Phoenix Down v1.17.1 is live (after Lemuroid 1.17.0 announcement) - Android/TV fork with SMB + Archive support

Hi everyone,

Following the Lemuroid 1.17.0 announcement, Phoenix Down v1.17.1 is now live.

Release: https://github.com/zinosaure/PhoenixDown/releases/tag/phoenix-down-v1.17.1

What is Phoenix Down? Phoenix Down is an open-source Android emulator fork based on Lemuroid/Libretro, focused on practical quality-of-life features like network libraries, Android TV usability, and integrated content workflows.

What was validated for this release:

Device tests:

  • Xiaomi TV Box Gen 3
  • Samsung Galaxy A35

Storage and network tests:

  • Local SMB share (read/write)
  • Internet SMB share (read-only)

Gameplay tests:

  • Tested across all supported platforms except PSX
  • PSX currently has known network-loading limitations, so it is better to avoid PSX over network in this version

Known PSX caveat (important):

  • Some PSX games over network can fail because:

-- Copyright/legal constraints -- Multi-file disc sets are harder to resolve remotely when not in single-file formats (for example BIN + CUE dependencies) -Recommendation for affected PS1 network cases: use ePSXe

Install/build:

  • Docker install/build is plug-and-play from repo root: ./build.sh

This is currently the easiest way to build without local Android toolchain friction.

Project/readme:

  • Full details, features, and roadmap are in the README.
  • Upcoming roadmap includes SFTP/WebDAV support and multiple ROM folders scanned in parallel.

Issues and feedback:

  • If you hit bugs, please open issues directly on the GitHub repo (with device, Android version, logs, and reproduction steps if possible).

Contributors are welcome:

  • If you want to help with code, testing, documentation, UX, translations, or device/network validation, contributions are very welcome. Feel free to open an issue first to discuss ideas, or submit a PR directly.

Disclaimer:

  • Phoenix Down does not include copyrighted games or BIOS files.
  • Please use only legally acquired content.
  • Archive.org integration does not imply affiliation with archive.org.

Cinaura v1.4.0 released: WebDAV, internal and usb storage support, Trakt.tv sync, OpenSubtitles integration, and UI improvements

"One does not simply ship a release this big without a changelog." v1.4.0 is probably the biggest one yet! Huge thanks to everyone involved in the feedback, bug reports and feature requests, and special kudos to u/latinriky78 u/cundallini u/ironmesh 🙏

Downloader Code: 5781142

...or from GitHub: https://github.com/jrmux/cinaura-release/releases/tag/v1.4.0

If you're new to Cinaura: r/cinauratv

In this release:

🗄️  WebDAV source
Nextcloud, ownCloud, or any WebDAV server now work as a source, with self-signed SSL certificate support for home lab setups.

🔌  Local storage & USB drives
Plug in a USB drive, or just point Cinaura at your Android TV's internal storage. Cinaura now auto-discovers mounted volumes and treats them like any other source.

📺  Trakt.tv integration
Connect your Trakt account right from Settings. Real-time scrobbling while you watch, and a one-shot history import to bring all your existing watch state over.

💬  OpenSubtitles integration
Search and download subtitles straight from the player. It auto-matches by file hash, IMDb ID, and filename, so most of the time the right subs are just there. You can also set preferred languages per user in the settings so that matching tracks get selected automatically on playback.

✨  Subtitle overhaul
Redesigned selection and settings panels, proper positioning that accounts for letterboxing, persistent per-user subtitle offset, and better text styling controls. Cinaura now also remembers your last pick when you toggle subtitles back on.

🔊  Better audio & HDR
DTS:X detection, Dolby Vision Profile 7 override for supported displays, and automatic frame rate switching so 24fps content plays at 24fps.

🛠️  Metadata tools
New Filename Info panel on the Details screen, and a dedicated "Items with no metadata" screen to diagnose anything that didn't match.

🎯  UI polish
Reworked top navigation bar, high-contrast focus states across the app, dashboard focus restoration when you come back from another screen, and auto-select user on startup when there's only one user profile.

