Just finished the 2026 AP Chinese exam? Here is why 2027 will be a different beast. 🚨

If you just walked out of the 2026 exam thinking you can just "wing it" next year, think again. I’ve been teaching AP Chinese for 11+ years, and the 2027 redesign is officially moving from "testing your Chinese" to "testing your brain."
The "Brutal" Reality of 2027:
The 35% Kill Zone: Forget the old speaking prompts. The new Project Presentation is now 35% of your score. You need a 3-minute academic lecture + a written PPR (Project Plan and Reflection).
The "Cold" 4-Question Ambush: After your presentation, you get 4 follow-up questions with zero prep time. If you rely on memorized templates, you will freeze. This is designed to catch "home-fluency" speakers who lack academic logic.
The Bluebook Era: No more CDs or old-school recorders. It’s 100% digital. 55 MCQs in 65 minutes means your digital reading and typing speed will make or break your score.
Email & Story are "In": These are now official tasks (7.5% each). You need professional-grade writing, not just texting slang.
Bottom Line: 2026 was the last year of the "easy" format. 2027 requires a university-level mindset.

pls give an honest grade of my paper, 1-5

for context, i researched how the characteristics of tiktok videos (such as video length, formatting, and pacing) differed in retaining one’s attention and ultimately the video’s engagement metrics (such as likes, views, comments, etc)! if you have any questions whatsoever, don’t hesitate to ask :)

Althought I really liked this class this year and my topic it really felt like a burden with everything else going on in my life. Now that I have finally turned in that research paper it feels like a weight has been lifted right off of my shoulders!

My teacher decided to do the AI check the last day that we have to submit the paper, and he showed me that my paper came back as 35% AI. Most of the sections that were flagged used transitions such as therefore, furthermore, or yet, which I find ridiculous because you can’t flag something as AI if it is common in research papers. The other sections that came back AI are where I said the percentages that I found in my correlational studies. I am kind of stressing about this since my teacher said I should have less than 20%, but I have the data/research that I have done all year along with the sources that I used in my Literature Review (around 17 sources). I just feel that this turnitin site is a way to penalize the students who actually put in the work of researching and used well-structured writing.

Title.

My teacher throughout the year, while he knows what he’s talking about and (sort of) how to help, had no issue with my writing and never said anything about it at all (my writing isn’t complex. It’s very straightforward and easy to understand). The entire year we have always been ahead of everyone else bc of his moderate-fast pace on each checkpoint. I’ve always scored pretty well on every checkpoint (he graded each one as if it was submitted to college board and I’d score the highest in the class).

While me and my classmates were working on our data crunching and results and discussion section, I fell very behind. I did work…but at a very slow pace (procrastinated bc it was a lot of work and made no sense. If I did something and thought I did it right, I later found out I did it wrong). My teacher literally did not help us during this process, let alone guide us. Refused to even show us how to do a t-test. He claimed “he would be doing the work for us” as if literally showing us how to do it once is doing our whole project??? So when it came time to submit our first draft for the results and discussion I didn’t really have much bc I didn’t understand how tf I was supposed to just interpret all of these numbers. He ends up emailing my parents including me on it (this is all during feb keep in mind) saying that I’m “falling behind” (we’re on the results and discussion in feb… we don’t submit until end of April) and that I need to try and get it done asap or else if the thing gets written within a span of a couple of weeks ai wrote it??

First of all, I’m very much capable of writing a section in a couple of weeks, let alone a day. But what I think is funny is that he thinks it’s impossible to write a section in a couple of weeks, and if so it’s automatically ai?? That doesn’t make any sense.

Whatever, I reply saying how I’ll try and get it done but I just have work on the weekend so it’ll be hard (I didn’t get it done that weekend) but I can attach what I have done so he can see my progress and how I’ve actually been working on it gradually. Whatever. Time goes by and I work on the section and conclusion up until March when we have our first final paper draft due. I had like a paragraph left to write in my results and discussion but I submitted for the sake that he sees I’m literally basically done and that I’ve made a lot of progress (including revising my entire paper and making minor tweaks). I ended up getting a 60 for it being incomplete. Whatever, at least he can see I’ve been working on it for a month and have made significant progress. A week later we have our second final paper draft due and I turn it in with everything done (including more revisions from the intro-conclusion). Keep in mind all the revision on the intro-methods is lit just simplifying language, basically making it easier for the reader to understand (literally just deleting 3 words that can be replaced with one).

This dude accuses me of ai 3 weeks before submitting saying that the ENTIRE thing is now ai? (he read all of my paper progress throughout the entire yr and had no issues before). He says how it was “impossible” for me to write what I wrote in a month (A 4-5 PAGE RESULTS & DISCUSSION SECTION AND A CONCLUSION THAT IS A PARAGRAPH IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A PERSON TO WRITE IN A MONTH??? MF I literally only analyzed 3 things: two t-tests and a correlational test??). So I started getting upset bc he’s switching up saying the entire thing is ai (when he had no suspicion all yr).

When I’m asking questions he’s just very broad and says “Based on this reaction I think you used ai” all with an attitude mind you. I WAS FUCKING BALLING MY EYES OUT BC HE IS ABT TO RUIN MY ACADEMIC CAREER WITH A FUCKING FALSE ACCUSATION HELLUR? How else am I supposed to react?

