I spend way too much time on Whatnot and it’s very clear to me that a lot of the retailer exclusives of issues 18-20 are sitting unsold.
I think Megacon will be looked back on as the start of the turning point. Anything but Quintana and a few signed/remarqued books seems to sit.
Prices are already flattening. John Giang (whose work I love and who seems like an A+ guy) is selling his a artist exclusive Superman/Spiderman cover — which is gorgeous IMO — with a blanket 5% discount for all variations on his site. I’d bet the shops he went in on those with told him they’d all sell out in a day.
Just my observations and I think it’s a positive development overall if it’s happening.
Signed sets sold out but unsigned still available if anyone is interested. Just got an unsigned set myself, salty I missed the signed copies.
I normally hate foil covers…like really hate them, but I just want to say that whoever’s idea this was needs a raise. This book is simply gorgeous. I’m probably just going to sell the color copy because it pales in comparison to this one.
Other than for personal preference for beautiful cover art itself, is there a potential investment value for getting variant covers? Just asking because of all the crazy number of variant covers that are coming out for marked up prices. I personally started to read Absolute Batman for the story, but unless it's available in my LCBS, I've been hesitant on paying high prices.
saw a guy on insta make a pseudo-omnibus of Absolute Barman using the BCW stor-folios and I followed suit. each one stores about 14-15 loose issues and about 10 if they’re boarded. i opted for loose, which neatly all of them end a major arc at about issue 14. After grabbing and modifying all assets (the front cover are all the wes craig variants) each one is then printed from my local print shop on 60lb paper.
if you’re looking to do it yourself i recommend using a software like procreate and making each asset a separate file/canvas to the appropriate size (front cover [7.5x10.25], back spine, and front spine [both are 1.25x10.25]) before exporting them and combining it on a single 11x17 canvas (you could probably go smaller, i’m just lazy and spacing it out with 1/3 going unused doesn’t bother me)
