I get that the first boss in a soulslike is supposed to be unwinnable, but I can't even get past the first enemy in the courtyard. I'm not new to soulslikes but this is ridiculous.

I didn't realize that following the Umbral ending to completion would lock me out of using the final boss remembrance. I reeeeaaally don't want to go through that again. Can someone help me out?
