PPIs not even helping anymore…

On a really bland diet, avoiding triggers, on 40mg pantoprazole and while the PPI helped me be able to at least eat and drink water, I haven’t noticed any further improvement. In fact I often feel like I’m regressing again. Been on it for 3 weeks. I have gastritis and esophagitis from my hiatal hernia (at least I think the hernia is the root cause).

No idea where to go from here. I use gaviscon, tums, and I have a Pepcid tolerance now so feels like I’m straight out of luck.

Been suffering for 4 months total, can’t go out to eat, mental health is in the toilet, and ugh…sorry just need to vent.

Increase PPI dose or switch PPI - which first?

I was on omeprazole in February and March doing pretty good. Got pregnant, and primary care doc told me to stop cold turkey. In those 2 weeks the acid came back HARD. OB then put me on pantoprazole which I’ve been on for 16 days but feels like it’s not working that well - i ate one trigger by accident and it was like I wasn’t even on medication.

OB says for me to go from 40 to 80mg but that seems - dramatic? Should I try a different ppi?

How does a hiatal hernia lead to gastritis?

Can someone explain this? Is it because the stomach is pushed up causing irritation to the stomach lining? Or is it the reflux going back and forth that causes irritation?

I have hiatal hernia and gastritis.
