back to Tatooine or possibly even taken in by Darth Sidious much earlier. Instead, Obi-Wan is the sole survivor, setting the entire story of the Saga in motion.
II - the piece again plays as Anakin races to find his mother on Tatooine. This is the moment that ultimately determines and seals his destiny.
III - Duel of the Fates’ final reprise occurs as we crosscut between the two duels of Anakin vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar and Yoda vs Darth Sidious in the Senate chambers. Much like the duel in Episode I, the outcome of either of these battles would completely alter history and Anakin’s ultimate fate.
Hey everyone, I’ve finally finished my high-res overhaul of Revenge of the Sith. It is my favorite SW film by some distance but I must admit I always wanted to do something about the very few gripes I've had with this movie since my first watch. I mainly desired to feel and fix some of the tonal inconsistencies that always bugged me in regards to the change in both voice and general characterization of the battle droids and the CIS as a whole. Here’s what I’ve mainly worked on:
- Giving it the filmic look: Since the movie was shot digitally, it can look a bit too sterile. I’ve added film grain across the entire film to give it a more organic, cinematic texture that matches the rest of the saga and to help blend CGI elements better (I've also done the same thing for AOTC).
- The Droids: I’ve done a substantial sound re-edit of the battle droids. I’ve ditched those squeaky, goofy voices from the theatrical cut (every single scene they talk in has been tampered with with utmost attention to detail) and replaced them with the more menacing tones from the first two prequels. It honestly adds so much more gravitas to the conflict per se and consistency to their characterization. At least it does imho.
- The "Seeds of Rebellion" arc: I’ve integrated the excellenty restored version of the "Seeds of Rebellion" deleted scenes by Mecha Salesman. These scenes add a lot of much-needed political weight to the story and, to this day, I still think it was a poor choice to discard them in the final cut.
- The Flow: To balance out the extra runtime from the new scenes, I’ve cut the elevator antics bit. I’ve made sure the seamless integration into the final footage feels natural, so the pacing stays tight without losing the depth of the new subplots. Obi-Wan and Anakin basically reach the spire in little to no time after entering the elevator (devoid of battle droids I might add) as it was the exact plan Dooku and Sidious had strategized in the first place.
