Found Inside A Used Copy of Kitchen Confidential

I found this Les Halles menu inside a used copy of Kitchen Confidential that I just purchased and can’t find anywhere online indicating this comes standard in the book. My friend has a copy of the book but no menu. It doesn’t seem like a real real menu to me for some reason - but is it?

The first trailer for A24's upcoming Tony Bourdain film has dropped:

Tony | Official Trailer HD | A24

Since we're bound to get a deluge of duplicate posts, spam, and karma-farming accounts that come with something like this, we're consolidating all trailer discussion into this single thread. Feel free to use this thread to share reactions, screenshots, and anything else related to the trailer or the film.

Please keep the subreddit rules in mind, especially regarding how you treat others... We've unfortunately had to ban quite a few people for being unnecessarily hostile toward others who are looking forward to this. If it's not your thing, you're free to say so, but don't be a dick.

Anthony Bourdain's estate has released a statement on why it supports A24's new biopic:

"Anthony Bourdain’s legacy is meaningful to millions of people. He was a man who valued authenticity above all else and would have been both moved and baffled by the world's curiosity about his life.

"We chose to support TONY because it is not a standard biopic and doesn't attempt to summarize a life. Guided by the vision of director Matt Johnson, the film depicts one transformative summer in 1975 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It is an interpretation as that part of Tony's life will always remain somewhat unknown.

"We appreciate the portrayal of Tony's complexity, his intellectual appetite and his conviction -- qualities that eventually took him around the globe and endeared him to so many. We hope this film serves as a reminder that every journey has a start, and that audiences see the beginnings of the man who taught us how to be better explorers on our own paths."

Cheers Chef. I miss you.

Tony was always visceral in real time. But now looking back… I feel his comments were guarded. I really want to know his thoughts leading up to his death. When ever I find myself drinking too much and depressed… I watch one of his series. It immediately picks me up. I really wish we as fans picked him up too.

Signed copy of Kitchen Confidential?

I work in the vacation rental industry and today an owner donated a couple boxes of books. This kind of thing happens alot, and normally someone tosses these items at the end of the day, so I decided to give it a quick look through before it hit the dumpster.

It caught my eye immediately.

My jaw dropped when I flipped open the first couple pages.

Seems legit. What do you guys think? ( I dont want to ask the owner just in case they ask for it back )

Cowboy Hat lady - 2 years in a row

Back in late 2024, I posted that I had finally met the “Cow Hat Lady” at the North Gate Night Market in Chiang Mai. I never shared this part, but I went back one last time before leaving Thailand — just to soak it all in before moving on to the next destination.

She’s still there, serving the amazing food that somehow tastes even better with a cold Chang beer in hand.

Tony was my idol, my hero, and my inspiration. He taught me that food is more than food — it’s people, culture, kindness, and connection. Traveling to places he once walked through makes me feel a little closer to that spirit.

Next stop in 2026: Seoul, South Korea. Another one of Tony’s places.

Question about different editions

So I’ve decided to read Kitchen Confidential for the first time, and I’ve seen many editions, so I’m trying to decipher the differences between them to decide which to read. If you know any differences, please let me know in the comments.

  1. Updated Edition
  2. Insider’s edition
  3. Annotated edition

Help is very much appreciated ❤️

Help settle a marital argument: would Anthony bourdain enjoy/like pasta salad? (Pasta, peppers, olives, deli meat etc.)

Context she thinks it’s below his tastes and I think a burger and pasta salad paired with a cigaret and cold beer is right up Anthony’s tastes.

Want to get a Bourdain book. Any recommendations? Is it only about cooking/travel?

I admit, I don't know much about Anthony Bourdain. From cultural osmosis, I gather he's a cook, but also a travel writer, and apparently is viewed as a well respected thinker?

If someone isn't interested in cooking or travel, does his books pierce through and provide any philosophical insights/guidance, or do you have to be interested in those topics to make it worth reading?

Paris with his eyes

“The vacation gone wrong in Paris is almost always because people try to do too many things. Most of us are lucky to see Paris once in a lifetime. Please, make the most of it by doing as little as possible. Walk a little. Get lost a bit. Eat. Catch a breakfast buzz. Have a nap. Try and have sex if you can, just not with a mime. Eat again. Lounge around drinking coffee. Maybe read a book. Drink some wine. Eat. Repeat. See? It's easy.”

Help me select the most exemplary episodes of Parts Unknown

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time posting.

I am working on an academic piece that uses Parts Unknown as a case study. Specifically, it examines the kind of travel practices the show advocates for, its philosophy of travel.

I have been a long time fan of Bourdain so I’ve watched quite a few (around 30) episodes of PU. However I’m struggling with decision paralysis when it comes to selecting which episodes are the most exemplary of Bourdain’s and the show’s attitude towards travel. My text will focus on how language frames this attitude (through his interviews and narration), but also how visual and auditory techniques mediate Bourdain’s encounters.

Which episodes for you showcase his approach towards travel the best?
