Sources Workflow question

Hello dear techs, i’ve got some thoughts and questions.

why is the routing, like in the x32, a multi layer workflow instead of just direct patching? Which advantages does it give you to name sources, link them with eachother instead of just doing it like that:

Select channel -> select Mono, Stereo, Mid/Side -> select physical input of left side -> select physical input of right side selected the channel.

I think its kinda a useless head breaking experience and remembers me of the user patching (X32/M32).

what is the advantage of doing it that way?

ps: i don’t yet have a WING but we want to upgrade from X32. I think the specs of the WING could support this way of routing.

Thanks in advance! 👋🏼

Wing Compact and AES50 on festival CAT6

Hey!

I am about to leave for my first EU festival run and I will not have an opportunity to bring my own CAT5e cable.

The advance sheets are only just now coming to me, only a week before I leave, and all of the festival are running CAT 6 and CAT 7.

Obviously, I am worried about the AES50 static discharge issues although it has not yet happened to me, but again, I am relying on my own CAT5e most of the times.

What is your experience running festival CAT lines with the Wing?

And what do you do when you realize this is going to be an issue and you have 10 min. to line check before showtime?

Thank you for any words of wisdom, advice, and encouragement!
