What's the best strategy if you're living in a city/country where music isn't really happening but you're connected to people via the internet?
I'm a music producer, songwriter, video creator, general creative in these industries... Yet most of my income comes from music royalties, that I had for producing for artists getting 50% splits then they blew up!
Yet they stopped making music a long time ago so I'm living off these old royalties, beat leases and any random stuff that comes my way. I probably make around 1500USD per month.
I'm from the UK but currently live on a small coastal beach town in Central America. This income goes further for me here than it would in UK of course. I really love the life I'm living right now, nature, people, health etc. In the UK I was way more miserable despite trying to tick these boxes. So I say all that to say ideally I don't move back for music.
Good thing about being here is I'm on EST time zone and connected to people online. I could fly to New York for example. Also I could fly to Los Angeles. These are things I plan to do once I build more of a "brand" online and it would make sense. Ideally I have multiple things lined up.
Also this gives me time to focus on getting better at piano, guitar, mixing, vocal comping. I'm doing all of these right now. It also gives me time to focus on being more human which I've lost trying to grind away. To connect with humans, socialise, build a life. I think it's necessary for me to grow all this so when the opportunity comes I can make the most of it. Instead of just being hidden behind a screen anonymous you know.
My question is, how would you build if you were in a city/country that doesn't favour your music career?
