Can I get pinions about Northeast Tacoma because I applied for a place there and I'm getting weird looks at work?

I applied for a place, took a tour, and hope to get it. It's in the Northeast Tacoma and Brown's Point area. Every-time I tell a friend I get "Tacoma!? That's the hood." I don't get that vibe from this area, granted, I didn't drive around at night.

I grew up in between gang neighborhoods in California, so I know a hood when I see it, and this is not it. I will say though, there was a pretty clear line I crossed while following my GPS where the neighborhood went from middle class to poverty. I don't think these houses have been updated since 1995.

Do I need to know something, or is there a reputation casting a shadow of this area that just ins't so? The place seems outdated, but not dangerous.

What are the names of some Trans friendly piercing parlors in the area for first time piercing?

I don’t really present, been on meds for a while. Not exactly where I want to be with it but I want to take this step. What is a nice accepting place in the area to visit, as I do not have the stomach to put up with prejudice and I also know that some shops will not give piercings to who they think of as men in areas or ways they might do for women. I don’t know the logic of that, I don’t know much about piercing culture and norms, but I recall reading that before when looking at reviews in another area I use to live. Also what are fair prices? What type of piercing is the right thing to ask for? I have seen some women with a few on each ear, and part of me was thinking of a septum. I don’t have a lot of money either, so I am going to have to plan ahead on budgeting for this and jewelry, which I guess they must sell there to put it in. How much does it hurt?

Apartment recommendations?

I’m moving up to Washington in a couple months, super excited but I’m running into the issue of being able to find a good apartment. Does anyone have any good recommendations where they take pets? I have 2 dogs and 2 cats :( so I know it may be difficult. I’m trying to stay near Tacoma or Kent.

Are the pollen allergens here different from Issaquah?

Being my first spring since I moved here from Issaquah, I'm curious if anyone has similar experience or insight on what pollen is in the area that might be new to me.

Bit of a weird one, but starting about three weeks ago (night of April 2 to be precise) I've had a persistent, metallic taste in my mouth, accompanied by constant salivation (but not excessive, only as much as I expect from being hungry). It doesn't seem to be triggered by food generally or specific food, nor does it make anything taste wrong, it just overlaps. It's hard to tell if the saliva is the source or if it's just wicking it, but the taste is discernably local to the floor of my mouth. When my mouth gets dry it gets stronger, but I'm pretty sure it isn't causing dry mouth on it's own. No other symptoms, no pain, sensitivity, swelling, bleeding, congestion, drip, or anything else I've noticed. No changes to diet or medication around that time (closest was over a month prior). Hydration could be better/more consistent but I've definitely been worse in the (recent) past with no such issues.

The only thing that has seemed to temporarily alleviate it is Benadryl, but my testing has been very limited and unscientific. I'm lucky in that antihistamines make me neither drowsy nor wired. None of them, as far as I know, not even a little (I once washed down antihistamine-based OTC sleep aids with Nyquil in desperation, no dice). But the whole thing is just bad enough to annoy me without being so bad I'm forced to keep myself dosed. Mouthwash and gargling saltwater have been totally ineffective.

Now, as a kid I had horrendous seasonal allergies. Most prominently cottonwood, from which I got crippling congestion for the whole summer. Months out of the year, every year. Zyrtec pretty much fixed that but over the years I also observed much milder congestion too early and too late in the year for cottonwood, and nowadays I take it like half of the year just in case. I couldn't tell you what day exactly, but I have started taking Zyrtec for the year.

The timing and lack of any other symptoms leaves me at a bit of a loss as to what it could be besides an allergen. Aside from a semi-major food allergy (a specific protein additive, makes breathing difficult) and a very minor one (apple skin, itchy throat). I've only ever been allergic to tree stuff. I would have said just pollen but I'm currently in a cabinetry program and had a gnarly skin reaction that got narrowed down to sap from a classmate's white oak lumber. Possibly also worth noting was that the first and worst case began within literal hours of visiting North End, one of only two times I've been that far north since moving. Anyways, my healthcare options are shit, so I'm crowdsourcing before I do anything formal.

Sorry if this is too much detail or the wrong place to ask, I'll happily take directions if there is a more appropriate sub.

Do we have any Baking Clubs?

This is for my fellow bakers & people who love bread, cakes, pastries, etc.

Are there any current/active baking clubs in the Tacoma area? I've seen some that existed in the past, but cannot seem to find any that meet currently or regularly.

Was looking for something that maybe meets 1x a month, all baking levels welcome, and just want to share baked goods with each other.

If something isn't out there, would anyone be down to start one?*

Edit*: We started one (because there wasn’t one)! For anyone that’s interested, there is now a public IG page to follow here: The Tacoma Baking Club

Going to get some polls started around themes, planning, and all things bake club to be!

Anyone know of places hiring servers/bartenders?

Hey all,

Seasoned FOH restaurant employee extraordinare with open availability looking for full-time and part-time gigs anywhere in the Tacoma and surrounding areas. I've been pounding the pavement and dropping off resumes at places between 2-5pm, so I'm looking for some more direct leads.

I'm in the WA State Bartender's Community and the Pierce County Restaurant Workers group, but any leads are very much appreciated.
