this is her third session. she does have a background in paw targeting which made the training process a little easier.

yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks. this is our second session with the scratchboard, although he does have a background in paw targeting and training in general.

i do dog sports with my three current rescue dogs, but i've been mulling over my next one being a well-bred purebred dog.

i met with an australian cattle dog breeder (or rather, former breeder) yesterday who is involved with the breed club. she does all the appropriate health testing (incl. OFAs) and her breeding stock has championship titles in both conformation and herding. most of her puppies have gone to working homes on cattle farms.

i'm a little bummed she's no longer breeding, but i'm glad she'll be able to put me in touch with somebody who is a few years from now when i'm ready for my next dog. she was informative, friendly, and it was just all-around a good experience. she seemed genuinely surprised by the questions i was asking about her health testing and breeding program, since apparently a lot of folks just want a cool dog, haha.

lots of folks come to this sub looking for a good breeder, and i feel like i was very, very lucky to find a good one! i even got to meet one of her puppies she took back from a previous owner because it didn't work out and she decided to keep him rather than find another new home for him.
