Need help deciding between Coimbatore and Bengaluru campus.

AEEE rank- under 1k. I’m from north and will be taking CSE AI DS. i need help deciding between the main campus and bengaluru campus.
1.Which is stricter?
2.Which campus has better hostels and mess?
3.As somebody from the north, how much trouble will i have adjusting if i choose coimbatore?
4. What are the other pros n cons of both these campuses and what’s a major difference between them?
5. Objectively, which campus focuses more on sports, extracurriculars and has better campus life overall?
Please, any pointers or any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello, my fellow Amritians.

I am a student of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amaravathi. I am a regular student just like you all, who just completed my 12th and was searching for a college. Due to my good JEE percentile, I got admission into Amrita Amaravathi, and I am from the first batch of Amrita Amaravathi. I felt very happy because I got admission to a Top 5 NIRF college in India.

So when the college was yet to start due to construction, we used to have online classes for nearly 2 months, and they used to say that after these 2 months, the construction would be complete. After 2 months, they held an online meeting and told us that until the completion of 1 semester, we have to stay at Coimbatore (CBE). We all felt sad but also a little excited because we had the chance to stay at Amrita's main campus—a bit of positivity. And the shocking thing is, due to water scarcity at the CBE campus (it always has that problem because it was constructed in a hilly region, so most of the ground is rock with no chance of groundwater—because of that, they used to transport water with tanker trucks 24/7), only the girls had hostels at the CBE campus. For the boys, they arranged accommodation at the Amrita Agricultural campus, which was around 30 km (1 hour travel) from the CBE campus, and we used to travel daily on the college bus.

The only disadvantage was the travel, because we all used to get tired. Apart from this, everything was nice — the CBE campus has a huge library, events, workshops, great professors, and the actual college vibe. So, before our 1st semester exams, they made an announcement that we have to continue one more semester at the CBE campus due to construction at Amaravathi. There was 1 official group where the dean and principals used to message — the irony is it was active only when they had to make an announcement, and after that they used to make it admin-only. There was nowhere to raise our issues. In the middle of the second semester, they arranged a freshers' party for us lmao. After the completion of the second semester, they gave around 1 month of semester holidays, and in the middle of the holidays, they told us they were going to extend it by another 1.5 months because of the construction at the Amaravathi campus.

And due to the late start of classes in our 1st year, they always used to rush through the syllabus, exams, everything — just to match us with the other campuses. And the actual truth was, sometimes we even finished 1 month before the other campuses. Make it make sense.

The Second Year:

Finally, we were at the Amaravathi campus. It really felt good because I was in my own college and we were the seniors here — and remember, there will be no ragging, don't even think about it. Only half of the main block had been completed. The hostel block looked good but the interiors looked like they were made in a rush.

We also got a new lady principal. She used to be good with us and would teach us DSA when she was free. Students started building clubs and every club used to arrange different workshops — many students visited them, but because of that, many students were also missing classes. She made every Saturday a holiday throughout the month (we used to have only 2 Saturday holidays at other campuses), so if there was anything related to clubs, it was organized on Saturdays, which was great. But she was quite strict against lecturers, so the lecturers made a written complaint with their signatures and complained to higher management, and then she was removed.

The Third Year:

We got a new principal who is a true patriot of our country. Bro is really obsessed with the march past. He literally used to force students to attend the march past, started assigning grace marks for those who attended, and also started calling parents to complain about those who were not attending.

One day, there were boiled eggs served at dinner, and everyone had their meal. The next day, nearly 50+ students who had consumed the eggs got food poisoning. Because of that issue, we had a meeting with the campus DIRECTOR (the Legend)—and instead of acknowledging the issue, he said that the 50 students got food poisoning because of outside food. The irony is that outside food was not allowed in college until that very day (we had even tried many times and in many ways, including keeping food in the car bonnet, but always failed). So the intelligent Legend DIRECTOR made the decision to no longer allow outside food from that day—because if something like this happened again, he could push the blame on outside food with 100% confidence—and made the students go silent on the issue.

