OCR A Biology: A* Stretch & Challenge Questions Practice

For OCR Biology students working towards an A*, one of the main limitations in preparing for securing that grade is the quantity of 'challenging' questions which are available to practice.

Referred to by the exam board as 'stretch and challenge', these are not just 'AO3' questions (which focus on examining evidence, experimental design, and analysing data patterns), they are new contexts which require the application of knowledge to an unfamiliar context to interpret what the underlying (and relevant) biology is.

If you have been looking for this kind of practice, then you can get a bank of questions for modules 2 and 3 - including detailed mark schemes and model answers - here.

There is a free example set on the information page you can have a go at.

Modules 2 and 3 - which underpin much of the foundational biological content encountered throughout the A level, and they have proven useful to those students of mine diligent enough to make use of them.

Any questions, let me know :)

How do you prepare and not forget all the content? Every time I revise biology and go over some previous topics, I find that I have forgotten most despite going over it multiple times.

I’m running out of time on going over the same topics before my A levels. I’m also a retake student since last year when I tried doing my A levels, I completely forgot everything

hey can please the a2 level otterbiotutor notes with me

I have my exams in 2 weeks and i would say i have a good idea of all the chapters from 13-19, but i really don't have any concrete notes to follow. I love biology but since i don't have notes it takes me so much time and i considered watching otterbio and writing notes by myself. but due to my adhd i really could never watch more than a video and write notes simultaneosly. it would really be helpful if someone shared their notes with me from otterbio.

Struggling with basic question

Would I get one mark as I mention aligned not bind - also when does rna nucleotides bind ??in markschemes it usually says “rna nucleotides align against complementary dna bases “ .I’ve never seen “bind” , there’s no hydrogen bonding between the bases of dna and mRNA so how could they bind, unless I’ve learnt it wrong

Thank you for any help !

OCR A A level bio tips

Does anyone have tips to get an A* for ocr a? I've seen lots of YouTube videos where they all say the same thing (to do as many past papers as you can). And while I agree, I was wondering since I'm having difficulties with content, should I just move on to papers now and come back to content after identifying mistakes?

My grade tends to fluctuate a lot. No idea why but it's really inconsistent so not helpful. I got a B in my first mock in Year 12, then an A. Year 13 I got an B again on an AS level paper then got a C in another mock and now an A*. Same type of revision done, same amount of time. Nothing different so I have no idea why.

Also any other tips will be greatly appreciated!

Can I be removed from exams for bad attendance?

I saw another post on here recently where someone’s school threatened to remove them from exams bc of poor attendance.

I have around 2 weeks left of school. My attendance is 85%. (87% if you include lates), I go to grammar school. My attendance was bad ( 80%) during year 11 and year 12 bc my immune system got very weak, still have no idea why, ive been to my gp and private healthcare but I haven’t got any formal reason, but back then my school didn’t really care about attendance too much, the most I got was an email. However, this year apparently they are taking it more seriously. I’ve mainly been missing lessons recently, and that is bc we have covered all the content for maths. I only miss maths lessons , anytime I have bio or chem I go into school. I have an offer for A* A A and I received March mock grades of DDE. BUT that was only bc I hadn’t revised all the content, now after revising all the content I have been consistently at high Bs in my subjects past papers for a week now. I have one month to go from Bs to A* A A. And skipping 2 days of school a week is rlly helping me. If I skip in total 4 days of school across the next 11 school days can I be removed from my a level exams? I do edexcel maths, OCR bio and chem. and my first exam is June 2nd.

I'm going to fail

Help! Im in year 12, taking 4 subjects- biology, chemistry, psychology, and art. I think im going to fail both biology and chemistry. I'm autistic and get autistic burnout like crazy, so I miss a lot of school, and so I miss lots of tests and lessons. That means they don't have a lot of data on how I'm doing in my subjects- which means they find my predicted grades and stuff super difficult to make. School is supporting me the best they can.

Anyway, now onto the failing part.

I have my end of year mocks that are used to predict my grades and move me onto year 13 on Monday- ending on Friday. I've been revising and doing exam questions but nothing is getting into my head. I'm just so stuck. I can't remember anything. And the exam questions are just so difficult and I can't wrap my head around what they're asking for a lot of the time. I have no idea what to do. I haven't even started on chemistry revision- which is my last exam on Friday afternoon. Don't even talk about psychology either omg, I'm doing well in that but I haven't touched it either. I don't know what to do I think I'm going to fail both of them- but then what- because they won't let me take 2 a levels. They did say I'll have the chance to retake my mocks in may or June if I fail, but I just don't think I'll even be able to do well then either. And I can't choose between biology and chemistry, so what will I do?!

Someone please help me I'm so stuck and I'm finding it all really difficult and I'm so lost.

Does anyone know how to answer graph questions and those evaluations questions?

For those 6 mark evaluation paragraphs where they give you a Fig, how do you make sure to score most marks. I always get 1 or 2 out of 6 marks. What key words or are there any tips on how to tackle them?

I also struggle simple graph questions. I do OCR A