🔄  Sync reliability
Per-source progress in the top bar so you know which source is scanning. A failing folder no longer stalls the whole sync, and Cinaura won't accidentally wipe items when a source is temporarily unreachable.

🔤  Natural sorting
Small words like "The" and "A" are now ignored in the list ordering like it should. No more huge "The..." movies list

🐛  Bug fixes

  • Fixed video player aspect ratio "Fill" mode
  • Fixed subtitle positioning glitch when the player first loads
  • Internal storage access restored on devices with buggy OEM firmware
  • SMB health-check no longer flaps between online/offline on flaky networks
  • Deeplinks from the Android TV home now correctly points to the details view instead of the app landing
  • Long press on episodes to mark as watched no longer autoclose the panel
  • SMB connection screen no longer show autocomplete suggestions on password input field

--------

For those not comfortable with sideloading, Play Store release is still in progress!

Got a feature request or found a bug? Drop it in the comments. Lots of great things coming up on the roadmap!

Screed Recorder

I am a mod in Projectivy and AT4K launcher groups. I like to try out new live wallpapers for testing and show the community, but I can't find anything stable that will still record on Android TV. It's hit and miss even on boxes with AOSP. Does anyone know if anything is working, even willing to sideload it if it works?

Best IPTV budget bulk box?

What box would you recommend for IPTV live tv and on demand streaming? I’m looking to purchase in somewhat of bulk to use Tivimate on and distribute to friends/family.

I want to keep cost as low as possible, but also want decent quality. No crazy needs other than being able to stream live tv channels and on demand movies/series

Is there an app that allows me to select photos to display from my phone?

I'm in need of a TV that would have an app that allows me to select which photo should be displayed from my phone, is there any options for something like that? And if so is there a way I would be able to also play music from it in the same way? Selected from my phone but coming out of the TV?

Android/Google TV Sticks and Gaming?

About seven months ago, my PC broke and I've not had access to gaming since then. Just a few hours ago, I learned about a system I had no idea existed and have been digging into how it works (to much confusion): Nvidia GeForce Now. Sadly, my first hurdle here is that my TV is a Roku (which I have also learned over the last seven months is notoriously restrictive with apps, to the point of not even including a web browser beyond a few 3rd-party apps that charge you per search or a monthly fee for searching, and sometimes even a fee for access the search results). I may have found a solution of sorts, but I'm not sure if it will work. I found a Google TV stick for under $20 at Walmart. I remember back in the day before smart TVs, these sticks were how we made our old dumb TVs behave like how smart TVs do now. I only have a few questions:

1: Is Google TV the same as Android TV? By that, can I download the same apps, use it the same way, and it work the same way as an Android TV, just maybe with different UI elements or something? I know Android is owned by Google, so the Google TV system is probably built on the same Android OS, but I don't know if that Google system has more restrictions similar to how Samsung lightly restricts Android (I say lightly because other Android-based systems are even more restricted).

2: Can I use an Android/Google TV stick on my Roku?

3: My Roku TV does have a few USB ports, so could I plug a mouse and keyboard into it and the Android/Google TV system be able to read their inputs?

Like I said, I can get this stick thing for under $20. I already have a mouse and keyboard, and GeForce Now does offer a free plan, so if I can at least get some semblance of gaming for $20, that'd be amazing!

I have been unemployed for about 2 years, so buying a new TV is simply not an option. I am trying to start a business and am in the initial funding phase, but I have no idea how long it will be before I can secure said funding.

Which box has less bloat?

I'm trying to decide between the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen and the Thomson Box Plus 270 but can't seem to find any information about Thomson's bloatware. Does it have any?

I know I can remove them through ADB but I don't want any of that hassle.

Thanks.

My TV can't connect to the internett (but everything else can)

I have a 55PUS8007/12 phillips TV. I have tried to hard reset it. Did not help. I have checked all other devices and they find the internett well.

I even put the wifi box higher up to see if there was some issues with the connection. It made the connection better for my phone and Computer. But my TV still wont connect. I have tried all these things. I have been a month without internett on my TV. I am waiting for a wifi enhancer in the mail, has not come yet. But I swear it has driven me mad. I even got my landlord to turn the entire router on and off cus I dont have access to the main thing myself.