I literally said I can show you my edit history and he immediately says “What’s that going to prove?” closing his eyes, shrugging one shoulder, having a little smirk all with an attitude. I legit asked if he needed me to explain anything, like if he had any confusion in the paper, wtv that I can clear it up bc I’m lost as it why it’s ALL suddenly “ai”. He just doesn’t cooperate the entire time. So I asked “well then how can I prove I didn’t use ai?” And he says I couldn’t and how he put it into ai detectors and the showed up ai. Mind you he’s using ai to try to see if I used ai?? Arguing with this dude is literally like arguing with a fucking wall. I literally walked back into the classroom with him after a unproductive convo with him where he didn’t even listen to me. All my classmates see me balling my eyes out, literally embarrassing me in front of everyone. So that night I email him all of my document from the beginning of the yr where he can see ALL edit history, and I decided to be a little petty showing him an experimental study someone conducted suggesting how ai detection sites are unreliable, giving him the link and all.

We end up talking two days later and he basically ignored all of my evidence. He said there was nothing I could do and that he couldn’t attest I didn’t use ai. I asked if I could submit and do the presentation but he just doesn’t attest and he says he wouldn’t recommend it bc it would be this whole hassle with college board. So I end up not submitting the paper or doing the presentation and just sat in class doing hw while my classmates both presented in front of me and submitted their papers in the span of two weeks of the submission date.

I just saw someone’s post saying how their teacher wasn’t attesting for them but everyone in the comments is saying it’s fine and as long as the grader doesn’t have any suspicion then it’s fine.

I’m genuinely pissed bc I went through two yrs of capstone just to not be able to finish bc of a false accusation when I had evidence to back me up? And just finding out I could’ve actually submitted and done everything else?? I literally had to force myself to suck it up after a week of battling with him that got me no where. Even people that read it said it didn’t seem ai at all.

It’s def too late but is there anything I could do?

This guy got me rejected from NHS from the accusation btw bc he reported me to the school. Wouldn’t doubt it showing up on my transcript too.

*sorry for any spelling or grammar issues. I’m writing this all at 4 am 😭*

Hi,

AP Research student here.
Obviously we are past the deadline and there is nothing I could possibly change or fix about my paper now, but my paper was flagged at a whopping 92% AI, even though I wrote the entire thing myself. I have multiple Google Docs documenting my process, as well as my very first drafting process which was done in a notebook.

My teacher and I talked, and he attested that the work is mine. That made me feel better, however, I am concerned that something still may pop up later on. I wrote it in a very direct academic tone and was extremely repetitive because I like to reiterate, and I think that is why I was flagged

That being said, my question is, if my teacher attested for me and my work is submitted, is college board going to further investigate me and make me submit proof that it is my work? I am totally willing to do so if that is the case, but I am just mentally preparing myself. This ai detector bullshit is exhausting.

my word count is around 7000 right now, i don't know the word count without all my quotes and tables but i know it's around 6000. if i say my paper is in the 4000-5000 range, will readers actually check that it's over? i don't have enough time to trim it down

Okay so i just finished my paper cause im a heavyyyy procrasinastor with adhd and executive dysfunction (trust me ive tried to fix this issue ik its bad). I managed to turn it in but its lowk so BAD. regardless im worried that ill end up being accused of ai. I wrote everything myself but i did get my sources from chatgpt (which i did end up checking to see if theyre real and what not but i left the summarizes mostly up to gpt and from google bc i was doing it pretty late). Plus, even though I did write everything myself based on what I found i do have a tendency to do that whole "its not this.. its that" format since to me it felt pretty sophisticated before ai started to use it.

ANYWAY long story short because i did my work pretty late i worry that im not gonna have the "drafts" to send them if they ask to see my previous work and that my writing style was so all over the place yet good in some parts + my writing kinda mimics the ai pattern???. SO what are the chances i get accused of using ai and what could I do?? ultimately the paper is in an im being paranoid but idk isnt using gpt for sources okay as long as i do the work?? SORRY IM PARANOID IDEK IF THIS MAKES SENSE

For any AP research graders, I read through the ai policy and it says it's an ethical use of ai to ask ai to find sources as long as you actually read through and review them. I sort of did that, there was a stat quoted from a different article I read and I needed to find the actual statistic so I asked AI what the source was and in my citation is says 'retrieved from chatgpt' at the end or something like that. Will I get flagged or questioned, because it was technically an ethical use of ai but the chatgpt tag at the end is really stressing me out. Also, this wasn't a major source in my intro/lit review it was more of a stat to support a claim and I did read through it to make sure it was credible and accurate and all that. Please help!

My teacher just told me my paper came back 60% AI even though I spent a long time writing it. Will i get flagged and will College Board ask me for my drafts? The parts that got flagged are really stupid, mainly my captions and me stating my results

I know that the academic paper is 75% of the Ap score and is graded 1-5, with the POD being 25% and the POD being scored through 24 points. My question is, can you still get a 5 on the AP whilst only getting a 4 on the academic paper? Also, if one paper grades a paper a 4 and another a 5, does it count as 4.5? Thank you
