Is it fair to say that Colby Covington is an example as to what happens when a fighter spends his prime on the sidelines?

Colby was a good fighter but also a good example as to why a fighter should never waste his prime on the shelf bargaining with said matchmakers. He had a habit of taking long layoffs after the Dos Anjos fight, a year to fight Lawler, 8 months to fight Woodley, a year to rematch Usman, nearly 2 years to challenge Leon Edwards.

Dana White said it best in the post interview of UFC 296, "this sport doesnt wait for anyone. Waiting is never a good idea".

But I mean, Paulo Costa looked good in his last fight. 35 and still dangerous despite repeated layoffs

What do you guys think?
