Brookline has plans to massively expand its Bluebike network over the next few years, almost tripling the number of stations. Much of the growth will be densifying the existing network in North Brookline, however there are also plans to add stations in South Brookline for the first time, starting to fill a large gap in the overall system.

There is more information on this page on the city website. The project was voted on by the transportation board last month. There are some interesting updates attached to those meeting notes:

>In January of 2026, the Town presented the first round of proposed Bluebike expansion locations to the Shared Mobility Advisory Committee to collect feedback and further refine station siting for the 25 proposed expansion station locations, many of which do not impact parking. In February of 2026, the Town presented two station siting options per location at almost all of the 25 proposed sites to the public to gather feedback. Abutters were notified by mail as well as through the Town Administrator’s newsletter, the Town Meeting Member email list serve, and social media postings. Residents also provided feedback through email or a google form provided at the end of the public meeting and on the project’s website. Based on feedback received from the public, locations were updated and reviewed by Town staff prior to presenting to the Transportation Board. The Town is excited to present the preferred alternative for each of the 25 locations for Bluebike expansion that make meaningful connections to public transportation, high density residential and commercial areas, and points of interest over the next five years. All public comments are being provided as part of the agenda packet, but below is a brief overview of feedback by location as to why the location was selected. No notes indicate that the station was supported as presented and/or the revised location addresses the comments raised by the public. The regulation change requested is included with each station location and underlined.

Expansion Locations:

• Longwood MBTA Station
  • Originally proposed location adjacent to Longwood Towers rose concerns for some members of the public. The final proposed location was shifted closer to the Longwood MBTA station to reflect public input.
  • Request for the removal of four (4) parking spaces and installation of a new crosswalk across Chapel Street.
• Beaconsfield MBTA Station
  • Request for the removal of three (3) parking spaces.
• Brookline Avenue
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Harvard Street at Aspinwall Avenue
  • Request for the removal of four (4) parking spaces.
• Coolidge Corner East
  • Originally proposed location in front of Los Amigos rose concerns from some members of the public indicating delivery drivers use the “no parking” area.
  • Request for two (2) metered spaces to be converted to pick-up/drop-off as part of project.
• Washington Street at Park Street
  • Proposed location on Park Street raised concern for some members of the public due to congestion of traffic in the area. Notes from Transportation Staff: the bump-out for the Bluebikes station will be as narrow or narrower than the existing parking lane, which should not change traffic flow on Park Street.
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Washington Street at Griggs Road
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• St Paul Street at Francis Street
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Hammond Street at Chestnut Hill Commercial Area
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Independence Drive at Thornton Road
  • Request for the removal of three (3) parking spaces.
• South Street at VFW Parkway
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Amory Park
  • Request for the removal of two (2) parking spaces.
• Pond Avenue at Washington Street
• Larz Anderson Park
  • Transportation Staff will work with the Park and Recreation Commission to secure the necessary approval.
• Clyde Street at Newton Street
• Brandon Hall/Fairbanks MBTA Station
• Hawes Street MBTA Station
• Marion Street at Park Street
• Englewood MBTA Station
• Dean Road MBTA Station
• Dudley Street at Lee Street
  • Will require Park and Recreation Commission approval.
  • Transportation Staff will work with the Town Park and Recreation Commission to secure the necessary approval.
• Babcock Street at Dwight Street
• Warren Field
• Browne Street at Still Street
  • Opposition to station in a residential neighborhood and impact to traffic flow. Delivery vehicles use the no parking area.
  • Proposed location on Browne Street raised concern for some members of the public due to the location in a residential neighborhood and potential impact to traffic flow. Residents indicated that delivery vehicles use the “no parking” area. Notes from Transportation Staff: Direction from the Shared Mobility Advisory Committee and industry best practices indicate that siting stations in areas of high residential density is an effective strategy to incentivize ridership.
  • Transportation staff could explore converting an existing parking space in the area to a pick up/drop off space.
