I was shopping at my local thrift store and my jaw hit the floor when I saw this, especially at that price point. Some of the buttons were pulled forward quite a bit, but after some tinkering, I fixed it and the player worked perfectly. There was also a blank Betamax tape in there with TV recordings from 2006 as well.
So I've been a huge VHS collector for many years.
Never found a Betamax player ever all these years they're so rare here in Canada especially in a small town of New Brunswick where I live.
I seen this on the Facebook marketplace for $30!!
Even came in the original box.. I was told their mother just kept it in the closet all these years it looks so minty. Does anyone know much about this player?
Did I score a good deal? Is it a nice player?
I also don't own any Beta movies.. there's zero around here.. where might be a good place here in Canada to order or find some Betamax tapes?
Also anything I should do before using it? Like open it up change anything out ? Or just try it as is?
Where there any movies only ever released on Betamax and nothing else? I collect movies on any and all formats. Just curious if you know of any that were just on Betamax?

I bought a lot of old Beta tapes from eBay and was wondering if any of the Teletext info is actually preserved. I recently got this Trinitron with the built-in Teletext card and turns out, it can actually decode some of it! (Although obviously very garbled)

Hello Betamax community. I’ve recently transitioned from being addicted to collecting vhs tapes and VCRs to Betamax players and tapes. I was lucky enough to come across these three separately for good prices. They each have an issue that needs repairing, and i will at some point bring them to a local shop for said repairs. My question is which of these would you keep? Which has the best longevity/ durability and also best quality of audio and visual. I’d like to keep one and then sell or gift the other two. I’ve checked out what the internet has to say but I’m curious to hear it from the folks on the ground. Thanks.
I recently bought a Sony SL-T30ME Betamax. It was working very well when the owner showed me videos of it playing. Unfortunately, during shipping, I dont want to blame the owner because he packaged it very nicely, the entire front panel was crushed into pieces. and died completely after energy cycling it twice. I returned the machine to the seller, but I bought the remote separately from another owner. Now I’m planning to buy another machine.
This Madonna music video compilation was released in 1984 and contains the songs “Burning Up”, “Borderline”, “Lucky Star”, and “Like a Virgin”. The tapes were released by Warner and the disc was released by Pioneer. The LaserDisc is a 20cm CLV extended play “single”.
My little collection started on a whim after grabbing the Betamax cassette in a small lot off eBay in 2022, and then unexpectedly finding the VHS version in 2024 at Half Price Books. The LaserDisc arrived from eBay this week.
Anyone know what could be wrong with my player. Just got it and it doesn’t take in any tapes. This is my first beta player so does anyone know if something is up with the inside of it? Thank you.