Spoiler alert: The Principal has now become ASSOCIATE DEAN of Amrita Amaravathi.

The Fourth Year:

We had come a very long way. It was our final year. All final year students will realize one thing—the CIR (Corporate & Industrial Relations) department is the most important department in your college career. It basically works like a placement cell that brings companies. Due to centralized placement (most companies conduct their interviews, tests, etc. from the CBE campus), we used to travel to the CBE campus every time, which was nearly a 16-hour journey with very limited transportation. Most of the time, they used to inform us just the day before the interview, giving us only 1–2 hours to book buses and travel to Coimbatore. Not only CBE, but some companies also arranged their interviews at the Bangalore campus, Chennai campus, and Amritapuri campus, but not a single one at Amaravathi. So basically, every time there was any company process, we had to be ready with money, luggage in our hands, and most importantly, luck to get tickets. If we did not attend any interview process, they would block us for 1–2 weeks on the placement portal (the portal to apply for jobs).

Food:

Basically, the food at Amaravathi — especially at night — was the WORST. I have had food at Bangalore, CBE (no salt or chilli powder), and the agricultural campus—all of them were good compared to Amaravathi, especially the dinner food.

We had made a lot of complaints about the food right from the start, but nothing ever changed. The only time it actually made a difference was when the lady principal was there—she introduced a menu system where students could recommend food items through voting, and it was presented to the mess. For a few days they actually followed it. But after she left, everything went back to normal again.

,

Lecturers (MOST IMPORTANT):

We used to have the best lecturers in our first and second semesters — ones who had good and updated knowledge regarding their respective subjects. But after we came to Amaravathi, the good old ones slowly started to leave, and then came the new ones who used to teach different subjects every semester.

There was a lady lecturer who used to learn from NPTEL about the course subject and then teach us. And there was a lecturer called Rajasekhar—I have a great experience with him. He used to teach us one subject, and after the completion of the midterm exams, he gave us our midterm papers to check for any corrections. I went to him and told him I needed some extra marks because everything I had written was 100% related to the question he had asked. What he told me was that he had just given us xerox copies of PDF notes to study from, so we had to write everything exactly from those same PDFs — if not, he would decrease marks. Is B.Tech a joke to him? Aren't we going to learn the subject, or are we just going to memorize content?

Important: Throughout college, 90% of lecturers used to make us study PDFs. It may sound easy because it was easy to prepare for exams and score good marks. But we lacked a lot of actual concepts. And when some lecturers started telling us to prepare from textbooks, we literally freaked out — because we had never studied from textbooks; we were only habituated to PDFs. Everything had finished before we even realized it.

Events:

We shouldn't talk about this, because there is nothing to speak about. When we were at CBE for our 1st year, we used to have a lot of events like Anokha and many more. But after coming to the Amaravati campus, we only had things like Shivaratri and nothing much beyond that—they didn't even arrange a freshers' party for the incoming juniors. And we have SRM and VIT around us, which always had events going on, which honestly made us jealous. I know that college is not only about events, and I know that Amrita is strict and disciplined compared to SRM and VIT. But my concern is — why can't we have events even once a year, like the CBE or other campuses? Because at the end of the day, memories are the ones that remain with us till the end of our lives. And I can say that Amrita Amaravathi has ruined my college life.

This director also cancelled inter-campus tournaments and did not allow students to go to other colleges (e.g., IITs) for sports tournaments, because he felt it might cost money. What a pathetic decision.

Student Affairs:

This one is a shithole. They are just a name for student affairs. They just convey information from the administration to the students, and not the problems of the students to the administration. And they always think they are the ones in charge of everything, as nothing can happen without them. Many students worked together in the 2nd year Shivaratri program and did great work without even this council. I don't want to talk about this anymore.

Final Verdict:

My conclusion: Try to avoid Amrita Amaravathi as far as possible. Try to choose other campuses if you really want to join Amrita.

Bsc degrees

have the people who applied for Bsc degrees started getting their interview calls? I talked to a person who applied for BCA and they have already started their admissions.