The wifi box is wired onto my bedroom. My TV as well as computer is in the livingroom. The TV is furthest away by 3-4 meters. The wall between is not a thick wall, it's made of wood.

I can't afford a new TV.

xiaomi MI Tv P1 32 - L32M6-6AEU Android tv disabilitare interfaccia

Are those unbranded Android boxes worth it or unreliable?

Its finally time for me to upgrade my firestick especially due to the clamp down on sideloading. I was gonna go for the the Z12 ultra by formula but i soon learned theres a lot of apps not supported oficially like netflix ect. Not a deal breaker for me as i will mainly be using it for IPTV but for my family its going to be an issue. ANYWAY- i have seen loads of these boxes such as 'TX98 Pro+ 8K UHD Android 13 Smart TV Box' on Ebay and was wondering are these boxes good? they often have better specs than the mainstream branded ones, this one claimes to have 4GB RAM and 64GB HDD for only £60! I just want something that is smooth with no jitteryness. So should i take the risk or not?

Looking to switch from Fire TV – which Android TV box would you recommend?

Hey guys,

I’m thinking about moving away from Fire TV and getting an Android TV box instead.

My main use case is IPTV (TiviMate) and running NordVPN, so I don’t think I necessarily need something super expensive.

I’d prefer something stable, smooth, and not laggy – especially when using TiviMate.

Any recommendations for good value Android TV boxes?

Thanks!

Is certified really better?

Are certified Android TV boxes really better than their non-certified counterparts? I see all kinds of non-certified boxes that have excellent specs, from fairly reputable companies such as Ugoos and Buzz TV.

I built an IPTV player for Android TV with a web dashboard for remote setup — looking for feedback

Hey everyone. I've been building an IPTV player called TIVRA for the past few months and wanted to share it with the community.

The main reason I built it was frustration with typing provider URLs using a TV remote. So the core feature is a web dashboard — you log into tivratv.com from your phone or laptop, add your Xtream Codes or M3U provider, set up favorites, organize categories, and everything syncs to your Android TV in real time. No more pecking at an on-screen keyboard.

What it does:

- Live TV, VOD, and series playback

- Full EPG program guide

- Web dashboard for remote setup (add providers, manage favorites/categories/channels from any browser)

- Cloud sync across devices

- Category management (reorder, hide, move)

- Audio/subtitle track switching

- Resume & continue watching

- Built specifically for Android TV with full D-pad navigation

Playback approach: TIVRA uses direct stream passthrough in native format rather than remuxing or transcoding on the client side. In my own testing on the same provider and same network, I've noticed noticeably less buffering compared to TiviMate. Your mileage may vary depending on your provider and connection, but I'd be curious to hear if others experience the same.

Pricing:

- 7-day free trial (full features)

- Personal: $9.99/year (up to 3 devices)

- Family: $19.99/year (up to 5 devices)

- Lifetime: $29.99 one-time

I'm a small team (2 people) and the app is still early, so I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback. Happy to answer questions.

What apps are you guys using for streaming?

I've been having some buffering issues when lately, my internet seems fine.

I’m using TiviMate at the moment and it’s alright most of the time, but when i switch to higher quality streams it starts lagging a bit.

Not sure if it’s the app or just the streams themselves

Reviews on the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (wanting to jump from fire stick)

Hi all,

I currently have a few Amazon fire sticks and I really don't like the direction they are heading in.

Looking at this as it fits my budget well but wanting to get some real world reviews (I'm always very very dubious on YouTube reviews).

I also find the quality on the fire stick 4k just isn't that good considering it says 4K

Is this a good move ?

What Android specific use cases do you have?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting an Android TV device (specifically the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Gen), but better performance and longevity make me consider an Apple TV too. I know there is a big price difference, but I might be able to get one at a reasonable price with a sale or maybe a second-hand one.

I will use it for media consumption, no gaming. Also, I don't have any Apple products.

What I'm curious about is, are there any Android-specific use cases, things that I can't do on an Apple TV? I can also take recommendations for other devices, but my options are very limited (no Fire TV, Google or Nvidia because those aren't sold where I live, unfortunately.)
