i just got a new nintendo 3ds xl from ebay, and i was wondering why my top screen is brighter/yellower than my bottom screen. turns out i have a bottom ips and tn top screen and the difference between the two is actually driving me nuts 🙃 i’ve tried adjusting the brightness on the top screen in luma but now i’m just wondering if i should go through the extra trouble of buying a ips screen replacement, or get a refund and buy a new one entirely? or if anyone has any settings to make the screens match up, it would be so appreciated! side note, i don’t necessarily care for ips and honestly i would’ve rather gotten a dual tn 3ds and adjusted the screen myself lol

So I bought a New SNES 3DS XL during COVID in great condition and it helped me a lot during that tough time. When I was researching, I learned about the whole IPS vs TN screen topic, and at first I thought maybe it matters but I would read about how the difference is negligible, that no one looks at the screen at weird angles and things like that. So I stuck with choosing a SNES edition that didn't have IPS screens.

Fast forward to today, I've started to play 3DS again and went to my local game shop. They had a CIB New Pokemon Sun/Moon 3DS XL for $670 and the console was in decent condition. When I turned the device on, I was immediately thrown by how great the screen was. Like it seemed much better than my 3DS. Then I remembered the IPS vs TN screen topic, and I googled how to tell if it's IPS and did the whole look at the notification from the side, and the screen was IPS.

Now I'm annoyed because I miss the ignorance lol. Now I'm looking at eBay/Gamesale/Mercari trying to find a N3DSXL in a special edition I like (mainly Fire Emblem one atm) and with IPS screens and I never thought I'd be that guy who would have to ask/care about this ughh. And tbh I was tempted to buy the console but I don't really care about CIB just about the condition so feel like could get a better deal. And now considering even selling the N3DS XL I have but man it was such a clutch device during COVID. Anyways, idk why I'm posting this tbh, but bruh I always thought I was unobservant and so I was actually shocked that turning it on for the first time, without knowing it was IPS, I could immediately tell it was better, and to me, a decent amount better.

I've been looking for a Dual IPS New 3DS XL in my preferred color for months and finally found one in a condition that was satisfying enough for me. It has minor scratches and marks (paint peeling slightly on the edges) that are barely visible.

I ended up paying $460 (USD) out of fear I might lose it, and I assume that's over the average selling price. I wonder if I made a huge mistake paying that much or if it's still okay?
