Introducing...Beakerjuice!
This is what happens when two of my special interests (Beaker and the Beetlejuice musical) collide. 😂
Does the original Broadway house set piece still exist and will the West End get it?
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about: the original Broadway production at the Winter Garden (and later the Marquis) had one massive, single house set piece that could move forwards and backwards on stage. It was the centrepiece of the whole show and genuinely unlike anything else on Broadway at the time.
Every production since has used a cut/split version of the house the US national tour, Toronto, Melbourne, Abu Dhabi all of them. The full house has not been seen since the Marquis Theatre run closed in January 2023.
So two questions:
1. Does the original house still exist? Was it put into storage when the Marquis closed, or was it scrapped? Nobody seems to have publicly addressed this not Korins, not the producers, nobody. Has anyone seen or heard anything?
2. Will the West End get it? The Prince Edward Theatre opens May 2026 and runs through April 2027 a full year long sit down production. Unlike the tour or Melbourne, this is a proper long-term residency that could actually justify the full set. The Melbourne production closed in September 2025 and had to “leave Australia” which lines up with an 8 month load-in window before the West End opens.
This feels like the most likely moment for the full house to make its return if it still exists. Does anyone have any insider knowledge, stage door info, or have seen anything about the West End set build?
Would love to know if this iconic piece of theatre history is still out there.
The Beetlejuice Australia instagram just announced that they're gonna be doing VIP packages, which includes (among other things) a backstage tour of the Lyric Theatre!
