Visited my general practitioner yesterday and she suggested I go on 2.5mg Zepbound to lose a little weight. Honestly, I dont have too much to lose - I'm 53yo, 5'5" and about 160#. She had me do a body scan though and my body fat is at 30% and she wants to get it under 25%. I wouldn't mind dropping 10-15#. My scale at home says my body fat much lower at 22.7%, but I trust the fancy InBody scan she did to be more accurate. Both scales show visceral fat at 9, so no problem there.

I had said I likely want to wait a bit (see below for why) but she ran it through to see if my insurance would cover it (they did) and this morning I got a call that it was ready at my pharmacy.

I had open heart surgery about 5wks ago and am on the blood thinner Warfarin. I asked the pharmacist and she checked and said it will indeed impact Warfarin absorption, so I'm going to wait until Friday when I have my weekly check-in with the pharmacist who is checking my INR levels. Thankfully, my heart surgery was just to repair a valve, not replace, so I will hopefully only be taking blood thinners for the next 2mos, as opposed to being on them for life if I had gotten a mechanical valve inserted.

Honestly, losing the weight sounds good to me, but I'm really hoping it curbs my drinking, as my biggest vice is drinking more red wine than I should. That's really the main reason I'm going to give it a try.

Lastly... I'm very torn on telling my wife that I'm going to try this. I wont go into much detail to respect her privacy, but she is overweight, but when folks have suggested GLP-1's to her it hasn't gone over well at all. But she also doesn't like me drinking, so I figure if it helps me kick that habit she'll be more sympathetic.
